Sydney POV

They say that the calmest waters birth the most tretarous storms. We live life blindly and never seem to realize when our worlds will be flipped on their axis and everything changes.

But like every good fantasy, it started with passion. I had passion for dancing but not in the manner I was doing it.

I didn’t like being touched when dancing, it was something I detested.

The music washed through me as I kept swinging my body to the beat of it. I ran my hand over my sides feeling every dip and curve as I allowed myself to get lost in the rhythm.

I chose one of the friendly faces in the audience and locked my eyes with him. I did it every night to have someone to focus my attention on.

He was a fine specimen, I could see from the dimmed light that he had brown hair with green eyes, and with the intensity of his gaze I had to admit I felt a warmth come over my body.

He was looking at me like he couldn’t keep his eyes off me.

“Look here, pretty lady,” I heard Jim, a regular voice I hated, say and I cursed myself internally. Everyone knew he was a pervert.

I hated the sound of his voice, he was always here, it made me angry but I couldn’t do anything but listen to voices that I had to grow accustomed to.

“I was blown away by your performance,” The manager said to me immediately after I left the stage.

I was tired too to have any chit chat.

I could have conversations with him because he was cool and he had been friendly to her since I started dancing here.

“Thanks, Sir” I would have said his name but I didn’t think we had gotten to the stage where we are on a firstname basis.

“Somebody here wants to meet you,” He said and left me standing there.

I didn’t want to see anybody, just wanted my pay so I could go home and start looking for offers.

“Can I sit with you” The brownhaired man from earlier was here talking to me.

I didn’t want to talk to him or was he here because I had been looking at him throughout the performance.

“I was already leaving, look for somewhere to sit” I didn’t like encouraging the customers that were in the club.

I wasn’t going to be here forever, there was no need to make acquaintances with them.

“I asked your manager if it was okay to talk to you about spending the night with me” He was looking at me.

He was blunt and I like that in a man but I wasn’t feeling him and my feet hurt.

I needed to be home if I would be able to dance tomorrow.

“I am not the only stripper here, go away and get you another person that would want to spend the night with you” I wasn’t interested in spending the night with anyone but just myself.

He didn’t look like she was going to win the battle of chasing him away.

“You need to leave me alone Mister” I didn’t want to be attached to anybody.

I was still here because I needed my money.

“Can I stay here with you till you want to leave?” he asked politely

I didn’t have anything to lose, he wanted to stay here, and I didn’t have any issues with that.

I couldn’t look at him because I might want to look at his handsome face but I wasn’t ready to make him aware of that.

“What do you want to do while waiting,” he asked.

I looked at him, I had this mischievous idea that I had always wanted to share with a stranger, and he was giving me an open invitation to do what I wanted to do.

I would gladly put the idea into the plan.

“I would like to play a game, A game that would involve you and drinking a lot of drink, I hope you can hold your liquor well,” I asked looking at him with an encouraging smile on my face.

I wasn’t that nice but I would be if he agreed to do this with me.

He looked at me like he might be interested in what I was saying but he was still unsure of how the game was going to be looking like.

“I can hold my liquor, Thank you very much,” he said after the thoughts I could see on his face dispelled.

Going home was looking like a faraway plan now because of how he kept on drinking because he chose not to answer the question.

I could do this for more hours.

“Sorry to interrupt, this is your pay for the night,” The manager told me, I was concentrating on him that I didn’t know the stage performances for the night were over.

This was my cue to go home, there was a part of me that wanted to rush home immediately so I could keep sending emails to companies I saw in the newspaper.

But I wanted to be here because he might look like an angel but I wanted to just be seen with a man who I wouldn’t be ordinarily seen with.

I was just enjoying his laughter and how his eyes twitched when he takes another shot, I didn’t want him taking tequila but he decided that he could hold his liquor, who was I to object to what he wanted.

He was standing up.

I looked at him, he was struggling, it looked like he was about to fall off his chair, I couldn’t help myself when I started laughing.

“I told you could hold your liquor”

“I didn’t know you were going to ask me to keep pumping it”

We both started laughing and I reached out to hold him and help him up.

And in that moment as I stared into his eyes I saw a spark, one that told me that the night had just begun and it was one I would definitely not forget.

Sydney POV

“I need to go,” He said still trying to get hold of himself.

I couldn’t allow him to go anywhere without my help, he might be all macho about not needing help but from the look of it, I had to take him to where he was going.

It was 2 am, and if anything were to happen to him, it would be her fault because she kept on asking him questions that he would be comfortable answering.

“I am so sorry I allowed this go too far,” I told him

I might have had a lot of fun playing the game but I didn’t think of the repercussions.

“I would take you anywhere you would be willing to go,” I told him.

He looked at me and started laughing, which only worried me more as I stared at his unfocused eyes.

“Then take me to my hotel room, That's where I want to be now,” He said and allowed himself to relax on my arms

“My GPS will give you the directions to the hotel,” He said and relaxed in the car.

I had never been in this type of car before but I could drive because my father made sure that I learned it as a basic skill growing up.

“What direction should we go” “Hey” I touched him gently

He pointed at a door down the hall and I led him in that direction, noticing that he seemed to be leaning on me more and more the further we walked. We got to the door and I looked at him expectantly. “Keycard?”

“In my front pocket.” He gave her an interesting look. “Don’t suppose I could convince you to reach in and get it for me?”

Good lord, was he flirting with me?? The man must have been truly plastered. “That’s very sweet,” I told him. “But get your card.” “Can’t blame a man for trying,” he murmured.

“You’re drunk,” I told him. “You wouldn’t hit on me sober.”

I didn’t know why I said that but that was what I knew

“Just because I’m drunk doesn’t mean I don’t have taste,” he told her. But he fished his keycard out of one pocket, winked at me, and then slid it across the scanner.

The door chimed open and he pulled his arm off my shoulders, leaving me feeling oddly bereft. “Want to come in for a moment?”

I hesitated. going into a strange man’s hotel room at three in the morning? Probably a bad idea. “I really shouldn’t.”

“Just for a bit? I could use the company.”

I waited on his doorstep a moment longer. I wasn’t thrilled about heading into the dark, late at night by my lonesome, and I had always wanted to see a penthouse. And he looked harmless. he wouldn’t attack me. . . no matter how much I might wish it. “Just for a minute,” I cautioned him. “And then I should get going.”

“You want a drink?” he asked, stepping into the suite. “I’m sure I have a minibar around here somewhere.” he looked around the penthouse like he didn’t know where things were around here.

I followed him in, closing the door, I tried not to stare at his hotel room.

The beige carpet was thick underneath my shoes and the furniture was shiny and new. Art—real art, not ugly hotel prints hung on the walls, illuminated by their spotlights. A pair of sliding doors led off to another “wing” of his suite, and as I stepped into the living room, I chuckled. “Is that a piano?”

“A baby grand for all of your hotel needs,” he agreed, approaching with two small bottles of alcohol in hand. “I have never gotten to a hotel room and thought, damn it, where is a piano when you need one, but someone does.” I laughed again and refused the drink he offered me,” No thanks.”

“You’re not driving back,” he cajoled. “I insist on a cab this late. And I’d be a sad sack if I was a lonely drunk. With you here, I’m not quite so lonely.”

He kept on blabbing but I was interested in the suites, it was very lovely.

I couldn’t help myself but keep staring at the paintings on the wall.

His words warmed me a bit, and I took the tiny bottle of Patron from him, twisting the tiny cap off. He did the same and held his bottle out to me in a toast. “Bottoms up,” I told him, and then sipped it. The alcohol had a delicious burn to it. I continued to sip it, wandering around the room. “How much does a place like this cost a night?”

I asked because I was always curious about things that I couldn’t understand.

“You don’t want to know,” he told her. “I’m not even sure I know. An assistant handled it for me.”

I headed through the living room—his freaking hotel room was a mess of rooms—and peered out to the balcony. “Oh, wow. This is huge.”

“Shall we go out?” He opened the door and asked. I didn't know what it was about this man but there was just something about him that brought me a sense of peace. And I didn't want it to go away.

Sydney POV

Even though I was a bit tired and I knew He should head to bed, I went out on the balcony anyhow, because when was I going to ever do this again?

I didn’t have the opportunity to always be in places like this.

The balcony had marble tile, and elegantly maintained potted plants dotted along the railing, interspersed with heavy wooden furniture. The city looked vast from here, and she stared at the view in awe. “This is beautiful .”

“Isn’t it?” He smiled out at the buildings, his brown hair ruffling in the night breeze. He moved to stand beside me, his presence warm. “I have to admit I asked for this room simply because of the balcony.”

“I don’t blame you. This place looks big enough for a party.”

“Kind of sad that it’s just me in the room .” His tone was melancholy, and her heart twinged again.

I lifted the tiny bottle of Patron back to my lips and drained the entire thing in one fell swoop, my head began to buzz.

He gazed out at the night sky for a moment before turning back to look at me.

“None of this was your fault.”

I was the one that made him drink so much because of the dare, now he couldn’t say anything without her feeling bad that she made him this way.

I knew he was being modest, but I still told him, and crossed my arms under my breasts, tucking them close to stay warm. My thin shirt wasn’t exactly made for evenings outside.

I had to change because I couldn’t be outside in my stripper cloth, it was part of my life that was shaded from the outside world and I was going to keep it that way.

My hair was blowing into my face, and I impatiently pushed it aside, thinking. What could I possibly say to him that wouldn’t sound stupid? Did I notice you all night? Yes but he didn't need to know that.

“It’s funny,” He said, stepping closer to me. His hair blew in the breeze and for a moment, he looked like a fallen angel in the shadows. “Tonight, when I saw you dancing, I almost called my assistant to tell him how happy I was that he got me the ticket to be there,” He said

He was still looking at me like he wanted to say more than this, I was intrigued to know what was going on in his mind but I didn’t want to rush him.

My brows drew together. Huh? “I think you’re very drunk” He didn’t want to say anything but I knew he had many things to say.

Maybe this was going to encourage him.

“I’m drunk,” he agreed. “Because I’d never say this otherwise. But you’re utterly, insanely sexy and I’ve been completely attracted to you since the moment I saw you, even when I know I shouldn’t be.

And here I am, up on the balcony in the middle of the night after what has been a miserable experience, because you kept on asking me questions that I wasn't going to answer and I kept drinking, all I can think is that I’m not all that miserable, because I like watching you.”His fingers reached out and brushed a lock of hair off her forehead, tucked it gently behind her ear.

“And it makes me wish I was one of those guys that didn’t give a shit about anyone but themselves, because I’d ask you to stay the night with me.”

I didn’t know how to answer this but he looked really sincere as he was saying all of this to her one thing I had gotten to understand was that words spoken when drunk was all a lie.

My eyes widened.

His fingers traced the curve of my ear, sending shivers down my spine. He wasn’t moving away. His speech wasn’t slurred. He . . . couldn’t be that drunk, could he? To be propositioning? “Wwhat do you mean, stay the night with you?”

“It’s late and you’re gorgeous,” he said bluntly, cupping her cheek in his hand. “And I’m wondering if we should both live a little. Have an incredibly intense onenight stand and not think about it in the morning. What do you say?”

I didn’t know if this was the drink talking or him, he looked like he had a lot of one night stands but for me this was surprisingly new.

I stared up at his handsome face as I contemplated his words. His fingers were warm on my skin, his touch making my every nerve ending sit up and pay attention.

I wanted to say yes. It had been years since I had dated anyone.

The last man I had cared for wasn’t worth it, to the point that I hadn’t wanted to date again after him.

But tonight . . . wouldn’t it be nice to have a torrid fling with a man who wanted me for me, Scratch the itch for sex that desperately needed scratching?

Especially with this handsome browned haired man, who seemed to embody everything I liked in a man?

And maybe in a different world I would have allowed him to bend me over his piano and have his way with me. But unfortunately I wasn’t that kind of girl.

Sydney POV

I shook my head and patted the front of his Jacket. “Hey,” she said softly. “You’re drunk, That’s why you’re propositioning me—”

I didn’t know what else to tell him, that was the only thing I could say to him, he had to be very drunk to be attracted to me sexually.

“It’s true,” He said. His arm—strong and firm—went to my waist and he pulled me against him, close enough that my breasts pushed up against his chest.

“I wanted you and I told you from the beginning but you didn’t want me, I had to ease into it”

I gasped, surprised at the feel of his mouth against mine, I . . hadn’t expected that. And yet, I was filled with the desire for more. The kiss had been way too brief.

His thumb grazed my lower lip, his gaze on my face. “I want you so much I can hardly stand it. It’s not just because you happen to be here and I’m horny. It’s because it’s you here, you are the one pressed up against my chest, and you make my dick hard every time you smile, Will you stay the night with me?”

I gazed up at him, considering. From the way he watched my mouth as l licked my lips, to the way he pulled my body against his, it truly did seem as if He was attracted to me

And really . . . what would it hurt to stay the night with Him? He made it clear that this would be a fling. A onetime thing.

A gorgeous guy wanted me for just one night of hot sex? No strings attached, no worries, no relationships, no nothing?

How was there possibly a downside to this?

Because I wanted this man, and he wanted me.

What could go wrong with that?

So I bit my lip, leaned forward, and pressed my mouth to his in a silent answer to his question.

kissing him was better than ice cream. Sweet, creamy chocolate ice cream with hot fudge dripping down the sides? Tasty, but not nearly as appealing to my senses as the warm breath of this man kissing me, his tongue slicking against my own in response to my kiss, his mouth opening wider to accept my tongue.

The groan he made when our mouths locked, and the way his hand stole down to my ass and clenched me against him as if she were beautiful and sexy and he wanted me like he wanted no other woman.

And when my mouth parted from his, a small, dreamy sigh escaped me.

I wasn’t sexual but he made me feel that way like he wanted my body and he couldn’t get enough of kissing me.

He made me feel like kissing me was better than breathing.

“Want to go inside?” He murmured and cupped my face with his long fingers.

I almost forgot that we were outside and I shouldn’t be doing this with him, I barely knew this man.

“I shouldn’t,” I answered immediately

“The question wasn’t whether or not you should, but if you wanted to,” he said, and one of his fingers traced my full lips again.

I took that fingertip between my teeth and licked the tip. “More than anything.”

“Then let’s not overthink it. Let’s just feel for a night.”

That sounded kind of wonderful. I nodded and he gave me another quick kiss, then took me by the hand and led me back into the hotel room. He flicked off lights as he went, leading me through the maze of rooms.

And then we were in the opulent bedroom. The walls were a soft warm wood, the drapes a pale cream color. The bed was a sumptuous king with a quilted white headboard and dozens of pillows tossed onto it. It looked like something out of a dream. “This is like no hotel room I’ve ever stayed in before.”

I had to say that, this was far better than any hotel I had ever been in, I hadn’t been in a lot of them.

“It’s nice, isn’t it? You should see the bathroom.” He said still holding me

“Can I?”I asked

He gestured at a door off of the bedroom. “Be my guest.”

I wandered in and gasped at the sight. It was beyond luxury—a rain shower; a sunken, Matted tub; thick, plush carpets—it had everything. I peeked at a door off to one side and laughed to see exercise equipment. “My goodness. This place is bigger than my apartment.”

“Mmm. Then I’m glad you’re here to enjoy it.”

He pulled me against him, pressing my back against his front.

His arms went around my waist and he nuzzled at my neck, brushing my hair aside and kissing my nape.

I shivered.

So I turned around, wrapped my arms around his neck, and pulled him in for a long, scorching kiss. My tongue played against his, then flicked against his lips. “I’ve seen enough in here. I think we should go back to the bedroom.”I was in control of what was happening, I had to be so I wouldn’t feel bad about what I was doing.

He groaned and gripped my ass in his hands. “I couldn’t agree more.” But he didn’t stop kissing me, Instead, he walked backward in small, slow steps, heading back toward the bedroom. And I giggled against his mouth, still kissing him in return.

Mouths locked the entire time, we staggered back to the bedroom. I accidentally stepped on his foot and he winced. “Sorry,” I breathed.

And that was all it took to ruin the mood.

Jaxton POV

I wasn't one to believe in fairytales or happily ever after. I never considered lobe to fit into my equation. The only way to happiness really was through money. And yet the moment I set my eyes on that vixen as she waltzed across the stage I found myself throwing all caution to the wind and wanting to go down on one knee.

Immediately I sat down comfortably in the club that my assistant made sure he got tickets for me to be at, I saw her peeping through what I consider a dressing room.

It was Friday and I was tired of Paxton thinking because he was older that he could get hold out of my life.

I didn’t want to be the boring twins, he was already doing that comfortably, I didn’t want to be in his shoes, I was in the company but I didn’t want to be outside if it didn’t involve women and fun things.

My assistant knew me and when he suggested that this was going to be the best place to drown my troubles, I decided to adhere to him.

But the moment I laid eyes on Sydney it was as though the rest of the world melted away. I could drown in her brown eyes, I could reach out and touch her dark hair, I wanted to lose my hands in it.

“I can carry you the rest of the way,” I told her between kisses.

I was brought back to the fact that she was here with me, she was all mine for this night.

I would be able to touch her and feel her sexy body.

My green eyes were heavily lidded with passion and she couldn’t stop staring at my sultry gaze.

I couldn’t keep my eye on her throughout her performance.

I had to get drunk to get her back to my home.

I had to play her games to get her to talk to me in the first place.

She was okay with having one nightstand with me, I was going to make sure she wasn’t going to forget about me in a long time.

All right, this onenight stand was going to be more fun than I thought. my hands went to the buttons of my shirt, undoing them. “I want to see your body.”

“Only if I get to see yours,” she told me, a mischievous smile covering her mouth. “One piece of clothing for one piece of clothing,” I told her

“That seems fair,” she teased.

A game took the tension out of undressing in front of a stranger. “But I get to pick your item of clothing.”

This all started with a game, maybe if they played a game now, it will eased the tension.

“As long as I get to pick yours,” I told her

She didn’t play fair in the club, I wasn’t going to let this be like that.

“All right. Can I go first?” she asked

“Always.” my eyes gleamed. “Ladies first.”

She tapped her lip, pretending to consider things. “Well, let’s start with the basics before we get to the good stuff. Off with your Jacket.”

I made a big show of removing my Jacket, humming a bawdy song under my breath, and pretending to strip it off for an imaginary crowd. I swung it over my head and then tossed it to the ground, while she laughed and clapped her hands.

She was making me happy, I could see it on her face that the tension she had when we just entered the suit was fading away gradually.

This was freaking adorable.

“Your turn,” she said, wiggling her eyebrows at me.

I tapped my mouth with one long finger, pretending to consider her clothing, and I knew what I wanted her to take off “How about . . . your bra?”

It was a question because I didn’t know how she was going to feel about taking her bra immediately.

“You can’t ask for my bra yet,” she told him. “It’s under my other clothes.”

“I don’t remember us establishing rules, Pretty one.” I pretended to twirl a mustache like an evil villain, and she couldn’t help but laugh again. “Now. Bra.”I wanted her to feel comfortable but I was dying to see her breasts.

With a faked sigh, she pulled her arms through her sleeves and began to wriggle around inside the cocoon her shirt made, unhooking the six industrialstrength clasps at the back of her bra.

I couldn’t keep my eyes off her, she didn’t look like she needed any help, and she looked so relaxed, this was what I wanted and I was getting it.

She needed to hurry up, I was already getting hard and I wanted to show her how to be loved.

“My turn, is it?”She brought me back to reality.

Her shirt was still on but I could see her hardened nipples and all I wanted to do was rip her shirt out of her body and lose myself in her.

“Might I suggest a lovely sock? I have two of them.” My voice was teasing, but she noticed my gaze was glued to her loose breasts in her shirt, and it made her nipples harden with excitement to see my need so blatantly.

She considered my clothing, instead. I wore my buttonup shirt, the collar open and loose, and a pair of slacks, socks, and shoes.

Even now, I knew she could see the bulge in the front of my trousers increasing and she licked her lips with anticipation.

And to my surprise, I groaned, my gaze hazy with lust again. “Can I just say I love that mouth of yours?”

She licked her lips again, teasing him, and then gestured at his shirt. “Off with that. I want to see your chest.”

And although rationality called out to me not to let my guard down around a stranger. As I watched her eyes twinkle I knew right then and there that this was going to be  much more than one night.

A game of thorns and roses perhaps. Bittersweet as we pray that the love will be worth the hurt

Chapter 6

The sun cast its rays brightly on him, he slowly opened his eyes, following the beam of the light, and he immediately shut his eyes, yawning aloud, he was fully awake to notice another peaceful breathing, he turned his gaze to her, she was gracefully sleeping with the sunlight radiating her beauty the more, already lost in her beauty, he had to leave and it was not going to be good of she wakes up to meet him here.

Gently removing her grip from his waistline he quickly slides into his trousers and wears his shirt, grabbing his keys, he walked out of her world.

The sound from the bolting door, jolted her from her deep sleep, she turned to tighten her grip but the emptiness of the space, hugged her delicate hands, she quickly opened her eyes to see a space, the bed was still warm,

Meaning he had just left not quite long,

"Shit!! What the f...? She sprung up, tying the duvet around her chest, rushing to the door, but the face of the room service greeted her Instead,

"Good morning ma'am, this is room service and I'm here to clean up" the lady smiled, Sydney faked a smile,

"Uhmm... I won't be needing your services for now...? Did you see the young man I signed in with last night?" Her eyes grazed through for answers, as she clutched her duvet.

"Oh? He left not quite long." Confused the lady looked at her, wondering what relationship she had with the handsome duke that just left the premises.

Smiling through gritted teeth, "ok, I'll call when I need you" she banged the door closed before the lady could reply,

Images and flashbacks from the previous night clouded her reasoning,

"Make Love to me!" She heard her moaning and the intense thrust that all took place that night on the same bed she was staring at,

She didn't even get to know, who he was or where she could find him, and just like that, that was how she slept with a mysterious man only familiar with her memories but not physically familiar with them.

She walked into the bathroom, turned on the shower knob, and let the water wash her and keep her sane enough. Memories coming back, the shower sex to the bedroom sex, all in one memory,

"Snap out of it Sydney!" She cautioned herself out of frustration.

After a long shower she, put on her dress from last night, and like that she left the room, walking out of the room the bar was already empty and virtually everyone had left the clubhouse.

Flagging down a taxi, she decided to go home instead,

"Where to ma'am?" The driver almost in his forties asked,

"Bentley 24th street by yellow duke" she grunts resting her head almost drifting off to sleep before the drive began.

Author's POV

The home of the Whites, was merely quiet when the G wagon jeep drove in, the maidservants and butler stood by the door to welcome their boss, Paxton stepped out of the airconditioned car as the evening breeze caressed his face, he was exhausted from the day's work and all that was written on his delicate face was all tiredness.

Paxton's POV

"You're welcome, Young master." The butler grabbed his suitcase heading upstairs,

"Where's Jaxton? He didn't report to the office throughout today? Did he drop by here at the mansion?" My deep voice echoed, with authority and poise.

The butler looked at the maidservants the look didn't go unnoticed by me, for sure Jaxton had not returned from wherever he went to

"Where's he?" I requested again.

"He hadn't come home since last night, Young master" the butler replied with his face down, I sigh then turned to the chef,

"Get my dinner ready," I climbed the stairs heading to my room, unbuckling the first button of my suit.

Shortly, I came down after I had freshened up and dressed in my casuals, the dinner was ready,

I sat down to grab it when he walked in,

"Hey bro? I looked at him,

"Where have you been, Jaxton?" I asked,

"Not now ok" he smirked and walked upstairs, I sigh watching him go upstairs.

I turned to the butler,

"Find out where he went to, who knows he might have caused some trouble there."

The butler stood confused,

"Why Sir?

"To clean up his mess?" I answered and dismissed the butler.

The night was peaceful, I carefully did the work from the office before drifting off to sleep.

Two days later.............

Arrg! Arrgh!! Arrgh!!!

The alarm screamed jolting me up from my deep sleep, I angrily turned it off,

Yawning, it's been two days, and I've practically been useless these days since the event from the night at the clubhouse I looked forward to him coming every night to the clubhouse but he never came back, and just like that the mystery man was gone, the worst was I couldn't get that night out of head, I grabbed my phone from the bedside table after it beeped a notification had come in, I swiped down, my eyes popped open, I felt immense anger, the worst was that, the position of a marketer in various companies, all I applied for is yet to give me a feedback.

I glance at the day of the eviction, I had less than 2 days to pay off,

The eviction notice again had come in the same way it did the previous week,

I looked out it was evening already, I stood up I was not in the mood to get stuck in here in misery, I grabbed my jacket, and walked out, in anger banging the door,

The clubhouse was still preparing to start for the night, so I went to the bar

"Two shots of vodka, please" I threw my bag on the counter

"Are you sure? The bartender noticed that I was not in anywhere near a good mood.

"Two shots!" I rolled my eyes, took one of the shots from him, and gulped it down my throat, the hotness from the drink nearly burnt my throat,

"Be careful." The bartender cooed, his eye I could see he wanted something, I handed him a tip, and drank a shot after, and in no time, my vision split and made me feel dizzy.

I grabbed my purse, with a bottle in my hands, coming down I missed a step and stumbled, as I balanced myself, I raised my gaze the figure walked in,

"Is he the one? I asked myself " "You're so dead, Sydney."

I looked up again to be sure he was the same person or it's the alcohol playing pranks on my eyes, and this time I was certain this was the face I never imagined I'd see again was standing before me in his glory, I smiled about to hug him in my sober state but what he did next startled me,

"Excuse me, Miss?" I know I was quite drunk but I was sane at the same time.

"You? Don't you remember me again? My heart shattered into a million pieces, why would I think he would remember me?

He walked past me, brushing his shoulders against me, causing me to fall,

He sat on the chair and ordered a drink,

"One please" I have had enough, if he was going to pretend to not know me then I might as well do something to make him sober of his actions.

CHAPTER 7

Author's POV

She stubbornly reassured herself he was the one and was just playing hard to get as she walked towards the point he took a seat.

She reached the spot and leaned on the table which had a bottle of whiskey on it, staring at him as he stared at his phone and didn't spare her a glance.

Without breaking her gaze, she walked and took a seat beside him, leaning on his shoulder as he stared at her confusingly, adjusting to the edge of the seat.

She moved closer to him, tugging onto his arm, snuggling closer to him.

"Get your hands of me, slut!!" He fired angrily.

The word "slut", resounded in her ears as she stared at him with disgust.

"Doesn't he remember me?, Why's he acting weird?" She asked herself and stubbornly clinged onto his arm again and he shook her arm off his.

She rose from the seat and glared daggers at him with disgust before emptying the content of the glass she held on him, turning around and storming away.

His gaze flew from his wet and stained jacket to her retreating figure as he couldn't find her amongst the crowd anymore, wondering why she acted so irrational and if he knew her from somewhere before.

"Alcohol isn't everyone's thing" he muttered before taking of his jacket angrily and storming out of the club, regretting why he came there in the first place.

Sydney picked her bag and exited the club through the staffs exit, as she couldn't decipher why he pretended not to recognize her after disappearing posterior to their unforgettable one night stand.

She boarded a taxi which took her to her apartment and after freshening up, she laid on her bed and couldn't catch an atom of sleep because of tiring thoughts so she decided to distract herself with her phone.

She remembered she activated the "do not disturb" mode, which obstructed her notifications and she deactivated the mode as notifications flooded her screen immediately.

She clicked on an email notification and it was from a company she applied for a job and it stated that she has been invited for an interview the next day.

She was super excited and immediately forgot about the incident that took place at the club.

She set an alarm for 5AM before sleeping off happily.

The next morning, the sound of the alarm woke her up as she stumbled out of bed and freshened up before settling on a formal outfit of a milk coloured sleeve and black palazzo pants.

She had breakfast and picked her pouch and a file containing her CV before heading out of her apartment.

She boarded a taxi and reached the company after an hour and twenty minutes. She paid the fare and walked towards the entrance of the building.

She met with the receptionist who showed her the HR department. She was given a seat while she awaited the manager. He arrived and she handed him her curriculum vitae which he took to his office.

He sent for her and commended her CV, before asking her about her previous work experience.

"Honestly sir, I am interested in an entrylevel position, I know I have much to learn and I am looking for an opportunity to help me build a strong professional foundation" she stated, and he was impressed by her way of explaining the fact that she has no experience.

"So, are you trying to say you had no job or occupation before now?" He asked.

"Yes sir" she said dishonestly.

"Okay, you have the job, you can resume tommorow and take note of the fact that this company tolerates no form of immoral or indecent behaviour" he said to her and she was happy she didn't reveal anything about her previous job.

"Thank you so much sir, I'll do my best to make my presence in this company a factor to boost its productivity" she said and he nodded affirmatively with a smile as she collected her CV and stepped out of his office, joyously.

She returned to her apartment and happily made arrangements for her first day at work. She noticed a document amongst her CV and read through it.

The document contained information about her pay and the company's code of conduct. The pay was mouthwatering as she hopped excitedly around her apartment.

Nightfall arrived and she slept off with a gladened heart.

The next morning, she observed her morning ritual of having a warm bath and brushing her teeth before dressing up and wearing a very light make up as she packed her hair in a ponytail and wore wedges.

She stepped out of her apartment and happily boarded a taxi which transported her to the company's gate. She stepped down after paying the driver and walked towards the company's entrance.

The receptionist pointed the elevator which led to the last floor where her office was located. The elevator's entrance was about shutting when she stepped in and noticed someone else inside.

She elevated her gaze, and stared at the face, only to find out he was also gazing down at her. She recognized the face immediately and returned her gaze to the floor.

"Stripper from the club" he blurted out, chuckling annoyingly.

She panicked immediately, realizing that he recognized her.

"I'm doomed!" She said to herself inwardly.

The elevator came to a halt and he stepped out first. She ran after him and stood before him, obstructing his way and stared at him pleadingly.

"Please, no one must hear about this" she pleaded and he smirked mischievously.

"Please, name your price, just don't let anyone know about this" she blurted out hurriedly, afraid of losing a job she hasn't even started and he still didn't say anything.

"I'm begging you in the name of……." Her statement was cut short the moment she noticed a figure behind the man she was begging. She stared at the both of them in confusion and they gazed at her in return, one coldly and the other, mischievously.

"Who…" she started, only to pause midway when they both walked out on her, leaving her in her state of beffudlement.

She stared at their retreating figures and her legs wobbled.

Chapter 8

Still, in a confused state, the secretary called out to her,

"Miss shepherd? Come take your appointment letter" lost beyond measure, she managed to get herself a stand then walked towards the counter,

"You're quite lucky, it wasn't the CEO themselves who interviewed you. They're both quite picky and have different expectations when it comes to hiring a new member." The lady smiled, signed on the paper then gives her to put her signature.

"They're twins?" She inquired, the lady looked at her,

"Haven't you heard of the white brothers? They're the heirs of the White household and both have a share of the company too" her mouth widened agape.

"Don't tell me you've not heard of them before?" Her brows twitched, looking intently at Sydney,

"What? How am I possibly supposed to meet them?" She faked a small laugh before signing her name.

"See you." The lady walked out just before She realize she didn't get to know her name.

Walking out of the building, Paxton stood close to the window, watching her board a taxi,

"what was she doing here of all places?" He thought deeply, she looked quite sober than the other night, he could tell just by a single look, she was pretty.

"Paxton?" His voice startled him bringing him out of his thoughts,

"Have you by any chance met her before? Jaxton sat comfortably, he knew she must have by chance mistook him for Jaxton.

"Why would I? We have virtually nothing in common" he defended, then he recalled the weird moment he saw them both, in the elevator,

"You know her? What kind of girl is she?" Paxton knew the girls who often hang around his brother were all nothing but touts, was she one of his bedroom chicks? He frowned at the thought of this,

"Yes, I know her but not what you're thinking." He smirked, standing up, Paxton's eyes immediately followed him,

"Where are you going to? We have a meeting with the Taiwan investors?" Jaxton turned swiftly to him,

"You're good at this stuff, I am not." And with that, he walked out.

"That son of a ....." He held his breath, then took a deep breath. He turned his gaze to the window when she had successfully flagged down a taxi and was getting into it,

"What's your identity really, Sydney Shepherd?" He asked no one in particular watching the taxi driver out of the company driveway.

The door opened, Dana walked in,

"Sir, the Taiwan investors have arrived. And they are waiting for you in the conference room." Paxton sighs, his brother has yet again missed another potential meeting.

"Ok then, tell the human resources to gather all the files and head there, take this with you" he hands over the blue spiral bounded file to her,

"I'll then soon, give me a few minutes." He says she walks out closing the door behind him, and he falls his back to the chair, sighing.

Sydney walked into her apartment, the still and quiet aura hugged her, she throws her purse onto the small couch and walked to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

Opening the fridge, the water was not at all chill, she felt others but nothing, it was then she realized her electricity had been cut off from her apartment. She sighs removing her shoes, and slides into her flipflop, entering her room, she removed her clothes and went to have her shower,

"Jaxton and Paxton? Dammn! You're screwed, Sydney?" She ran her hands through her head.

Coming out of the bathroom, it then occurred to her that she could search them up on social media, sitting on her bed in the floradesigned nightgown, she rammed through the internet, another world that seems to know everyone,

"There it is!" She clicked on a blog and read within herself,

" Paxton and his younger twin brother, Paxton had agreed to run their company together as coCEOs after their father passed away and handed it to them but it was Paxton who took care of most of the office business while Jaxton usually traveled around for business but had fun while he was at it." She gasped,

"They're so identical to tell them apart, how do I know?" She sighs, searching all night made her quite sleepy, and soon the darkness hovered over her.

Next morning.........

She stood at the front door taking deep breaths, she walked in approached the counter,

"Hey there, you're quite early, very impressive" the lady smiled,

"Yes, sorry didn't get to know your name," returning the smile Sydney asked.

"Dana Adams. But you can call me Dana." Dana beamed.

"So where's the marketing department? " Looking around, the front door opened and both CEOs walked in, the room though silent, the squealing from other females could be heard, and their dazzling walking step as a duo made them more attractive, Paxton's gaze jammed with hers, and she immediately broke off the contact, she swiftly turned to Miss Dana

"I'll locate the Marketing department" she rushed to the elevator, as soon as she sensed them approaching Dana's table. Inside the elevator, she heaved a deep sigh of relief.

The elevator immediately opened, she walked out, marveled at how pretty the building looked upstairs,

"Excuse me!" in split seconds she was out of the way of the guy carrying a box filled with files, he turned to her,

"Are you Sydney Shepherd?"

"Yes sir," wondering how he got to her name,

He laughs," your resume was submitted to me yesterday," he dropped the box on the table behind her,

"Follow me," she Instantly followed him,

"This is your table, that's your ID which you must have on at all times, there's a penalty that comes with it when you don't have it on. But first, am your supervisor, James."

"Good morning Mr. James" she squeal, he was quite friendly to be her supervisor,

"Take this, and photocopy it, after you're done, meet me in my office. Chop chop!" He claps,

"This early?" She grunts, he turned his eyes to her, and she smiles,

"On it!" Walking back to the elevator, as soon as the elevator opens, about to walk out when her head bumped into someone's hard chest, causing her to lose her balance, but caught before her butt met with the ground, closing her eyes tight, she slowly opened them to meet the charming eyes, she could head heels over,

"Sir JaxPaxton?" Words messed up in her head,

"What's all this?" Her subconscious screamed.

He looked deep Into her brown eyes, he smirked,

"Are you enjoying this, because I'm not?" She immediately came out of her lost thoughts, batting her eyes repeatedly like a kid, each bat pulling his heartstrings,

"Sorry, Sir." She abruptly ended the contact, setting her balance.

"Next time, stay 2 meters from me," He says." And with that, he walked away without acknowledging her apology,

She gasps,

" How rude." She murmured, watching him walk away in a coltish way,

"Is he injured?" Arching her brows, she bent to pick up the files scattered all over the floor,

"He's not even that handsome, bet, his twin is quite handsome" she mumbled angrily, storming to the human resources department to photocopy the files.

"Just my first and I already feel old" she grunts.

She finished up with the photocopy and quickly head over to the department,

"You're quite slow" the supervisor complained,

"If not for that....." She froze Instantly, that was her boss, she was about to curse Infront of her supervisor,

"It's too early to get fired, Sydney." Her subconscious mind warned her.

"What?" The supervisor asked looking suspiciously at her as she asks all weird.

"Nothing sir," she added, biting her lower lip in frustration.

The department was full already with were already arriving, the supervisor looked at her,

" You know...." His telephone rang he picked it up, and his tone immediately changed,

" Yes Sir." Her eyes popped open, it was only the two CEOs he must be addressing as Sir. Her mind had traveled far and wide, thinking of the possibility of the twin she bumped into telling on her to her supervisor.

He dropped the call, then turned to look at her,

"What did you do to Mr. Jaxton? He asked, she stared at him in confusion,

"Why was he asking as if she could tell the twin apart? The more frustrating part was that she doesn't know with whom she shared a bed and with whom she spilled a drink on, her life was practically a movie, and it was not nice.

"Who?

"Mr. Jaxton? He asked to see you in his office immediately." She blinked repeatedly, gulping down the saliva down her throat in anxiety,

She was about to gave a nervous breakdown because of these twins that are somewhat her bosses.

" Be going, you're keeping him waiting. His office is the first door by the left, top floor, and be careful around him, Boss Jaxton tends to be..... Nevermind, just go" He returned to what he was doing,

Confused about what he meant by he was, She entered the elevator to the top floor, soon she was staring at the door, and her body stopped for a while, she had to face any of them from that night no matter how hard she tried to avoid, it seems nearly impossible.

Opening the door, the coldness of the room first hit her making her shudder, the man in the black tuxedo suit, sat with his legs crossed, and immediately their eyes met she gulped down her saliva in tension,

"Sydney Shepherd" he smirked, immediately she recognized he was the one from last night,

"It was you, wasn't it?" She rolled her eyes,

"Hey, you don't roll your eyes at your boss, do you want me to fire you?" Not letting her reply he immediately said,

"I won't do that, I want to watch how far you're willing to go to keep your little secret. Am still shocked how you're able to live a lie in the day without feeling any remorse. You do surprise me."

" Are you going to tell the world what two adults agreed to do?" She was trying to play mind games with him but he seemed difficult to swindle.

" Can't you keep this little secret of mine?" He smirked, he was going to blackmail her,

" Well, I promise to keep to my end of the bargain if you do yours" she clutched her fist, he was spilling nonsense,

" I don't care" she turned to leave,

" Do you think Paxton would hesitate to keep you here once he finds out you lied your way into the company? I've known my brother for 26 years and the one thing he disposed of more is lying to his face, things could get messy" she shivered inferred, was that how cruel and coldhearted, Paxton was?

Judging from his reply when she fell, his cold response got to her.

He stood up, and walked towards her, her strawberry perfume, turned him on instantly, he looked at her, stumbling a little bit, he smirked

"How much damage does my presence do to you?" He pushed her hair behind her ears causing her to tremble,

Tears filled her eyes, this was the only good thing that had happened all her life and now when she was getting a hang of that he wants to ruin everything for her.

"Fine, I won't say anything but it takes a heavy payment to seal my big mouth" and with that, he walked past her to his seat, she turned swiftly to him,

"Go and think about it" dismissing her, she nods, the turns to leave, as soon as she closed the doorknob behind her, she bumped into Paxton, her heart Instantly dropped, and ran a marathon,

The suspicious look on his face was not encouraging,

"Sir..? He cut her off immediately,

"What are you doing in Jaxton's office? As far as I know, your work here doesn't relate anything to yours. He narrowed her eyes like he wanted to see through her.

Sydney tried to explain that Paxton didn't listen to her. Paxton told her not to lag off work. Paxton left and Sydney was relieved Paxton didn't hear.

Relaxing, she put on a warm smile,

"I mistook your office for his sir." She replied warmly, almost good enough to believe, Paxton was meticulous in his dealings and often the smart one who solves puzzles and highly calculative life instances, swaying him was not going to be easy, part of her was greatly relieved he did not hear her discussion with Jaxton, meaning she was still safe.

"I don't need you to get the hell out of my sight." He cussed, feeling more irritated by her.

"It's not like you're handsome anyway" she murmured,

"What did you say?" Almost hearing her say something,

"Nothing, I was just leaving," and with that, she entered the elevator, still looking at her, Paxton could not shake off this energy he gets from her.
