Maya’s POV
It was one thing to be abandoned at birth by your biological parents who think you won’t be a great addition to their family, and It was another to be dumped at a packhouse where they don’t know your parents.
I had so many questions I wanted to ask my parents when we eventually meet; I want to ask why they hated me, why they didn’t abort me when they found out they were having a child, and mostly why I was dumped in a pack where the occupants don’t care about anything other than themselves?
They could have left me in the bush and left me to die, and we would all be at peace.
My name is Maya, and this is my story. I was dumped at birth by my parents, who don’t belong to this pack, and the then Alpha handed me over to the Monastery, and I was being taken care of.
I was an altar girl, and not too many people attended the church here because the majority of the nuns were humans. They believe in something different other than the moon goddess, part of what made them hate me more.
When I turned fourteen in the monastery, the Alpha granted us permission to attend schools with other pups in the pack. This new development didn’t sit well with most wolves, but there was nothing they could do about that.
At least we didn’t get pushed around and bullied. We were fourteen girls from the monastery, all dumped at birth, and there’s always a short rosary around our neck, and the nuns would tell us to pray to the holy Mary.
When I turned sixteen, The alpha got killed in a battle against another pack and our future changed. The alpha bloodline was angry with us because our God couldn’t save the alpha despite him being nice.
We were converted into omegas, and the new alpha sent us to the omegas quarters. The nuns were ordered to leave the pack, but they couldn’t go with us. We were twelve in total and we had to join other existing omegas. That was when our woes started.
I didn’t want a life like this but we had no choice.
The bullying started but the new alpha didn’t care, his son was the leader of those bullies. We would get bullied everywhere even in school. It was something we couldn’t take anymore.
Two of the girls took poison and we were shocked when the alpha ordered for their bodies to be burnt and he said poison should be provided to everyone who wanted to die.
The younger wolves would tease us for weeks and talk about us having a choice to either die or accept fate. No one cared about how they died or the lives of those of us remaining.
That seemed like a goahead to the other wolves to intensify the bullying. The wolves started bullying us in public and they started a petition that omegas should be banned from attending school with them and it was granted.
Riyadh, another girl from the monastery turned twenty and she found out the beta’s son was her mate. He had bullied her multiple times and each of the bullyings ended with her getting marks upon marks.
The whole pack pleaded with her to forgive him and she refused to be married to him. She insisted she was content being an omega than spending the rest of her life with him.
They stopped bullying us for a while since most of their kids are coming of age and finding their mates among omegas. Riyadh took her own life and the beta’s son wanted to die. I kind of feel so good about it, don’t misquote me.
I don’t mean that Riyadh’s death is good but seeing beta Coleman’s son suffer till the moon goddess takes pity on him and grants him a second chance mate.
I picked up my tired body and approached the Alpha’s son suite. Today is Monday, and I dare not get there by 9 pm. The beta’s son has stopped bullying everyone that comes his way, but the Alpha’s son is still a worse bully. He hates me significantly since I told them I can’t shift and I can’t do anything yet. I turned twenty recently, and nothing changed, except I got more bruises on my body, though.
They host a game every time, and it’s for the omegas, you are forced to fight against each other, and the winner gets one week of freedom while the loser does the work of his opponent and his portion too. The bullying of the loser is extreme, considering he still has bruises from the games. The new generation of wolves in this pack is vile, and they are all the same—big bullies with messedup fantasies of people bowing to them.
I knocked twice before I pushed the door open at his command. Jason sat on the chair, and the wall was stained with alcohol, and the floor had particles of broken bottles. No doubt he flung the alcohol at the wall; oh shit. I’m done for tonight.
I might die, and I might not; either way, the night is about to be bloody. Let me tell you a secret about Jason, it’s an inside joke, but I know you won’t tell anyone. He can’t command his alpha wolf; His wolf is relatively weak.
He covers that with his anger issues. For someone who gets angry at even the most minuscule things, he deserves a weak wolf who can’t argue for five seconds.
He never shifts in public because his wolf is tiny compared to his sister’s wolf, and it’s slow too.
“Crawl on those shard of glasses now,” He ordered with a snicker, and my heart dropped. I can’t believe I stared at those broken glasses too much. I looked back at him to see if he was joking or not, but the snicker on his face told me he was not. The bastard really meant every word. I took a deep breath and tried to come up with something. I saw him stand up from where he was sitting, and I knew he was coming at me to hit me maybe or drag me over the shards himself.
His door opened and his sister came in, between Melissa and Jason I don’t know who is worse. Melissa was more brutal when it came to making omegas suffer and she was the one always coming up with the games in the omega’s games.
I wonder how a sociopath like her would get mated to someone because she never runs out of ideas on how to make people suffer to death. I’m not the only one that hates her though, Jason hates her too.
I mean knowing that she’s likely to overthrow him because she was stronger and she made perfect pack decisions. If had a sister who’s likely to overthrow me, I won’t be a fan of her too.
“It’s time for your spirit training and your father is waiting with the master. If I were you, I wouldn’t keep them waiting.
The omega can wait till morning.” She said before turning on her heels swiftly and she made sure to bang the door extra hard and I flinched where I was kneeling.
He pretended as if she didn’t just come to tell him that his father was waiting for him in the training hall. They always scheduled the training for the night because of people finding out that their future alpha is a weak one.
He muttered some things under his breath before his eyes landed on me and he approached me with fury. He was going to take out the anger he felt for Melissa on me.
“You heard me bitch” He screamed in my face, and what followed was a slap that made my neck shift sideways. He continued hitting me before he started pulling me towards the wall; I knew he was going to pull me over the shards himself. I was done having his shit and I mustered what was left of my strength and I shoved him hard. He landed on the glass and I dashed out of the room before he could stand up from the glasses.
Heading to the omega quarters meant I was going to be punished badly tomorrow morning and It means I wanted to remain in this hell hole for life. I made my decision on that spot and I turned before running so fast towards the borders.
No one knew what I wanted to do so they stared at me and When I got closer to the borders, I jumped before shifting in the air and landing on the next territory. I was an omega so they can’t chase me right there.
I didn’t look back and I kept on running further. No one would find me, I was worthless to them and this was my reality now. I tore through the wind like an Arabian horse and I felt it, Freedom for the first time in years.
_________
Someone rudely pulled me awake from under the tree I was sleeping and I opened my eyes to see who dared do such. For the past three days that I’ve been on the run, rouges avoided me because I looked kind of big and they don’t know I‘m a girl. I’ve not shifted since then and even when I shifted once at a river, I made sure people weren’t around to see me shift. I made sure I swam to my fill and when I was tired of the water, I shifted back into my wolf and I continued my run.
“Shift Rouge” The person commanded and I stared at him. I wasn’t expecting him to command me like that. I didn’t even know I had entered another Alpha’s territory. I didn’t want this, I enjoyed my freedom moment so well and I had no idea that life as a rouge was this amazing. I maintained eye contact with the man who ordered me to shift. He reeked of power and I could tell he was either the beta or the delta.
“You seem harmless and I would advise you to just shift now and prevent yourself from getting killed. You could shift and we would have a civil conversation and everyone’s good.
Allow me to remind you that you’re in the Silver Crest Pack and my alpha doesn’t tolerate rouges”. He said and my eyes widened. I had no idea I had journeyed this far.
The alpha of the Silver Crest pack was the most brutal alpha in this realm and we have heard different stories as kids of how he singlehandedly took down a whole league of werewolf hunters making him the Alpha King.
My bones start to crack as I shifted slowly.
“Oh shit!” He turned around fast and everyone else did the same as soon as he saw that I was a girl. He removed his shirt revealing a perfect set of abs and he threw it at me. I understood immediately and I wore it to cover my nakedness.
I was tiny compared to him and the shirt looked like a gown on me. He turned around after confirming that I was dressed. One of his boys stepped forward and he cuffed my hands.
The handcuff had little streaks of silver in them so they burned but not enough to cause damage but enough to make me weak. We all walked and I knew we were heading to the alpha’s office. It usually happens in my pack too.
I wanted to explain to him that I don’t want to stay here and I want to keep running. It’s not my place to decide that, the alpha would decide for us first. I really hoped he wasn’t like the Alpha douchebag of my previous pack.
Ha, I loved the sound of that; My previous pack

Alpha Asher’s POV.
I went back to my seat since Daniel mind linked me that the rouge that crossed our border was a female wolf and she looked dirty and bruised. I guessed that maybe she escaped from an abusive alpha or maybe an evil mate.
I have a lot of them here in my pack, starting their life afresh because their mate decided to move mad. Most times when we get female rouges, that’s always the case.
I mindlinked another female wolf to prepare a room for her and help her feel comfortable till I’m done working then I would come to see her.
I wonder why some males would hit their mates and maltreat them to the point of running away? I guess some people have things and they don’t value them.
This was my tenth year of being the Alpha King of the werewolf realm and for once I’ve never gotten a mate. Some are lucky to get another mate after their previous ones died. I’ve never gotten anyone before, not even one that has had a mate before.
It was sad for me because I wanted more. To be loved unconditionally by one person and to be able to return the love without fear.
Something felt unusual and for the first time, since I’ve been able to contact my wolf and have a relationship with it, I can’t decipher what this feeling is. I couldn’t concentrate on the work I was trying to finish so I decided I’d had enough work to do for the day. Maybe a run on the tracks and ending it with a visit to the new addition to our pack. I needed to confirm that she wasn’t a spy or anything whatsoever. I couldn’t deal with that right now.
Stepping out of the pack office, I had a change of mind. The heat was somehow unbearable and I decided to go swimming instead. The water didn’t sound like a bad idea and I took the shortcut passing in front of the orphanage, I decided to go in. Those children haven’t seen me since last week and I promised them that I would take them for something fun this week. I needed to remind them that the deal was still on if I don’t have more paperwork to fill.
I walked in and those children attacked me with hugs. They didn’t give me a chance to breathe and I laughed when they successfully pulled me to the floor and they started tickling me.
They wanted to hear me laugh and I made sure to frown for them to give up but they weren’t having any of it. I finally let go of my facade and I started laughing.
Giving a home to these children was some kind of feeling I couldn’t get rid of that fast, It was like making sure they didn’t end up like me. I kind of like the whole thing, making sure their parent’s choices didn’t affect their living.
I didn't wake up one morning and decide to be the Alpha king, in fact, I didn't get a pack passed on to me. I built everything from scratch and together with my friends, we built the most formidable pack in the werewolf realm. Daniel, Edna, Shalom, and Tommy were the first set of friends I ever had in my life and the war brought us together.
For over a hundred years, The faeries wanted to take over the werewolf realm and rule over the entire supernatural realm. We were quite young then and soon the effect of the war started to get to the grassroots. Most packs started tossing out their extra members because the food was dwindling and they need to survive, I was the black sheep of my family then and it didn't come as a shock when I got tossed out. Daniel grew up in the monastery and everyone there got tossed out too.
Edna's father had too many children and he tossed out his female children, her sister died before we could finalize our dreams. Together with other rouges who needed a place to call home, we started this pack. We slowly built ourselves and we ended the war, we defeated the faeries. We earned our place in the werewolf realm and since then, the royal pack is open to every harmless rogue who wants a place to call home.
“Is the Alpha in here?” Someone asked from the door and I sat upright, The kids left me alone gradually when they discovered the person looking for me had some serious business for
me. I watched him bow mildly before I waved him off. He cleared his throat before he started speaking.
“Beta Daniel said he has tried mindlinking you several times but you’ve been distracted and there’s a blockage on the pack’s link.
He said to meet him at the pack clinic because the rogue just fainted and all efforts to revive her are proving difficult.” When he finished talking, I sat upright in shock. The last thing I wanted was a dead woman’s case in my hands.
It could be worse than anyone would think and it could even be a trap to make trouble for the royal pack. He bowed slightly before running in a different direction.
My thought became jumbled because what if she was a trap by one of my too many enemies and they wanted to destabilize me. The odds of a bruised woman showing up in this pack is almost sixty percent but a bruised and sick one falls by ten percent.
I walked out of the orphanage and I walked extremely fast. The pack doctor should be able to do something, she is one of our very best.
She came from a long generation of healers and she has been taught how to deal with cases like this by her predecessor, they should have. I hastened my footsteps when I felt how worried Daniel sounded in my head.
I felt like there was more to this whole thing Like there were a lot of things that were about to change. I could feel it in my guts and my guts don't lie.
My wolf started pacing aggressively in my head, I was trying to communicate but he keeps wanting to jump out of my head. I wasn’t going to let him out because one Language Cypher understood was violence.
I’m the nicer one out of the two of us and if I was being honest, Cypher makes a lot of rash decisions on his own. I let him out on rare occasions and at wars, Cypher is always unstoppable, many feared him more than they feared me.
Something huge was about to happen to us and I could feel it too. I’m sure he could too, there was this rush of adrenaline pumping through me.
I broke into a jog towards the pack clinic because I can’t keep calm and keep walking again. I wanted to do something more. Arriving at the pack clinic, Daniel was standing outside already waiting for me.
He waved his hands and I turned to walk towards him. Cypher’s pacing became more aggressive and the adrenalin pump was so high.
I literally want to break into a run and run for hours along the borders of my pack but something was keeping me rooted here. I was being energy high and I wanted to do a lot of things while finding what to do too.
That was when it hit me, the enchanting lavender smell. Walking closer to Daniel he had it splattered all over his body. I could smell it so well. Daniel can’t even be my mate, the goddess dare not play a trick on us.
Cypher was almost growling in my head but I couldn’t pick up what he was saying. My whole body was on fire and my thought scattered all over the place. Did Daniel come in contact with my mate before me?
I had no doubt about this and Cypher didn't like it one bit that Daniel had touched our mate before us and her scent was scattered all over his body.
“My Alpha, is there something wrong? You look a little unsettled. Scratch that, you look restless.” Daniel said and I took another breath. I was an adult and I can definitely deal with this in a proper manner.
I took short deep breaths in quick succession before I turned to look at him. The scent had reduced and I sighed in relief. Daniel wasn’t my mate but he had come in contact with my mate.
Cypher kept up with the pacing and he wasn’t pleased one but that Daniel came in contact with our mate before us.
“There’s a weird scent coming from you. It’s not there before. Did you touch anyone else?” I asked with a low voice and he nodded slowly. He was lost at first and when everything started to come back to him, his mouth rounded in an "O" and he beckoned me to follow him.
He walked hastily into the pack clinic and I followed him. The scent was becoming stronger and as I walked closer to the roll of rooms, the smell became stronger. The adrenalin rush was still there and I was close to tears, I was finally getting a mate. After so many years, The moon goddess finally took pity on my lonely self.
I was finally going to have a mate to call mine, I was finally going to see someone to call mine and spend the rest of my life with. We were going to start our own little family and we would be happy forever. I couldn’t wait but for some reason, I started having cold feet. What if she doesn’t want me as her mate? What if she has fallen in love with someone else, or what if she has a thing against her chosen mates? I don’t even want to go down that lane at all.
As if Daniel could read my mind, he slowed down a bit before he grabbed my hand, it was some kind of reassurance, and I’m thankful that I have this man in my corner. He’s always so understanding and in moments when I can say what’s going on; it’s as if he can read my thoughts. I’m happy to have him as a friend and as my beta.
When we got to the entrance of the room, the scent intensified and it was clouding my senses. I pushed the door open gently and I walked in with hope. I hope whoever the Moon Goddess picked for me, would be perfect for me in my own way. She would complete me in ways no one else had. I couldn’t wait to meet her. I never had any expectations for my mate because I wanted to love her as she is, I only prayed she was perfect for me.
When I got into the room, nothing prepared me for what I saw next. I saw my mate on the bed, with a tube connected to her body. No doubt bringing fluids to her body. I wanted to cry or worse do something to whoever made her like this.
No human deserves to look this frail and malnourished. No human deserves whatever my mate has been through. Her whole body looked like she hasn’t had a meal in days.
While I wasn’t comfortable with the fact that she was wearing Daniel’s outfit, her exposed legs showed marks and marks. Some looked older than the rest but whatever the case is, I'm glad she is out of there. She was here with me now, she is mine now.
I wanted to find whoever did this to her, find them one after the other, and make their lives hell.
She turned in her sleep and a soft sigh escaped her lips. I was enthralled by her whole features, even with the scars, she looked like she wasn't made for this realm. Each time people say that be calm, your mate would be perfect. I never believed it till now. She was perfect and the scars didn't make her any less than perfect.
Her soft breaths filled the room and she looked like she had no care in the world. She looked like she was finally at peace. That alone brought me peace, looking at her sleeping peacefully and without a care in the world. This was how she was going to be sleeping forever, he was going to protect her at all cost.

Alpha Asher’s POV
“What’s your name?” I asked in a soft voice, and her eyes darted all over the place as if she was looking for an escape route. I don’t want my mate to stare at me like she was scared of me; I don’t want my mate to be scared of me.
I want her to love me and me to love her back in return. This wasn’t what I planned at all. I have been trying to get her to talk for the past ten minutes, but she wasn’t budging.
I don’t know how to do this, but for her, I wanted to put in every possible effort. This was the person I’ve been waiting for all my life and I wasn’t going to let things get messed up.
I kind of understand considering that she woke up from a terrible nightmare hours ago and she has been too scared to even blink talkless of sleeping. I watched her close her eyes for a bit before snapping them open again.
After she had her bath, I had Edna, my Zeta get a few clothes for her till she was ready to shop for herself. I wished she didn’t go through all of these before she met me, I wish I left my region more often.
Maybe we would have met and I would have saved her from whatever was tormenting her even in the dreams. I watched her go through her last nightmare and I really felt helpless.
“Okay, Let’s do this. My name is Asher. What’s yours?” I asked with a whisper and she finally raised her eyes to look at me. At last, I was making progress, her eyes were fixed on her hand as if it was the most interesting thing in the room all day. I was close to giving up but her looking at me definitely means I was making good progress.
“Maya, my name is Maya. The nuns from the monastery said it means a good soul.” She whispered back and I tested the name on my lips. I loved the way it sounded and pronouncing it brought a smile to her face. This was real progress. I didn’t know what to ask next, I was selecting my questions carefully so I don’t trigger her into silence. It took a whole lot of effort after she woke up to get her to talk.
I picked her hand from the bed and I watched her jolt back in shock, she could feel it too, she could feel the mate bond too. I was glad that I’m not the only person feeling this way, explaining it to her would be easier this way. I wondered if she ever knew what a mate was or how the bond worked.
“We are mated. Wow, I don’t want a mate. I want to walk around the whole world free from everyone.” She added a few minutes later and my whole body dropped in disappointment. She was giving up on us before we even had a chance to explore our mate bond. I feared this would happen that was why I wanted to take my time and explain things to her. Unfortunately, someone already messed up an idea of how mate should be for her and now have to beat a soiled record.
“Maya, you’re really going to reject me before you get to know me?’ I asked and she nodded almost immediately. I don’t know which was more disappointing, the fact that she didn’t want me, the fact that she made her decision quickly and as fast as possible, or the fact that she seemed so sure that rejecting was the best option for her. She wasn’t even giving me an opportunity to prove that our mate bond was going to be the best thing that happened to us both.
“Maya, do you know the moon goddess paired us for a reason, she makes the best decision. She knows we would be perfect for each other, that’s why.” I added softly and I wished I didn’t because Maya started throwing things and screaming at me to get out. It happened too fast, one minute she was being calm with me, and the next she was acting enraged. I should have known that most people from the monastery rarely like the moon goddess, same with Daniel too.
“You sit there and tell me crap about the moon goddess and what she wants. I don’t fucking care about whatever she wants and I do not want you as a mate.
She fucking sat on her throne like a princess and watched them fucked my life up and leave my body as a museum of scars.
She watched while my parents dumped me in hell, she fucking watched when everyone in the monastery got tossed out and we were turned to omegas.
We were treated as slaves and we saw hell, now I took an action by myself and you’re telling me crap about a stupid goddess who couldn’t even save Alpha Liam. Don’t feed me the crap. I don’t need the goddess and I for one, don’t care about her at all.
Don’t blame you, you probably grew up with a silver spoon and you don’t know what life as an omega entails. It’s easier for you to say stuff about how a goddess makes the best decision.
Maybe my parents dumping me was a great decision she helped them make too. In fact, I’m getting out of here and this pack. I fucking want to see the Alpha and he should let me go.
I’d rather die as a rogue than spend the rest of my life with y0u” She screamed in my face and for the first time, I felt like a failure. All of these could have been prevented if I had gone in search of her instead of waiting for her to come to me.
I don’t what broke my heart more, the fact that she had to go through all of these alone. I felt for her I wish I could take away all of her hurt. I couldn’t and I hated the fact that she canceled me without getting to know me.
She didn’t stop throwing things at me and I stepped out for a moment. This was beyond my control already. I told the nurse on duty to sedate her till she was calm again and we would have another decent conversation.
I walked back to the pack office feeling dejected, I couldn’t get the fact that my mate didn’t want me and she probably won’t want me out of my head. It hurts too much to even think of it.
I wanted to be there for her every step but she wasn’t letting me. Daniel walked past me to go on patrol duties before he squeezed my shoulder in reassurance, this was way more than we thought.
I came back later to watch her sleep, I wished it was this easy for all of us. In less than twentyfour hours, she has made a dent in my life already.
She had a nightmare earlier and watching the CCTV footage of how she pleaded for a certain Alpha not to kill her shredded me into pieces.
She didn’t deserve any of this, no human deserves to go through things like this but this life was unfair to everyone. I wanted to hold her in her sleep and watch her take each breath like they were precious but I was scared of her reaction.
I didn’t want to scare her off, I wanted to take things slowly with her. We are going to be together forever and there’s no need to rush things.
She tossed around and when she finally opened her eyes, my breath hitched. I was supposed to go out of there so I don’t trigger another of her episodes but I couldn’t bring myself to walk out. I wanted to be there for her during every stage.
She wasn’t letting me do this for her, she wasn’t allowing me to be there for her. It hurts more than anything else and I don’t know what to do.
I hated my helplessness more than I hated the fact that I could only stare at my mate after years of waiting for her.
I took the seat close to the bed and I watched her shift uncomfortably, I didn’t like the feeling one bit. I was going to do this with her slowly and I really hoped it worked out. I tried to take her hand and this time she didn’t flinch away from me.
She stared at me emotionless, as if she couldn’t care what else would happen. When I touched her, she didn’t react like she did the first time and my heart clenched. I proceeded without getting discouraged.
Not even this neutral facade would stop me from being with my mate.
__________
We already established the fact that I was the Alpha here and she wasn’t going anywhere until she understood we were mated and we would be forever. The way she stared emotionless scared the crap out of me, almost like I was dealing with a robot. I didn’t want this for her or myself, every of her acts hurt me deeper than I wanted. Never for once have I thought we would reduce to this. I didn’t know a single action of a person would turn me into a dunce. I hated this feeling of being powerless.
“You have to be present for Luna training every morning after breakfast…” Edna was speaking and Maya stood up before walking out of her sitting area and she proceed to walk towards the door. She has been acting aloof since we told her everything and everyone was hanging barely on a thin thread.
“Don’t you dare walk out on me this instant? What the hell is wrong with you? Do you think you’re the only one affected by all of this? Stop acting like a coward and get your life together.” Edna screamed and I recoiled at the way she sounded. No one deserved to be shouted at like that but Maya had been getting on everyone’s nerves. I lowkey waited for Maya’s reaction because one minute, you could tell what she would do and the next moment, she was practically unpredictable.
“How about you lead the way by getting some damn manners bitch. Don’t fucking yell at me” She replied before she walked out of the building, Edna stood up in a flash and I placed my hand over hers. She didn’t need to go after her or do anything to her. Maya was still healing and we all knew that. It was a huge change in her life and she wasn’t taking it the right way. Maybe we needed to try another routine without her getting jumbled up.
“What if Y’all are actually doing it the wrong way. This lady is new to all of these, she has known nothing but pains all her life.
She lashed out at you because you thought she would be comfortable with that emotional manipulation of the goddess knew what she was doing. Guess what?
Not everyone is a fan of the goddess and a bonus point is that she grew up in a monastery and those nuns rarely believed in the goddess. I was raised in a monastery too.
Let her breathe and take things to step by step and You’d see how much of a great result it will yield,” Daniel said and Edna turned to look at him sharply.
She looked like she wanted to rip him to shreds with her claws and the only thing he did was shrug his shoulders. Daniel wasn’t scared of anyone.
“How do I take things slowly when she’s not even giving me a chance to be with her?” I found myself asking and Daniel clicked his tongue again, he was about to give me an earful when he finishes. I know that too well. Teacher Daniel mode activated.
“Be her friend first, pretend as if you’re not mates at all. Act as if you don’t know you are going to spend the rest of your lives together and try to get to know her properly.
Allow her to trust you and let her feel the mate bond without pressure from you or anyone. If possible suspend the Luna lessons and watch her slowly warm up to you.
Tell her random things you don’t tell anyone and You’d see her trusting you gradually.” Daniel replied and I was elated, everything he listed sounded easy but it was going to take a lot of time.
If pretending as if we weren’t mated would make her trust me then I’m willing to try it out.

Jason’s POV
I lay on the shards of glass in disbelief. That little brat had pushed me down and made her escape. I wanted to burst into a scream, calling the guards to alert them but the shame overpowered me and I stayed silent.
What would they think of me! What would father say! Melissa wouldn't let me hear the end of this story!
All these thoughts ran through my head. It made me angrier. Angrier that I couldn’t do what I wanted how I wanted and all because my wolf need more training cause it was born weak!
I just lay in the shards thinking of how my whole life would be better if I wasn’t weak and how perfect it would have been. The thought turned to anger. Anger towards myself; for being born weak.
Anger towards Melissa; for being so strong and the perfect child and a threat to my position as alpha. Anger towards Maya for doing this to me!
The angrier I got, the more I needed to crush something and get all the pain out. So I clawed at the shards beside me and rolling my hands into fists, crushing the shards to tiny pieces, drawing blood from my palms. It didn’t hurt like it was supposed to. It just felt right and gave the satisfaction I needed. The anger slowly dissipated and I began to wonder where Melissa was.
She would normally have barged into the room, brooding or screaming cause father would let out his anger on her. She hadn't come yet. I looked at my wall clock and it had been an hour since she had called me.
“ I’ll just give her five more minutes.” I said to myself. Still siting on the shards.
Melissa pulled my door off its hinges as she walked in, stopping just a few paces from the doorway with a pissed glare on her face. She had obviously been cautioned by father and now, it was time for us to argue.
“ Did you or did you not understand when I said father requests your presence in the training room ? and that you could tend to your little omega later! I’ve been screamed at and threatened to be killed! Why do you do theses things to me Jason?” Melissa said with her death glare. She had the most beautiful looks in our pack but her eyes were full of death and rage. She was simply a psychopath.
Melissa stood in the door way, glaring around the room, obviously looking for me when her death glare turned to a confused stare.
“Where is the bitch?” Melissa asked, referring to Maya. “ And why are you on the floor?”
“Maya isn’t in the room. She made for the borders, if you send the guards to get her, they can catch up still.” I pushed myself off the shards, while avoiding eye contact with Melissa.
“So you let the omega escape?” Melissa tilted her head at a disturbing angle as she glared at me.
“ I didn’t let her escape, she just managed to slip pass through me.” I growled at Melissa as I pulled the shards of glass from my hands and clothes.
“ I love you brother but this baffles even me. How in heaven’s name did a little omega get past you! She’s just an omega!” Melissa raised her tone from her usual proud low tone.
“ I don’t know Mel! She took me by surprise! So please, if you’re done, get the guards and let them go after her!” I barked at Melissa but she didn’t flinch. She just rolled her eyes and gave me her signature death look and returned to her deadly low tone.
“ I love you Jason and I would do anything for you but, this is your mess. You fix it.” Melissa smiled at me. She was enjoying this.
“Get out of my room Melissa.” I growled , my head bent, trying to control my anger and not start a fight.
“ You’re gonna have to speak louder than that dear brother. I can’t hear you if you’re busy sulking with your head bent. “ Melissa said a chirpy, nice voice like a princess fairy.
“Get out! Melissa!” I barked even louder. The smile on Melissa’s face vanished and she had her death glare on.
“Father still demands your presence in the training room.” Melissa said before she turned on her heels and walked away. Leaving me to my silence and frustration.
“ I would kill Maya, even if its the last thing I do.” I said under my breath and headed to the training room.
Melissa’s POV
Jason was angry, I could tell by the way he bent his head and folded his fists till he drew more blood from his hands. I wasn’t in the mood for a fight and father was awaiting my return with productive answers. I walked out of Jason’s room to avoid another fight but I waited in the halls. If I didn’t return with Jason, I would be returned to the moon goddess. Jason seemed to be taking his sweet, sweet time.
“Any time this century would be good brother.” I said in the halls. Jason looked up at me and his eyes were angry. I raised a brow, asking if he wanted to go here and now.
Jason just looked away and made to the training room. Jason walked past me and I could feel the anger sway past as he walked past. He was literally emitting anger. I followed behind him with my proud look that everyone seemed to notice.
We got to the doors of the training room and Jason took a deep breath and exhaled. He shook his hands and stood in front of the doors, still getting ready to open them.
“Any time you’re ready.” My sarcasm dripped from my voice.
“Shut up Mel.” Jason said calmly.
“Father is the one at the other side of this door, he’s not your mate so no need to look perfect. Plus he ‘s really pissed so just get on with it.” I pushed the doors open from behind Jason and walked in.
“That took you a while Melissa.” Father’s deep voice boomed through the room.
“I’m sorry father. I’ll do better next time.” I gave father a low bow and stood by his side while Jason stood in front of father.
“Hello father.” Jason had his two hands at his back and acted like he wasn’t the guilty one here.
“Melissa was sent to get you twice. Did you not get her message the first time?” Father asked, his voice slightly louder as his veins popped. Father was mad.
“ I did get the message the first time father. Something happened and I couldn’t come on time . I’m sorry.” Ja son looked calm and collected as he stood there but we both knew that he was begging the moon goddess for this to go well.
“ Some whatever is more important than your training?” More veins bulged on father’s arm. He was getting angrier. “Do you know why we have your training sessions Jason?” Father asked Jason in a calmer tone.
“Yes father.”
“And you decided to deal with whatever you were dealing with at the expense of your training. Why?” father’s voice rose and the walls of the training room shook.
“Alpha! Control yourself!”Jason’s trainer held father’s shoulder and spoke with a firm voice and father’s wolf eyes disappeared and his human eyes were back.
“ What was this so called emergency you needed to attend to that demanded that you keep your training on hold for an hour plus?” Father looked down at Jason with a disgusted look.
“ One of the omega’s escaped and I wanted the guards to get her before she slipped past the borders?’’ Father looked at Jason’s fist, noticing the blood there.
“And was the omega captured?” Father asked with obvious disinterest in what Jason had to say.
“I didn’t. She should be gone past the borders by this time.” Jason kept his head down as he tried to explain himself to father.
“So in the end, you didn’t get the omega back and practically delayed me and your training for no tangible reason.” Father was using his low tone. He was getting ready tom pounce and Jason kept his distance.
The trainer looked at father and noticed his anger.
“ I don’t mind the child trying to sort out his issues. Even though he failed, it’s part of his training.” Jason’s trainer said.
He was the same person that trained father and all our warriors. The only difference is that he didn’t need to train them to grow their wolves or strength. He just needed to teach them how to grow the power that was already bestowed in them by the moon goddess.
Father looked from Jason to the trainer. He knew it was no use trying to take his anger out on Jason. That would only make matters worse.
“ If you insist Tyler. But we need to make sure that that omega is found and brought back. Which omega was that Jason?”
“It was Maya.” Father’s glare seemed to glare more, if that was possible.
“Training is on hold for today. Let the guards search the boundary and make sure that the omega is found. If she hasn’t reached the borders.” Father instructed.
“If that’s what you want done alpha then there’s no problem with that. I’ll get some guards to search the borders.” Tyler said as he took his weapon and put it back into it’s case. His weapon was a three feet long blade that had no particular shape. It just wasn’t normal. It looked sharp enough to split through stone and even bone.
Tyler took his sword and walked out the training room.
“We’re going to be waiting in the throne room for the report.” Father said and lead the way to the throne room.
I always loved the throne room. It reminded me of all the power and authority I had in the land as the alpha’s daughter. I loved the power. It gave me something to lord over these annoying omegas. They might have just been play toys but they were my subjects none the least. It was necessary to lord my authority over my subjects. No matter what other people thought.
We all sat in the throne room in silence for almost an hour before one of the guards walked in. I was more than relived to see him. I was getting tired of waiting and the silence was deadly and weird.
“We have a report from the search party sir.”

Alpha Asher’s pov
Maya was my mate!
This was the only thought that ran through my mind, even as I went through this hell of a meeting. Cypher has been a constant bug, running through the thin thread of my sanity, leaving me in an uncontrollable frenzy.
It was weird sitting around a conference table with people whose focus was solely on the matter at hand while my thoughts ran in a circle, skirting on likely methods to tame the wild redhead in the packhouse. Of course, I’d give the suggestions of Daniel a trial. I only hope it yields satisfactory results because right now, my patience has started to wear off; like petals of a rose flower, I was losing my resolve at a faster pace than thread by thread.
The meeting ended, and I was out as light; I needed to be somewhere other than that building. Maybe, just maybe, one peek at her lovely face would do the magic.
“Where is she?” I asked Edna as soon as I stepped foot into the packhouse.
“Define her,” Edna retorted, looking pissed as hell. Her mouth was pressed into a firm hardline, and her eyes held a glimmer of venom that wasn’t there before.
“Maya… where is she?” I questioned again.
“Oh, Maya... She should be in her room, I guess,” she replied nonchalantly.
“The fuck you’re talking about, Edna?
I left someone in your care, and you dare guess her whereabouts?” I barked, but Edna didn't flinch. “Just pray nothing happens to her and that she is still within the confines of the pack,'' I howled before storming away aggressively in search of my mate.
I got to her supposed room, and to my utter disbelief, she wasn't there. I searched the corners and her bathroom, but she wasn’t inside still.
My panic level skyrocketed, and if Cypher was roaring before, he was definitely thundering as I felt the echoes of his groans in my head.
At a much faster pace than before, I hurried to the rooms nearby, but she still wasn’t inside. I mindlinked Daniel and the rest of the guards, informing them to go in search of her while I joined them. To make matters worse, I couldn’t smell her. The more I walked, the more Maya’s scent faded. I groaned internally but continued down the staircase to the living room. At that exact moment, Daniel rushed in.
“Where is Maya?” I asked, rushing to his side like a wife whose husband had just returned from the military after five years.
“Not anywhere outside the guards across the borders had reported not to have seen her.”
“Argh,” I groaned loudly as I felt his words cut through my heart, and pain exploded like a bomb of fire in my head. I ran my hand through my hair while my stomach churned in restlessness. I’d never thrown up before, but I imagined this was the feeling you get before it happened. I took a shaky, calm breath, trying to put myself together before facing everyone.
Vomit be damned, I fucking felt like I would cry. I felt prickling behind my eyes, warning me that I was on the verge of tears. This was the first time I wished I wasn’t the alpha because being alpha meant I couldn’t cry in front of people
“Hey, calm down,” Daniel cooed, patting me on my left shoulder. “It’s all going to be fine. I think she is within. Let’s have a look inside.”
“ I already did, but….” I stopped talking when I caught sight of red curtails at the back of one of the couches.
“But what?” Daniel inquired, but I shunned his question and continued to walk towards the figure. Daniel trailed behind me skeptically.
I felt the air in my windpipe gush out as I took in the view before me. Behind the couch was Maya, curled into a ball, her red hair framed her face. Faint whimpers left her mouth, and her body shook even in her sleep.
I again swore by the moon goddess to avenge whoever made her so fragile. I moved closer to her statue and picked her up. Her whimpering got louder, but she didn't open her eyes, and I also didn’t drop her.
Daniel made way for us to pass, and I did it gently, carefully so that our movement didn't wake her up.
I took her up to her room, seething like a mad dog. I didn’t want to wake her up, but I couldn’t bear seeing her like that. She somehow stirred on my arms and used her hands to wrap around my neck. She nuzzled her head in the crook of my neck, which somehow slurped every bit of anger I felt. I pulled her closer to me like a second skin. The gesture made her eyes flutter open.
"No, you cannot take me up. I will be punished gravely if they find me upstairs. I'll be forced to walk on burning coal. Drop me," she whimpered and kicked while trying to break away from my hold.
"No one is going to punish you. You are here with me," I said and held her still.
“Asher? Her sweet tiny caramel voice chirped weakly. Her oceanblue doe eyes opened wider as she took me in.
“Yes, Maya,” I replied.
“Please don’t let them catch me. I don’t want to go back there. They will hurt me.”
“I promise, I won't let them hurt you, baby. Trust me. You are safe with me. They will have to pass through me to get to you."
I got stuck between carrying her to the bed and holding her in my arms. Sure, I have no issue holding her up. She weighs less than a feather, but I needed her to be comfortable. I looked at her again, and she was already fast asleep again. Her neck was slightly bent to fit into my neck, and since I didn't want her waking up with muscular pain, I decided to drop her on the bed.
I couldn't fucking believe she was made to walk on burning coal. I felt rage pulsated through my veins at the mere thought of her walking on burning coals for reasons as trivial as sleeping on a bed. On impulse, I checked her feet, and true to her words, scars from burnt were indeed under her feet
"Goddammit," I groaned between clenched teeth.
I forced myself to take calm breaths, and with no other idea to help myself remain calm, I climbed onto the bed with her and stroked her hair. Once again, she nuzzled into me why I flung my arm around her and pulled her closer to me, allowing her scent and warmth to overshadow my anger. I must have laid there for several hours before finally drifting off into a restless sleep.
When I woke, the realization that Maya wasn't in bed hit me harder than it normally should.
Did she have a bad dream of someone punishing her in bed, and that's why she left?
My mind wandered like that for a bit before I stormed outside and saw her sitting in the living room—opposite Daniel and Edna.
Edna looked serious, almost bored, while Daniel looked like Daniel—flustered and cheerful.
I heaved a sigh
"Hey, Maya," I called sweetly, but she glared at me.
Awe. I felt the love
"What?" She snapped at me, and my wolf sighed, content in hearing our mate's voice.
Where did all the cuteness and bodytouching of the early hours of today go?
Bro, it is pathetic, but according to Daniel, if I must yield good results in our relationship, I must learn to travail in patience and tolerance.
I sighed too, and Edna chuckled.
______________
Everything in me was telling me to run after her. To chase her down, make her see my reasons, but I knew that wouldn't work with her. Forcing Maya to do anything would only further push her far away for the opposite reason.
She had been telling me from the beginning that she needed space, so I planned on giving it to her.
First day, second day, and now the third day.
It felt like dying a slow death, but we both needed it—her to think and me to get my shits together.
I walked into the packhouse because I wanted to see her and not because I wanted to talk to my beta and zeta like I claimed—that was my silly excuse to see her one more time for the night.
"You called us," Daniel started when we were all seated on the threeseater couch in the packhouse living room.
"Yeah, I did," I answered bemusedly.
"Why?" Edna flared. For reasons unknown to me, she's been acting weird lately. Always on the tip of her tolerance if you ask me.
I opened my mouth to speak, but my words disappeared in my throat when Maya suddenly appeared out of nowhere, looking fresh and clean. Her thin flawless legs were left on display, and so also was her belly button. She was wearing a sporty nude color with green striped Nike shorts and a matching crop tank top.
The urge to run my tongue across her belly button was overwhelming. I became speechless as I watched her form. I swallowed and swallowed until there was no more saliva in my mouth. I wanted to hold her in my arms, but I refrained from touching her. Hell, my look was subtle because I didn't want to be caught or to come off as too strong. I struggled to keep my face neutral, but that didn't stop her from eyeing me curiously. Or maybe the rising dough inbetween my legs was what made her hesitant.
"When you're down gawking at her and ready to talk, you can call me. I'm off," said Edna irritably, stood up, and began to walk her quarters.
I cleared my throat, and that made her stop. "I was about to send for Maya because what I have to say concerns her, but since she's here, I'll go ahead " my words captured Maya's attention, and she turned to look at me.
"What did I do this time?" She snarled.
"I think the right question is what am I about to do this time," I said, emphasizing the last eight words of my sentence.
"I don't understand," Maya replied, looking at me as though she was searching for something in my eyes.
"Neither do I," Daniel chirped in, looking truly confused for the first time since I had known him.
There's always a first time for everything
"I'm allowing Maya to leave," I said, and everywhere turned serene. Not even the sound of our heartbeat was heard.
"You might have to say that again. I don't think I heard you clearly the first time," Daniel said and shifted on his seat as though something suddenly stung him in his butts.
"Since Maya came into the royal pack, her greatest wish hadn't wavered—her desire to leave had been so strong.
And now, I'm granting her wish. " I turned to Maya and said, "you can let me know when you want to leave or not, but I want you to be safe, so I'd appreciate it if you let me know when you'd leave.
And if it doesn't seem like crowding your space, I spoke to some of our allied packs, and they agreed to let you come live with them.
I want you to be safe—they are allies, so you should be safe" I finished my spiel, and they all looked astonished, especially Maya. Litany of other emotions danced across her face, but I couldn't quite decipher what it was.
"Asher!" Daniel's voice cut through in anger making everyone but myself and Edna flinch. "This wasn't what we agreed on," he further seethed.
"I know. But anything else, I want Maya to be happy. I'll be a dick of an Alpha and a mate if I make her wither instead of making her glow and grow," I said, and a snicker from Edna greeted us all.
"Oops, sorry. It's just funny. Since when did you become a poet? WTF, Ash?" Another snicker erupted from Edna's mouth, but she did quick work to end it.
"Can you guys please leave us alone?" Maya's little voice suddenly sounded heavy with authority and need? "Can we talk, please?" She asked quietly after Edna and Daniel left.

Alpha Asher's pov
Maya didn't look as happy as I expected her to be.
Right from the first day she stepped foot into our pack as a rogue, her only greatest desire that she had made known to us repeatedly; even until It became her walking siren, like a reminder to us all and most especially to me, was the fact that she hated being my mate and wanted to "explore the world while belonging to no one" as she put it, living the way she wants.
I thought taking Daniel's idea would help build a relationship with Maya, no matter how long it takes but she had this wall so strong around her and I feared not even I could bring it down or gain her trust.
So I decided to do what I believed was right, I believed it was best to let her go and let her live her life to the fullest, she insisted she wanted it instead of letting me keep her in my pack.
If I forced her, it would make it seem like I was caging her since she didn't want to stay... The other best option was to let her go.
Funny thing was that I still understood her, even though I had known her for quite a short time.
I understood her to want to belong to no one, her desire to go wherever she wanted because growing up in a monastery made me understand and gave me the ability to relate to half of what she had gone through; the pain, the torture, the hatred for the moon goddess and her parents that abandoned her for no reason only to make her suffer.
So I was going to let her go if that's what she so much wants for herself because I wouldn't want to be a part of the people she hates forever. Even though deep down, I wanted to feel that feeling called love and be loved by someone too.
Once Edna and Daniel left, I met her eyes with my gaze and I was surprised to see the fear and plea in hers.
She was silently begging me not to let her leave because her pride wouldn't let her speak, "I'm not ready to leave" she said with an empty voice, trying to sound tough but I still caught her eyes before she got rid of any sign of emotion that was there.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, this was a hard nut to crack; a tough case to solve. "You said you want to be free so that's what I'm doing for you Maya, letting you go" I replied and she looked at me angrily but her eyes were shaky like she was panicking.
"So you'll just let me go? After saving me? After making me believe that there may be kind people in this life?" She yelled with her voice sounding like she was close to tears.
"That's not why I'm letting you go, Maya…" I tried explaining to her but then she interrupted, her voice filled with anger "fuck you, Asher if no one's ever told you I'm going to say it to your stupid face!
You are a shitty Alpha, Alphas don't run from problems, they don't shift responsibilities. Instead, they tackle it themselves but look at you, you want to let me go because I refuse to be your mate. After all, I refuse to belong to you.
Well, news flash Alpha fucking Asher, that's what happens to someone who's been traumatized and tortured her whole life, I face reality and see things for what they are because life has never been a bed of roses for me so don't expect me to open up to you at once like you're some knight in shiny armor.
Anyone can be a villain" she stopped and took a long breath but I was even too stunned to speak, I just sat there staring at this woman that had just put me in my place.
People hardly put me in my place in this pack because not to brag but most times I'm right so not even Edna or Daniel put me in my place except they believed it was necessary and that hadn't happened in a long time now.
Then I understood why the moon goddess chose her for me, I thought Edna was something else but Maya was more than that… she was was feisty and I could see the fire in her eyes from her burning rage… she feared no one "you see this" she added gesturing between the two of us "it can't work, we can't work so I guess rejecting you had bruised your ego and now you want to let me back out there into those dens you call packs" she finished and slowly stood up, her eyes still on mine till she was now standing above me "it was nice meeting you Alpha Asher, I'll leave your pack now.
You should pay me for those clues I gave you too" she spat every word at me with venom and stormed out heading towards her room.
I didn't know what to do, I just sat there looking dumbfounded after Maya had just given me the lecture of my life. I was even more confused and didn't understand it all. Was I meant to keep on trying with her until she opened up to me?
Was telling her she had a choice to leave for another better pack a mistake on my part? That was what she wanted though. I groaned and threw my head back to ease the incoming headache but it wasn't helping.
This was serious, far more than I thought it was. Maya was strongwilled, stubborn, and held her pride dear to herself; even after all she had gone through in her former pack.
So I knew nothing else would make her waver, this was little compared to what she had experienced all her life. Suddenly Cypher started getting agitated in my head and I
I got the message immediately.
What Maya needed was someone that would try and place him or herself in her situation and see eye to eye with her… understand why suddenly changing packs was making her lose her temper.
She needed someone to calm her down and probably change her mind about leaving. I only brought the option for her to leave but considering where she was coming from, she took it like I was asking her to leave and I realized I shouldn't have done that.
Cypher nudged me on to quickly do something, I sighed before standing up to find Maya wherever she went to.
I searched everywhere I suspected she would be but didn't find her but I wasn't going to give up though, I stopped for a while to think then it occurred to me that I didn't check her room.
I quickly raced there and knocked on her door before stepping in.
Everything was everywhere… in disarray and she was packing the things we bought for her during her stay into a bag aggressively, it was obvious that she was still furious. "Go away," she said in a low voice and sniffed before she quickly wiped her eyes.
I was behind her but I saw it, I couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
I shrugged and stepped forward while she still shoved clothes into the bag "I can't, not while you're still mad at me" I replied and she froze before she turned and faced me.
Streaks of tears were evident on her face and her eyes were puffy already "I said… go away!" She repeated more firmly this time "you don't have to go, Maya, I won't force you to leave, this place is also your home too" I said and she grabbed a pillow then flung it at me "leave me alone Asher, just get out" she screamed this time and threw the other pillows on the bed at me one after the other.
I quickly went closer to her and held her hands gently to calm her down but she struggled with every strength and lord knew she was really strong, even for me the king Alpha.
I pulled her closer and hugged her hoping this would help calm her down then I caught a wisp of her scent and I couldn't help but drag it in… It was intoxicating and calming.
She felt tiny and rather fragile in my arms even though she was still trying to fight me off her.
I realized I was enjoying this because it was better than the awkward way she always caught me gawking or staring at her whenever I got distracted or entranced by her.
It was better than the times she just stared at me blankly and never gave any reaction to whatever I said to her… it always made me feel like a fool, being the one she chose to always ignore.
I felt I'd rather squabble with her all the time than have no relationship with her, seeing her angry was also a display of emotion and it was better than nothing.
I smiled and nuzzled my face in between her neck and shoulder "you don't have to leave if you don't want to" I whispered trying to soothe her.
Instead, she shoved me off her with a hard push and it sent me only a few feet back "don't you dare touch me again" she warned and grabbed her bag filled with her things then flung it at me.
I quickly caught it and growled before pushing her against the wall.
If she didn't want it the gentle way then I was going to go rough her.
It was Cypher that was controlling me now, my wolf eyes now showing and staring hard at her with an intensity that she shivered and looked away from my eyes "so you think you've got the temper?" I roared but she didn't reply.
I grabbed her face by the chin then forced her to look up at me. At that moment, the air shifted between us.
The room wasn't hot but I felt hot, Maya's eyes were wide and my gaze moved to her lips… they were apart too and she was breathing hard just like I was.
I suddenly felt the urge to kiss her, to mark her and make her mine. "Maya" I growled as my gaze remained on her lips, I was trying to control myself but her scent and wet lips were messing with my head.
"Someone is losing himself uh?" She teased and smirked and that almost broke the last straw for Cypher but I quickly held him back, "don't tempt me, Maya, cause you don't wanna know what I'm thinking and all the things I could do you right now, right here" I snarled, our faces now few inches away from each other and I heard the tiny gasp that escaped her mouth.
It was my turn to smirk because I knew she could feel it too… this tension between us, in this proximity "now who is losing herself?" I teased back and she scowled at me.
I couldn't help but laugh as I released my hold on her and stepped back, that was the cutest I had ever seen her and it was something I wouldn't mind seeing every day.
I knew she was expecting something to happen between us but I wasn't going to do that.
She deserved more and I believed in falling in love and getting to know someone before getting intimate, so I was going to gain Maya's trust and love before we did anything.
I read her report after she was scanned at the hospital when she got to our pack and knew she was raped and I was aware of how traumatizing it would be for her mentally.
I still wanted her and I was going to make her realize she was worth more than that, I was going to give her the life and love she deserved.

Angrier that I couldn’t do what I wanted how I wanted and all because my wolf needed more training cause it was born weak!
It just felt right and gave me the satisfaction I needed.
Still sitting on the shards.
Melissa pulled my door off its hinges as she walked in, stopping just a few paces from the doorway with a pissed glare on her face.
She had obviously been cautioned by father and now, it was time for us to argue.
“Did you or did you not understand when I said father requests your presence in the training room ? and that you could tend to your little omega later! I’ve been screamed at and threatened to be killed! Why do you do these things to me Jason?”
Melissa said with her death glare. She had the most beautiful looks in our pack but her eyes were full of death and rage. She was simply a psychopath.
Melissa stood in the doorway, glaring around the room, obviously looking for me when her death glare turned to a confused stare.
“Where is the bitch?” Melissa asked, referring to Maya. “ And why are you on the floor?”
“Maya isn’t in the room. She made for the borders, if you send the guards to get her, they can still catch up.” I pushed myself off the shards, while avoiding eye contact with Melissa.
“So you let the omega escape?” Melissa tilted her head at a disturbing angle as she glared at me.
“ I didn’t let her escape, she just managed to slip past me.” I growled at Melissa as I pulled the shards of glass from my hands and clothes.
“ Melissa said in a chirpy, nice voice like a princess fairy.
“Get out! Melissa!” I barked even louder. The smile on Melissa’s face vanished and she had her death glare on.
“Father still demands your presence in the training room.” Melissa said before she turned on her heels and walked away. Leaving me to my silence and frustration.
“ I would kill Maya, even if it's the last thing I do.” I said under my breath and headed to the training room.
Jason just looked away and went to the training room.
I’m sorry.” Jason looked calm and collected as he stood there but we both knew that he was begging the moon goddess for this to go well.
“ Some whatever is more important than your training?” More veins bulge on father’s arm. He was getting angrier.
“Do you know why we have your training sessions Jason?” Father asked Jason in a calmer tone.
“Yes father.”
“And you decided to deal with whatever you were dealing with at the expense of your training. Why?
Father's voice rose and the walls of the training room shook.
“Alpha! Control yourself!”Jason’s trainer held father’s shoulder and spoke with a firm voice and father’s wolf eyes disappeared and his human eyes were back.
“ What was this socalled emergency you needed to attend to that demanded that you keep your training on hold for an hour plus?” Father looked down at Jason with a disgusted look.
“So in the end, you didn’t get the omega back and practically delayed me and your training for no tangible reason.”
Father was using his low tone. He was getting ready to pounce and Jason kept his distance.
I’ll get some guards to search the borders.”
Tyler said as he took his weapon and put it back into it’s case.
I was more than relieved to see him. I was getting tired of waiting and the silence was deadly and weird.
“We have a report from the search party sir.”

Maya’s pov
There are two reasons why I don't like the whole mating and marking idea.
First, is the strong pull you feel towards the other Person and two is the underlying concept of submission. Completely giving myself and trusting in someone scared me more than I let on. I’ve been broken before. The truth is I’m scared of being broken again.
Adrenaline was coursing through my veins as I took a few hesitant steps toward Asher. The fact that he had taken a shower before coming to the dining room didn't help either. He smelled fresh and clean. Immediately, his scent overcame my senses and I breathed in sharply to take it in all. It was husky and somewhat strong yet sweet and sharp in a delicious way and the abundance of it made my knees grow weak.
My gaze fell on his huge figure and I couldn’t help but travel a little back in time. The feel of his body pressed against mine…
I swear this man is pure lava. He wore a white tshirt that contrasted to his skin color and hugged every muscle in his upper body. The sleeve firmly captured his arms muscles and his veins popped with every movement he made.
His sweatpants were grey and tight, showing his powerful legs and figures, not to mention his pants hung dangerously low on his buttock bride which sent a ripple of foreign emotion through my veins.
He was hot in the Christian grey kind of way with stubbles and crew cut jet black hair.
“May I?” he asked, pointing to the variety of dishes on the dining table. Edna had insisted on going all out. There were eggs, bacon, waffles, toast, sandwiches, pancakes, milk, cream, Nutella, banana, and some strawberries.
“Yes,” I breathed out, my voice coming out barely above a whisper.
“Thank you,'' he muffled before filling his plate with pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs and when I thought he was done stuffing his plate, he grabbed the Nutella bar and strawberry bowl and pulled them to his front.
“That’s a lot” I gently scolded him.
“I know right? A man has got to eat to keep fit” he replied without tearing his gaze off from his plate while I stared in awe. He did this thing where he dipped a strawberry inside the Nutella bar then whipped cream and flipped his tongue, sucked, bit, and chewed that one act sent by heart beating a thousand times in a second. It was insanely hot.
A gasp left my mouth but I quickly covered it with a fake cough. He smirked. The fucking bastard smirked. Maybe, just maybe he was doing it on purpose to see my reaction. Well, if he wants to play games, I’d very much indulge him.
“you haven’t touched your food since I got here. Are you not hungry or is my presence a bother to you?” he asked. His raspy voice brought a blush to my face since he was the only one that had ever bothered to ask about my appetite.
The truth is, I’ve mastered eating just a little, regardless of the quantity or variety of food I was served, courtesy of my former. Back there, we were only allowed to feed once a day and that was only in the afternoon.
Most times, we eat half of whatever we are served and leave the rest for the evening…breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they say but was never applicable to us.
The only slaves’ opportune to eat breakfast were the ones that did the morning dishes, whatever scrub remained was officially thetes, but of course, you would pray to not get caught.
“I’m not hungry, “ I simply replied. He looked like he wanted to press further but for some reason, his words never came out. He only shrugged and continued to savor his food.
Suddenly he growled slightly before dropping his cutleries on the table. Curiosity got the best of me and I asked. “What is wrong?” I questioned, teeth tugging on my bottom lips.
Only he did not answer me, which hurts because I had expected him to. Asher wordlessly stormed past me, a look of pure fury clouding his gaze. If I hadn’t known better I would have faulted his change of attitude to myself I knew better. This was Alpha fucking Asher. My psyche lord.
Approaching heavy footsteps made me lookup. It was Edna running down the stairs like the roof was on fire. I instantly stood up. “what is going on?” I asked but neither fuming Asher nor worriedlooking Edna answered me. “I’m talking to you fuckers…fucking answer me” I snarled but that was all it was to them…an empty snarl.
“under no fucking condition should you leave her side, I’ll go over and see things for myself,” Asher said hurriedly, before walking to the door. He stopped a few steps away from the exit and walked_jogged back to me.
I never imagined what he did next. He bent down to my head level and planted a slippery lingering peck on my forehead.
Without giving me time to comprehend what he had just done, he picked my hands from my side and gave them a small but firm squeeze. “Please, for this one time don’t be stubborn and do what I say okay?” he whispered.
I nodded in affirmation and he was gone like he was never here.
“What the hell is going on?” I turned to face Edna.
“nothing much … just some baseless rumors hovering around town” she answered
I laughed. I laughed so hard that I doubled over.
“That’s the shit of an excuse, is what you can come up with? And you expect me to buy it? Really, Edna?” I inquired, all previous traces of humor gone from my face.
“No I expected you to chew on it” she replied with the same words I used on her in our previous encounter and I scowled “That face of yours won’t work on me young wolf. So I advise you to sit your ass down and chill. Ten minutes of awkward silence passed between us and it felt like ages since Asher left. I tried so many times to mind link him but it just wouldn’t connect.
“gosh! This is so fucking frustrating. I want to…” Edna cut me off after she must have read my mind.
Edna shook her head “mm..mm you aren’t allowed to leave my sight”
“Who said anything about leaving your side?” I asked and Edna arched a brow questioningly. “we could go together. Asher never said anything about not leaving the packhouse after all…and I will be stuck with you all the time”
Edna shrugged then offered a smile, undoubtedly pleased with my idea... “What do you say to shopping then right after Starbucks or Mcdonald’s?” she asked sweetly.
“uh, I know what shopping is but I don’t know what you mean by Starbucks and Mcdonald’s. isn’t that supposed to be a name or a place?”
Her eyes widened in shock. Edna laughed but there was nothing malicious or condescending in the sound. “That's insane! You mean you’ve never eaten at Starbucks or Mcdonald’s? she asked, surprised.
“so, it’s a place I wasn’t entirely wrong” I chuckled but I stopped when something snapped in my brain. “Are you by any chance referring to the place where those insanely nice pizzas, fries, doughnuts, and chicken nuggets are sold?”
“Yeah,” she grimaced. “So you've been there?”
“nope” I replied popping the p
“Okay, but you’ve eaten their products?”
“It depends on your definition of eaten”
“What do you mean?”
“uh…” I restricted from speaking for a while but the look on Edna’s face assured me to continue.” Jason and Mellisa often come back home with these fancy leather bags and other times paper bags and disposable plastic cups with the inscription Mcdonald’s written on some and Starbucks written on some.
And I also usually hear Jason give orders to his drivers to get coffee from Starbucks… and yeah, I might have taken a little taste from their numerous leftovers" I answered nonchalantly but truthfully.
"You mean you never owned a full box of McDonald's treasure?" Edna asked, still surprised.
"Does the leftover bags count?"
Edna rolled her eyes."Fuck! How exactly were you treated in your former pack?"
"Worse than the archangel Micheal treated satan"
"What's that?"
"Never mind".
" Go change your clothes, we are going out".
"Right on it, mama bear" I answered with a giggle and jogged my way up to my bedroom. My initial thought of worry and panic over Asher's whereabouts were suddenly gone and replaced with ecstasy.
In a few minutes, I find myself in the passenger seat of Edna's car. A sleek Burgundy convertible. I've always loved the feeling of the wind slapping my face. I prop up on the passenger seat, switching between carelessly throwing my hands up in the air and sticking my head out.
We had not told anyone that we left and so far, it seemed nobody had noticed that we were gone. I still wondered what it was that Asher had to attend to with so much alacrity. As we ventured further and further away from the confines of the royal pack, I felt a strain on my stomach that was churning on me to go back.
At first, the feeling was mild, but it soon grew and consumed my thoughts and body. Everything in my body was screaming for me to go back to the territory but I ignored the feeling and continued to bask in the glory of my first in a long while trip.
Edna, who had been singing to the song yummy by Justin Bieber, suddenly stopped midverse.
The abruptness caught my attention and I turned in her direction. "What is it?" I gingerly asked.
It took a while before her response came. "Asher just mindlinked me. He is back at the packhouse and aware that we are gone. He wants us to come back to the pack right this minute. He said it is dangerous for you to be out"
"Well thank God everything has to do with me. Tell him I'm fine and that I can take care of myself" I replied. Somehow the previous words of Asher to me came playing in my head but I pushed them away from my head.
please, for this one time don’t be stubborn and do what I say okay?
Edna glanced around at all of the surrounding trees and bushes as we cruised on the winding rural road. "Maybe we should head back and have one of the guards get it for us. Earlier a report came from our spies that your whereabouts have been known by the blood moon pack….." Suddenly Edna's eyes numbed and her eyes clenched shut, grasping a fistful of her hair, she groaned out loud and cussed. I've never seen a thing like this before.
"Edna, what is happening to you?" I questioned frantically. The car was already zigzagging and I had no idea how to control the steering. Edna was still seated in the driver's seat.
"Please make this stop," I said to no one in particular.
Edna eventually stopped writhing and squirming awfully.
"What was that all about?" I asked when she was a bit calmer.
"A taste of what the Alpha has in store for me" she gasped out in agony.
Immediately guilt washed over me like a tidal wave and I thought of a way to swerve us away from the mess I created. "let us go back.."
Edna was turning before the words were out of my mouth, the same time, a truck was coming from our back. "Watch out" I yelled but it was too late. I cursed and let my reflexes take over. The sound of tires screeching and metal crunching filled my ears until subsequently when the world blurred out from my vision.
Everything went black as commotion followed. The car flipped over and stopped in its back —Edna and I dangling from our seat belts. My vision blurred but I could hear Edna's faint voice calling to me. I could neither respond nor move.
Suddenly, a furious raging roar surged from the woods nearby and my collapsing body jerked from recognition before everything finally turned black and tranquil.
