Anyone would think that waking up to people screaming their names would get easier since they'd probably wake up to it every day for the rest of their lives.
It didn’t. I would know because I experienced it firsthand and for seventeen years.
“OLIVIA?!”
Seventeen years later and I was still experiencing it.
I stretched my legs and got out of bed. It was a routine I was used to.
They would scream and I would attend to their needs.
I listened for footsteps and immediately heard one. I straightened up and faced the door.
Only a few seconds later did the door open and I was met with my glorious brother's cocky smile. His arms were folded, and an arrogant look shone on his face. His body posture exuded the hatred he felt for me even though I was his sister.
“Breakfast isn’t set and the pack will soon wake.” He continued to stare at me in the most condescending manner I always associated with him.
My anger rose and I restrained it. My anger never did any good.
My back stung, the scars on it a reminder of the punishment I faced for defying him.
He had no manners and I had no strength. But at least he had a title that carried power and I was nothing.
Regardless of what I said, I was on the receiving side of the punishment so my words didn't matter.
“Right away,” I said. He stared at me before walking off. That was his way of reminding me about the punishment I would receive if breakfast was even a minute late. I started moving as soon as I could because if my mom got here, she wouldn’t use words.
I threw on the first clothing my hand landed on and made my way to the kitchen.
Clara, the only person I could call a friend in this entire pack, was already in front of the stove, mixing eggs.
“Hey, Olivia.” She called as a form of greeting. I walked up to her, hugged her, and took the bowl from her.
“Hey, mama. How’s the leg?” I asked, looking at the leg in question.
Clara's left leg got amputated during the last pack's attack.
Surprisingly, my father got the faerie doctor to craft a new one for her. To say Clara and I were surprised would be an understatement since we both knew how cruel my father could be.
Clara had laughed and said it was probably because my father always enjoyed the meals she prepared and didn't want to have another person cook for him. I didn't believe it.
But whatever the reason, Clara and I were grateful to him.
“It’s a bit weird, but it's starting to feel more natural.” She answered, tweaking the leg about a little to prove her point.
“That’s fae magic for you,” I said with a smile.
Clara clicked her tongue, pointing at the eggs. “The Alpha said scrambled eggs, so be sure to use the recipe he likes the most.” She told me and went to get the other meals ready.
I finished up the eggs and started with the bacon.
With the collaboration between Clara and I, we were able to finish breakfast in less than an hour. Good for us since that meant there was no reason for us to get punished early in the morning. But since the day had only just begun, there was a possibility that we could do something that would offend the higherups.
If we were really careful though, we weren't supposed to receive any punishments unless the young wolves decided to move mad like they did most of the time.
Clara rang the bell, signaling the servants and they all rushed in.
If I had been the one who rang that bell, the servants would not have arrived at such a short time.
Despite my father being the beta’s assistant and my brother being the deputy general, the servants still showed me no respect. Maybe it was because they knew my family hated me, so when Hannah pushed me aside to grab a tray of bacon, I did not mind.
Clara opened her mouth to speak and I placed a hand on her shoulder. They weren’t worth it.
Besides, reprimanding them didn't mean that they would change. I rolled my eyes when Hannah threw me a snotty glance. Clara tapped me, pointing at a tray of wine.
“Can you help me carry that in?” She asked. "Juan is sick, his mom just called me.”
“Anything for you, Clara,” I told and she gave me a sweet smile.
“You like to sweet talk me, Oivia,” Clara said and her smile turned into a full beam.
“Only because you deserve it,” I said as I picked up the tray. Then I winked at her before I made for the door.
I made my way to the luncheon hall, dropping the tray on an empty spot. Gillian, my brother, picked up one of the glasses without looking at me.
“The siege was successful. We met no difficulties.” My brother told the people on the table.
One wolf in a soldier outfit made a crude comment, launching the table into laughter. I shook my head internally, going to stand by a corner. That was the exact moment the Alpha walked in, along with my father and some other members of the pack. My dad gave me a sparse glance before he went to sit next to the beta. I sighed, looking at a space in the ceiling.
“They made scrambled eggs, your honor.” I didn’t have to look to know it was Kole who had just spoken.
She was the slut males went to when they needed a quick fuck. I just didn’t know the Alpha fucked with her untill now. The Alpha ran a hand down her spine, smiling.
“You told them. For that I am grateful.” He said before moving his hands away.
I must have not masked my disgust in time because the beta was in front of me before I could blink. His eyes were rumored to be ice, but I underestimated their cold gaze. They were like the ice forge frozen on a lake, a little crack and one could sink in, forever lost to the depth of the water it covered. I shivered a little under the cold stare.
“Lift your gown.” He commanded.
"What?" I asked, baffled. I was sure I heard the wrong words from him.
“Lift…up…your…gown.” He repeated, stretching each word more than necessary. I looked at him and saw his eyes daring me to disobey him. I thought about disobeying him, but then I realized that he was the beta, and disobeying an order from the beta might not just end in a punishment. I could lose my life over it. I bit my teeth as I lifted my gown. Those icy eyes dropped to my crotch.
Please don’t touch me. Please don’t touch me. I began to chant in my head.
“Isn’t this your daughter, Ferno?” I heard him ask my father. My eyes snapped to my dad and the look on his face broke my heart.
“She is not mine. She is my cousin's bastard daughter.” My father replied to the beta with a shrug.
The beta cupped my chin and forced me to look at him. “She seems to think differently.” He told my father.
“Do with her what you must.” My dad said with a dismissive wave of his hand.
“Oh, I intend to teach her manners.” The beta responded. The Alpha made a sound with his glass.
“Take her away. Some of us don’t appreciate a show while eating.” The Alpha said as a warning and the omega bursted into laughter.
“Speak for yourself, Kian.” The omega told the Alpha.
“You are welcome to follow them, Zayn.” The Alpha snapped back, but the omega just went on laughing.
The beta chuckled and looked back at me.
“Drop your gown and wait here.” He told me. I schooled my features to reflect nothing of what I felt as he walked back to sit next to the Alpha. Hannah slid up to me and I held in the urge to smack the bitch.
“You are so lucky. I heard the beta has the ultimate dick game.” She told me with a naughty smile and I gave her a blank stare. “You don’t want to fuck the beta?” She sounded baffled, but with Hannah, you never know. I looked away and ran smack into the omega’s stare.
“Can I join though?” He asked me. He said it in a very low voice, but everyone probably heard it with their wolf ears anyway.
"No," I responded in a loud voice, not caring if I got punished for refusing someone of a higher status. Hannah smacked my upper arm.
“Shut up! You are so fucking lucky, girl.” She told me and looked at me like I should be grateful I had two horny wolves who were hoping to get a piece of me on my back.
“You in grey, can I get another plate of bacon?” Gillian held up a plate in Hannah’s direction and she tugged on her gray sash.
“You give me deets later,” Hannah told, before she hurried away.

I rolled my eyes internally as she walked off and I let my gaze drift to the ceiling. These were the times I wish I had my wolf. I could feel her presence and do anything any normal werewolf could, but I had never once heard from her. I wondered why I'd never been able to communicate with my wolf.
The truth was, I didn't know why either. But I knew that my mom hated me for that specifically.
A hand gripped my forearm, sending me out of my thinking zone. I looked at whoever had gripped my arm and saw that it was the omega.
“Come with me.” He said softly. His eyes were warmer than that of the beta, but I wasn’t fooled. The devil lived in the heat too.
“Where’s The beta?” I asked and he just laughed as he pulled me along the hall.
“Eager to fuck him instead?” He finally asked when we were out of the hearing shot of the others.
“I don’t want either of you,” I answered him with little fear.
“You have sass. I like that.” He said and threw me a glance over his shoulder. “I can’t wait to fuck it out of you.” He finished with a smirk.
“If I refuse, isn’t that like rape?” I asked him and he gave me a sly grin.
“We can also knock you out. But trust me, you wouldn’t refuse.” He told me.
Cocky much? I thought. Men like him needed to be taken down a few pages.
He stopped in front of a door and pushed it open. The beta was on the bed, reading a novel.
“She has more sass than you think.” The omega told him immediately we were in.
“I am not surprised. Her eyes hold fire.” He said and looked up from the book he was reading. I shivered again under his gaze. It was like his eyes got colder every time I looked into them.
“She happens to think she doesn’t want to fuck us.” The omega said again.
“Also, not surprised.” The beta said and smiled faintly, giving me a shock.
“I didn’t know you smiled,” I told the beta. The omega laughed, pushing me forward.
“I like your mouth, little one.” The beta cupped my face and I held in the urge to shiver. “You are his daughter, aren’t you?” I nodded and pulled my face out of his grip.
“It is not a big deal,” I told them. I watched as the omega took a seat by the edge of the bed.
“That’s a shame, little one.” He said and I shrugged. I gripped the hem of my gown when the beta came closer.
“We are not going to have sex with you, Olivia. We are going to send you on a little mission.” I blinked at the beta who simply smirked.
“Your father owes us a lot of money, sweetheart.”
The omega nodded in agreement, a sly smile on his face. “Emphasis on a lot of money.” He chuckled.
I shook my head, stepping back. Although my father was a lot of things, I never knew him to be a debtor.
“My father is not a debtor!” I shouted at them both.
The omega winced and patted the space next to him.
“Take a seat, darling. You are going to burst a vessel if you keep doing that.” He told me. I blinked at his gentle tone and warm gaze. Tempting as it was, I ignored his offer.
“How on earth could my father owe you a lot of money?” I asked and the beta laughed, dropping the book in his hands in the process.
“He has a gambling problem,” The omega revealed to me and he chuckled at my large rounded eyes.
I thought about it for a minute and then shrugged the new knowledge about the man away.
Whatever he was, a murderer, a gambler.. It had nothing to do with me.
I looked at the two men in front of me and shrugged again. There was no way I was helping them with anything even if they crawled on their knees to beg.
However, I didn't want to be punished so for courtesy's sake, I asked them how they needed my help.
"What do you want me to do for you both?" I asked them.
“We want you to sneak into his office or his study or wherever he keeps his important stuff and get us some documents.” The beta replied.
“I don’t even know where that is. My brother would have been a better option.” I announced it to them.
Truly, my brother was the better option between both of us. When the omega scoffed and rolled his eyes, I got the idea that they already tried with him and failed.
“Your brother is a loyal asshole and he can’t keep a secret to save his life.” The beta said.
“He can. He is the most trustworthy person I know. He is one of the pack members that holds the family in higher regard than the pack.” I told them.
"Please." The omega pleaded. I shook my head and looked at my feet.
“You can’t trust me with this. If I get caught, my back is going to suffer again.” I told them. My scars twitched as if to remind me of the pains it had suffered in the past and I tried to touch it.
“Take off that gown. Family feuds or not, abuse is not allowed.” The omega said in a lethal voice and I stepped back.
“This is not any of our business, Zayn.” The beta said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
“You know how the last case ended. You can’t tell me you would let a pack member die at the hands of a family again.” The omega shouted at the beta.
“Zayn, we don’t know..” The beta tried to say.
“Fucking take off that gown now, Olivia.” The omega said, cutting into the beta's words.
I was surprised that the omega knew my name. True, they should know the name of everyone in the pack, but since I was absent from the pack most of the time, I didn't expect them to know mine.
When I didn't take off the gown in time, I heard the omega's wolf groaning and the beta warned me about how feral the man's wolf was.
I quickly took off the gown to avoid it being shredded into tiny pieces. I didn't miss the flash of heat in their eyes when they saw my naked breasts but it soon turned into shouts when I turned my back to them. The shouts from the two of them were so loud even I flinched.
“Put the gown back on, Olivia.” The beta said, but I didn’t miss the note of anger in his voice. I put it on, shrugging as I turned to face them.
“It’s not that big of a deal. They barely hurt anymore.” I said with a dismissive tone.
“Olivia, listen to me. Get the documents and come to my cabin. If your father shows up, we are going to get him killed.” Zayn, the omega, told me.
“My mom holds the whip,” I told them in a solemn voice.
“Sarah?” The beta asked. His eyes went a fraction colder and I raised my brows.
“You can't tell me you don't know. It’s obvious to the entire pack that I'm the scapegoat of the pack. The bastard girl who isn't even a complete werewolf.” I watched as Zayn swallowed uncomfortably and tried to say something but I cut him short.
“And that's why I'm here. Because I'm at the end of the food chain. And you know it.” I was not sure where this was coming from since I usually took everything in silence but maybe I had reached my limits.
Even though I acted like it was nothing when I took off my dress, I was terrified they might rape me. Maybe it was because I was a virgin and I was uncomfortable with my nudity. I had the feeling that no matter how many times I had sex, hopefully with someone who would adore me even though it
seemed like an impossible wish, I would never be brave enough to show my scarred body to anyone.
Zayn held the beta by the arm and they went to the corner of the room and began to speak in hushed whispers even my super heightened wolf ears couldn't pick up on their conversations. I gave up on trying to hear them and began to lightly massage my shoulders which were still sore from the recent beating.
“Come stay in my cabin. I promise you'll be safe.” Zayn said a minute later when they were done with their talk.
“Like hell, I would. My father will find me.” I told him.
“He won't think of my cabin. Why would I be hiding you from him?” The omega said in response.
“Why are you even trying to help me?” I asked them with a suspicious look.
“Because you are right. And enough is enough.”
I let them talk me into it. I knew I shouldn't have, but enough was enough and there was only so much that a girl could take.

Like most girls growing up, I dreamt of living in a big castle with a ballroom and chandeliers, grumpy butlers, and my very own wing where I could wear my princess dresses and do princess stuff. Let's not forget the part where the prince comes to whisk me away to his even bigger castle and we all live happily ever after where I spend his money on dreamy stuff.
Yes, I was materialistic, sue me. But unlike most girls at almost twenty years old, deep down inside the burdened heart of mine, I still cradled that dream like a newborn. Maybe it was a coping mechanism or maybe I was just plain stupid.
As I walked into Zayn's cabin, I knew it was no castle and that Zayn was no prince and I was no princess. Nonetheless, I felt a little strange. I searched within my soul but couldn't pinpoint what it was.
Was it a strange feeling of serenity? Happiness? Peace? Maybe it was all or none, I couldn't tell.
After showing me around, Zayn left me in the Cabin since he didn't live here. I wondered why he even had the cabin in the first place since it had been all dusty when we arrived.
But since I'd rather not look the gift of a horse in the mouth, not that I ever understood what the statement meant. I swallowed my tongue and only vomited it back to thank him when he was leaving the house.
I looked at the cabin and smiled to myself. It was old but functioning. Neither was it a castle but I had it all to myself. I couldn't stop myself from doing a little dance as I looked around the house. Since it was already evening, I ended up in the cute little kitchen to make myself dinner. For someone who had always been forced to do it all the time, I should hate cooking but it was quite the contrary.
Cooking gave me a sense of purpose and made me feel like I was useful, which in turn made me happy.
I fell into a dreamless sleep, waking up every time I heard a noise and since the cabin was in the woods, surrounded by trees and animals, there were quite a lot of sounds. On the night of the second day at the cabin, I realized I had no reason to be scared. My family wasn't coming. I could die and they wouldn't give a shit about me.
This fact shouldn't have surprised me either so I didn't know why I was crying into a pillow.
The first thing I did the next morning was to take a shower. So what if my tears got mixed up with the hot water as it burnt the wounds that hadn't completely healed, even with my werewolf system.
It wasn't just a shower for me, it was washing away the past and getting ready for my future. Or so I thought until I felt a sharp pain in my head and everything went black.
It seemed like my father cared after all since his face was the first thing I saw when I came on to the floor of a cold room covered with a pink bedsheet.
“Who gave you permission to leave?” He asked as soon as he noticed I was awake.
I am a grown woman. I longed to say but the words stuck up in my throat. When I tried to sit up and my head felt like it was exploding, I began to cry.
I wanted to stop it but the tears kept coming.
“Your tears are not going to fool me, girl. You better think with that empty brain of yours before you decide to run next time because, unlike this time, it won't be good for you at all.” My father said to me,
I was about to ask how being hit with a heavy object by your father while you were showering and anticipating a new life was good when I saw the other guy. No, not a guy but a man and he was staring at me. He moved closer to me and I shrieked in fright.
Everything about him from his feral smile to his predatory walk screamed danger.
“This is your mate from now on.” My father said to me.
“What?!” I screamed. I was sure I didn't hear him well. I mean there was no way I heard him well.
“I'm not going to repeat myself. Get on your feet.” My father said instead.
“Don’t scream at her. I believe she has ears, no?”
I heard the man say and I blinked. He had a voice that reminded me of the stream behind Zayn’s cabin. It sounded calming and deep, but it could also bring you to your demise.
I took another step back, ignoring the look in my father’s eyes.
“You can’t take me. The Alpha wouldn’t let you do this.” I told him.
The man scoffed, looking at my father.
“She talks too much. You didn’t mention that when you offered to use her as collateral.” The man said.
Collateral? I thought. My father wouldn't be that cruel to me, would he? I asked myself.
“You sold me off to him as collateral?” I asked my father just to be sure I wasn't mistaken. My father ignored me and just turned to the man.
“Alpha Leo, we can decide to knock her out. It seems the last beating failed to shut her up.”
My father said instead of replying to my question which gave me the answer I needed. I looked up sharply as my brain reconnected to the name it heard my father call. Alpha Leo? The Alpha rumored to be so heartless even his Luna couldn’t control him? How on earth did my father get involved with him?
“I see my name precedes me since there is fear in your eyes. Do I trust you would come quietly now?” The man asked in a quiet menacing tone which added to my fear. I glanced at the window behind them. If I run fast enough, I can get Zayn. I can’t let my father do this to me. I returned my gaze to the Alpha and smiled prettily.
“Of course, your honor,” I told him when I had no intention of following him. He tsked as if he could read my mind, then he snapped his fingers at my father.
“Knock her out. I can’t have her awake for the return journey.” He commanded my father who moved towards me, but I was faster. I broke through the window and ignoring the shards of glass stuck to my skin, I ran. I heard my father behind me, and I channeled my inner wolf to increase my speed.
Moon goddess, if you truly exist, please let me shift. Please. I was too busy praying I didn’t see the man in front of me or the rock he used over my head.
Julian POV.
“Hold on.” My beta said as he ran a hand over the back of the horse. “I still don’t get why you are traveling to meet Leonardo. I thought you two hated each other.” The man said and I laughed as I got off my horse.
“We do,” I responded. “But, remember I told you he might be messing with the spirit codes?” I explained to him how some of the warriors had caught some Blueblood wolves with some crates just a day earlier. When I was done with my explanation, my beta, whose name was Holden, gave me a droll stare.
“Knowing Leonardo, his warriors can’t be that easy.” He told me.
“They didn’t tell us they were from his pack. It was the emblem on their crest that gave them away.” I explained to Holden.
“And now you want to pay him a visit because you suspect foul play?” My beta asked with a laugh.
“If you are going to keep being a jokester, I can ask Niamh to come with me instead,” I told him. Niamh was Holden’s mate and my omega as well.
“I never said I didn’t want to come, Julian. Chill.” Holden told me. I ignored the look on his face and gave him a pointed look.
“You know what to do,” I told him.
“Fine. I will prepare for the journey.” He replied and gave me a sly grin. I waved him off, heading out of the stable. I ran into Niamh at the council house and she hugged me.
“Is Holden home too?” She asked and I nodded, smiling at her.
“Yeah, and he doesn’t know this yet, but you are coming with us to Leo’s pack,” I told her. I watched as her eyes grew serious. That was why I liked her, she never joked about anything which concerned me or the pack.
“Is this about the crates?” She asked and I nodded. "Let's hope it's just a misunderstanding though," Niamh said after I nodded.
I smiled at her as I thought about her character. Niamh was one of the people who saw the good in everyone. It came with its disadvantages, but it also proved useful when dealing with clan issues.
“You have not spoken to him in many years and the last time you did, you both nearly killed each other.” She reminded me and I winced, the scar Leo left on my back suddenly aching.
“I am sure if I diplomatically approach him, there wouldn’t be much of an issue,” I told her, and Niamh’s brow arched.
“Isn’t that what you both told each other before you decided to cause a clan war with your fight?” She asked and I gave her a grin as I remembered the conflict she was talking about. I explained to her that we were both older and more mature. Besides, I also had stronger warriors so a war was out of the question.
“But we are going to be on his land.” She reminded me. I patted her cheek and her eyes narrowed.
“Do not worry, Niamh. I promise to be on my best behavior.” I promised her. She opened her mouth to talk but I gave her another pat. I told her where she could find Holden and went inside the packhouse. I ran smack into my little sister.
“Oh, Julian. You are here.” I said and immediately noticed the hickey on her neck. “What the fuck is that, Jane?” I asked her in anger. Her hand covered it and she laughed uneasily.
“Uh, I have no idea what you are talking about.” She said in a nervous tone.
“Do not make me repeat myself,” I shouted at her a little.
“He is a nice guy!” She shouted at me.
“Oh, so it is a guy? Just what have you been doing in my absence, little sis?” I asked her.
“I am not little.” She barked at me.
“You are 18. So, you are little.” I retorted.
“I am a grown woman.” She countered.
“Did he tell you that?” I asked and rolled my eyes as she turned red. “How old is he?” I asked in a calm tone.
“Twentyone.” She answered. I bit back the words I wanted to say and asked her another question instead.
“Is he in the warriors? If not, what is his job in the pack?” I asked her. When she answered that he was a soldier, my mind went to the recruits and I remembered that we only have five of them. Out of the five, only two were above twenty. “Tall?” I asked her again in an attempt to filter who her lover was. Jane narrowed her eyes and her arms landed on her hips in a pose that screamed 'don’t fuck with me.'
I gave her a warm smile.
“I know you are weeding him out in your head.” She said in an accusing tone.
“What? Me? Never.” I told her in a very serious voice.
“Don’t play with me, Julian.” She warned.
“Just tell me his name then. I just can't wait to see the man who is giving my little sister a hickey and have a little talk with him.” I told her.
“Just like you talked with Raef?” She asked and I held up my palms.
“It isn’t my fault Raef was a scaredycat. I just talked to him.” I answered her.
“You showed him your wolf. That’s not just a talk, that is intimidating.” She accused me and I grinned, dropping my palms.
“Tell me his name, sis. Let’s see if this one has balls.” I told her. She opened her mouth but she was cut off by the entrance of Finn. Finn was Holden’s little brother and he was also his assistant. He was also 21 and was a deputy general soldier.
“Finn!” I told Jane and her eyes widened. She stepped on my foot rudely.
“Stop it.” She said and pointed a finger at me.
“You just confirmed it, baby sis,” I told her, ignoring the stab of pain her shoes had caused. Jane grabbed my arm and started pulling me outside. “I just remembered I have to show you my garden.” She said, dragging me away.
I turned back and saw that Finn’s eyes were trained on Jane. I read nothing but devotion and admiration all over. I halted in the walk which made Jane look afraid.
“It is just a talk, Jane. I am not going to bite his head off.” I assured her.
“Promise? I like him.” She told me. I grinned at her and nudged her cheek.
“I can see that and I can see that he likes you too,” I told her. I held back in the gag that came when I saw her face change.
Finn was still by the steps of the clan house but before we could reach him, Holden and Niamh reached us.
“One of the Bluebloods talked. The crates were being taken to another kingdom.” Niamh told me.
“Another pack we suspected, but they refused to talk after that.” Holden had his serious face on as he spoke. The one that spoke nothing of the joker he normally was.
“Our trip to Leo’s pack has to be sooner than ever now,” Niamh said to me and I nodded. I let go of Jane's hand and watched as she rushed over to Finn.
“Prepare everything we need. We leave at dawn.” I told both of them.

Julian POV
We left early for Leo's pack without letting him know that we were on our way. We should have informed him of our intending visit but we didn't want to give off any vibe that we were coming to investigate him.
Alpha Leo was my brother but we had been enemies for as long as I could remember. I always thought of him as a selfish and greedy person who didn't care about others.
He was the reason why I was not a part of our father's pack but I was grateful to him for that since I would have been under his governorship now if I had remained at the pack due to the will my father had written down before his death.
But, just because I left the pack though didn't mean that I didn't want to claim my father's throne as the first child and this could very well be the chance I needed. To hear that he was messing with the spirit codes was more than enough for me to ruin him and claim my father's throne once and for all. Only a crazy person would dare to mess with the spirit code.
Before we left the pack, we had devised a plan. Holden was to investigate while I distracted my dear brother for a while. I already told Holden that I wanted to know what was going on in that pack of his.
It was clear something strange was going on in there, the mysterious crates being moved to another kingdom. Everything going on was uncertain but I was sure Leonard's pack was involved.
When we got to the borders of my brother's pack house, our cars were stopped by the patrol guards for inspections. Holden and my guards became tense and were ready to attack if anyone made the wrong move,
“Do you have permission to enter?” A blond guard asked me.
“Do I need permission to enter my brother's pack?” I rose to my full height to question him.
He realized his error quickly and bowed in apology.
“I am sorry alpha Julian, I will tell alpha Leo that you are here.” He said as he kept bowing.
“Very well,” I replied and signaled to my guards to stand back as they let us through the gates.
We drove past the gates towards the structure of buildings Leonard had erected. My brother was standing right in front of one of the buildings, looking formidable with whom I guessed was his beta. I got out of my car and headed to meet him for formality sake when all I would like to do was punch the smug out of his face.
“Ah, alpha Julian, it's nice to see you here." He greeted me.
“Alpha Leo, nice to see you too,” I said in response.
“Come, let us head into my office and talk.” He suggested.
I told the guards to hang back while Holden and I followed him to his study.
“So what brings you to my territory, brother? I never expected to see you here again.” Leo said to me with a smug smile on his face when we got to his office. Ugh! That look.
“Well, we are still brothers, so I came to see how you are doing. I will be staying for a day or two.” I told him
"Very well then, I will tell the luna to make provisions for you." He stated.
I had been about to look around the office but his statement stopped me. I was shocked beyond words. Did he get a mate? Since when? Alpha Leo found himself a mate? Is she even real?
“Thank you,” I told him, masking my surprise well.
He sent his beta to call the Luna to get to the study immediately and we waited patiently as she took her sweet time. My wolf was beginning to stir inside me, he was trying to tell me something. I breathed in to control myself. I could feel the presence of someone at the door even without turning.
Enticing. My wolf muttered to me and I could suddenly feel the delicious scent of whoever was at the door. I breathed in greedily once more. I wanted to wrap myself around this intoxicating scent forever.
My chest felt hot and a burning desire coursed through me, making my wolf bounce around in my head. He barked, tail wagging feverishly as he stared down the door with an overwhelming sense of urgency.
My finger itched to open the door and see the one who is causing such a reaction from me. The closer the scent got, the faster my heart pounded.
Finally, the door opened and the most beautiful woman I had ever seen came into the room.
Her presence filled the room with so much light. A gush of her scent hit me straight in the face.
“You asked for me?” She asked in a tone that sounded like a melody to me.
I felt a shiver run through me from the soft yet sharp polite tone of her voice. My wolf whined in my head. I too was losing my sense of reasoning like my wolf was. All I wanted to do was wrap my hands around her slender body and claim her.
Wait! Mine? My mate was Leo's Luna?! How? That couldn't be remotely possible even for a second. I kept asking myself.
“Please prepare a place for Alpha Julian and his guests,” Leonard said, gesturing to me.
She turned to look at me...
Surprising brown eyes pierced into my blue own with no intention of letting go. The scent that had me going off the rails since I stepped foot into the study.
My wolf was going crazy, his gaze narrowed in on her like the predator he was and the rest of the people were pushed to the back of my mind as I continued to stare at her.
She demanded my attention without even asking for it, my eyes trailed the rest of her. The creamy skin hidden under the dress she was wearing screamed at me to tear it off her.
The tease of seeing how smooth her skin was in that dress woke up so many desires in me. I wanted to mess up her hair so I could watch her come undone. To run my hands through her luscious hair and watch it fan out while she was under me.
“How would she look under me?” I asked my wolf and groaned internally as I realized that my thoughts were going haywire. I looked back at her face and saw the soft brown eyes that were paired with long lashes still staring at me which held me captivated. Her soft parted lips did wonders to the most reactive parts of my body as my arousal hit.
Of course, I knew claiming her was going to cause another war between our clans but I couldn't stand the thought that my real mate belonged to my dickhead brother. She was going to be mine one way or the other. My hands tightened into fists, I couldn't help but sit there and look stupid. I was already losing common sense when it came to her but I couldn't waste any more time, especially not with my brother.
We concluded for the day and I headed to the room prepared by her. I later found out that her name was Olivia. It was as pretty as the woman who bore it. I told Holden that I needed to talk to him in my room privately and he agreed to come up with me. I paced up and down the room we were in, looking for the perfect chance to say something about my plan to him. Deciding that I couldn't say it in any way except being direct, I spoke up.
“I am going to kidnap Olivia” I pronounced. Holden fell off his chair in shock.
“Shhhh, you can't blurt out things like that. At least not while people can hear.” He cautioned. I was both surprised and chastised by him.
“You are not going to ask me why?” I asked him.
“Oh, please Alpha, it was a good thing Alpha Leo didn't notice the gooey eyes you were making at his mate.” He teased.
“Shut up,” I told him without heat.
“So what is the plan?” He asked me.
“I don't know, I was hoping you would direct me,” I told.
After he made a plan with me to stay for a day and watch her activities, Holden left while I battled with my wolf.
Go to our mate. Go to our mate now. We need to claim our mate fast. He chanted in my head.
“I know. Very soon, we will be with her. Very soon.” I assured him. He seemed to be okay with that for now.
~~~
We had been at my brother's place for a few days and I had learned that my brother's Luna pretty much kept to herself as she was mostly indoors reading a book or sleeping. It was either she was avoiding me or she didn't know that she had found her mate. I wonder what she was doing when she chose Leo to be her mate. A knock sounded on my door and Holden let himself in.
“Alpha, can I talk to you?” He asked.
“Mindlink,” I told him and he nodded, showing that he understood why.
“I found a way we can make it work.” He said into my head.
“Make what work?” I asked him, confused.
“The kidnap.” He answered.
“Oh right, what about it?” I asked him, pointblank.
“It's safe to say that Luna is not an outdoor type. So why don't we just take her from inside?” He suggested.
“How do you suggest we do that?” I asked him.
“So, in the middle of the day, Leo is out and his guards are always at the borders, so we can kidnap her, dress her as one of your guards. No one would suspect a thing till after we've gone far away.” He explained the plan to me.
I made a show of thinking it through, meanwhile, I was already sold on the idea. There was no other way we could pull this off without alerting the guards and causing a war between clans except doing it so much quieter. Then, the chances of getting caught would be zero. Since we are leaving for the SilverCrest tomorrow, that would be the best time to kidnap her without anyone knowing or suspecting anything.
Olivia POV.
I flipped through the pages of my book as I tried to grasp what the book was talking about but I failed. My mind was stuck on the man I had seen a day earlier in Leo's study, the blueeyed man that had made me shiver with just a look.
I had to control myself back then because I knew how territorial Leo could get. But seeing the way the man had looked at me had made me feel powerful and hopeful for a better chance at life. It has always been from hell to a hotter hell for me.
Neverending suffering all through my life but it was going to be over soon. He was leaving today and I hadn't even gotten a chance to talk to him to take me with him since I was scared Alpha Leo might see us.
There went my chance at being free from Alpha Leo out the window.
I suddenly wanted to go for a walk, the book was not helping and neither was me sitting around. I wrote a note for Leo telling him I went for a walk so he wouldn't worry and I headed out into the woods where there was peace.
I would be able to think properly about what to do there. Squealing tires ripped me away from my thoughts, I tried to ignore the car but it got closer to me. I increased my pace a little. The faster I walked, the more the car tried to come closer.
I was almost convinced it was Leo trying to keep an eye on me till I remembered that he had no idea where I went or what I was up to. Soon the car was right beside me and I began to run, looking for ways to escape.
I heard a door slam shut which told me they were on foot now. I ran even faster.
“Who thought it was a good idea to go for a walk?” I asked myself as I ran.
“An idiot, that's who.” Someone behind me said.
I had only taken a few more steps before I felt hands drag me back to the car. Before I could scream, a hand covered my mouth preventing any sound from coming out. I tried so hard to fight back but it was futile.
I resisted the person as much as I could before they threw me into the van. It was so dark inside the van I couldn't see anything and that made me scared that this was going to be the end of my life and suffering.
I didn't want to die but just wanted to live a good life. Since fate wanted to decide otherwise, I don't mind falling into the pure bliss of darkness reaching out to me.
Back at the packhouse, Alpha Leo and Alpha Julian were chatting one last time before Julian set off to leave for his packhouse. Alpha Julian sat there with Holden knowing the plan was being taken care of and they were just stalling Alpha Leo for some time to accomplish their mission. When Niahm's mindlinked him that they were done, Julian got up.
"Well, I will be taking my leave now," Julian said to Leo with a smile.
"Alright brother, till the next time," Leo said with a snicker.
They shook hands and parted ways as Julian climbed into his car with his beta and guards and they zoomed away. Julian had a big smile on his face because he knew he had succeeded in both missions and he was pretty damn proud of himself.
Before the spirit codes formed, there were seven tribes who lived happily in their territories.
Crescent moon.
This tribe was the most reputable because of the large number of people in the tribe. They wore white garments everywhere they went and they were feared by all and nobody could come close to them in terms of number, and with numbers came strength and for this reason, they were held in high regard.
The Crescent moon tribe were always at the forefront whenever it came to music, Music was inculcated into their living and they loved it because they believed it helped them live healthy and elevated moods, they all loved it because they knew it lessened stress and symptoms of depression. Every family knew how to sing and they had a ceremony called will yank where they could showcase their talent.
During the moon goddess worship, they would sing beautifully and channel the goddess in the most ethereal way possible.
Red blood.
The Red blood Tribe were made mostly of warriors, they were brutal with an average number of fighters that could die for their leaders.
This tribe lived mostly on the hills and did not believe in wearing garments, they said they did not want to betray their ancestors and for that reason, they walked around close to being naked.
Married women had a unique way of distinguishing themselves from young ladies and that was covering their boobs. They planted their crops and hunted in the mountains for that was their territory.
Far north were the Red Candles, they had numerous scholars from this tribe, and they had the highest number of scholars; Their strength came in knowledge and for this reason, every family in this clan made it incumbent upon themselves to learn and teach their werewolves everything that was needed to be known about the laws of this world.
Fathers boasted about how much they had learned about this world amidst their pairs, girls always held a special affinity for the most brilliant boys. But the Red candles had a major problem And that was how to transform their Knowledge into wealth.
They could talk but rarely took action.
Nethertheless, in the whole town, they were also respected and whenever there was a problem that needed to be handled critically, the red candles were usually called upon.
Fislow Ward was known commonly for their blue garments, they walked with elegance and Pride even though the women in this tribe were the most powerful, they were seen mostly on the farm trying to meet ends means and they further went ahead to harvest and sell their crops.
The women struggled to make money while the men sat down and did nothing during the day waiting patiently for the night.
When the longawaited night finally approaches they will collect some of the gold coins made by their women, to take their favorite drink which is the Kotas.
The men of the fellow tribe had a very beautiful belief about the Kotas drink, they said the one father away from their house was always the sweetest and for this reason, they traveled a few kilometers to enjoy themselves, in every bar, a man in a blue garment could be found.
The Dark Knight consisted of mostly Assassins, they lived and survived on the water.
The Dark Knights built their houses on water and made a fascinating living on the water. Whenever a baby reached the age of ten, he/she would be thrown into the water. This tribe believed they were acquitting the baby with the water who would be his best friend, they could also fight on land but nobody dared to come close to them on water. The Dark Knight was very unmaterialistic and lived mostly on basic things and made a beautiful living.
The Night bliss was the wealthiest of all the Seven tribes, they had magnificent buildings with mindblowing architecture.
They were very good Merchants, The Night Bliss did business both day and night, did not care about the weather nor Season, they were always traveling with their Caravan; trying so hard to be the wealthiest in their community, with money came pride and respect and every individual in this tribe needed to have immerse money to be respected.
Their Women tried to keep up with the men and for this reason, they were also seen as very expensive to keep but they were beautiful so nobody cared about the money and only their tribe could take in a woman from the Night Bliss.
The Alpha of the Night Bliss was a huge handsome Alpha named Killian, his urge for power was something that could not be ignored, he tried so hard to be better than the other Alphas.
He had asked for help on how to lead the seven tribes altogether and he was told he had to find 'the special one'
And who was this special one?
He had no idea but his witch gave him a name. Alexander Firdaus.
He had asked where he could find him and he was told, The solar tribe.
The weakest amongst the seven.
The Solar tribe lived in a remote area, where trees shielded them from the sun, irrespective of their setbacks they were happy, Children could be seen jumping from one place to another, they knew they were the smallest but in their hearts, they were the happiest, they always had fun in the night, they would light a fire and sit round it.
The older men will tell tales about their ancestors, folklore or maybe about things they had encountered In the past and how they bravely navigated through it.
Some of them were lies, others had elements of truth in them either way, they were joyous of all the tribes.
The Solar tribe would talk about the benefits of Folktales, they would say it played an important role in their clan. Because stories reflect their group's cultural identity, preserving the stories of Werewolves would help preserve an entire culture.
Storytelling affirmed pride and identity in a culture. In this amazing town of theirs, stories were created by and for the tribes telling them.
Different groups in their town had different rituals or ceremonies for storytelling, which created a sense of belonging to a cultural group. To outsiders hearing a clan stories, it provided an insight into the community's beliefs, views, and customs.
For people within the community, it allows them to encompass their group's uniqueness. They showed the werewolves' desires and fears of a group, such as love, marriage, and death.
The Solar tribe would always say, Folklores are also seen as a tool for education and entertainment. They provided a way for children to understand the material and social environment. Every story had a moral to teach people, such as goodwill prevails over evil.
For entertainment, stories were set in fantastic worlds. Even though folktales were for entertainment, they brought a sense of belonging and pride to their communities. The Solar Tribe had an amazing culture that treated women equally to men, they showed everyone was equal and everyone deserved to be respected, Their women were also blessed with long and curly hairs that always touched their backs.
Killian thought about the tribe and laughed. To him, all those things they prided themselves in was hopeless. He wondered why the socalled special person would be in a tribe as lowly as Solar.
But when he thought about the advantage he would have if he found the special person.
His heart raced with excitement.
With that, he vowed to find the special person.
Alexander Firadus, a wolf born into the weakest tribe out of the seven, was not content with his life because he could not do the things he wanted to and honestly, he did not know what he wanted to do.
He just existed, not lived.
But how could he live? He did not recognize who he was or how he wanted to live.
It didn’t help that he was born under the Solar tribe. According to the tribal markings, Solar Tribe was considered lesser and they were often used as slaves or servants due to their incapability to match with the other wolf tribes.
Alexander knew he was different from the very first day he was born. Even the skies declared his presence on the day he was born.
The skies had shone with a dust of blue called Exarela, an occurrence which one could only see once in his lifetime, or never and wasn't sure he liked being different.
He had extraordinary strength and poise. He could do what average werewolves couldn't, and his capabilities surpassed that of vampires and witches.
He became both feared and respected in his tribe, but Alexander had a little problem. His memory was becoming more fuzzy as days passed.
He didn’t exactly know when it began, or how it came to be, but he knew it was a problem that had to be fixed.
He couldn't keep sitting around, hoping the moon goddess would take pity on him and cure his memory problem.
Deciding on a long hike through the icy mountains, with his traveling gear on his back, Alex set out for the solution to this increasingly annoying memory failure. He spent several nights in the thick woods, eating the food he’d carried with him, until it ran out. On the sixth day, Alvin stayed under a large tree with so many branches which stretched out as far as the eye could see. The roots of the tree branches in several directions, and served as a resting place.
Even his surroundings were thick with fog, and Alex couldn’t see a damn thing. But, he heard the snap of a tree branch a short distance away, and it sent the chirping birds parking from their nest on the top of another tree.
Alex’s ears perked up immediately, and he reached for the gun nestled beside his lean legs. He couldn’t risk changing to a werewolf when he had no idea what was out there.
Gun on steady, he navigated through as much of the ice as he could, some of it covering the front of his high boots, and soaking his skin, but he didn’t mind. His wolf instinct snapped at him, urging him forward, further into the thick fog.
Alex mistakenly stepped on a fallen tree branch, and it crunched under his weight, the only sound in the stark quiet of the morning.
“Who’s there?” Alexander dared to call, darting behind a sturdy bark. His breathing was soft and uneven, and Alex could feel his heart beating faster with each passing minute.
Cocking the rifle he was holding, he listened for any outofplace sound—an indication that he wasn’t the only one here in these woods. Everywhere was still as it had been when Alex woke up under the tree.
But when Alexander turned back to where his things had been, they were no longer there. Whoever took them must have known the area pretty damn well, and Alex didn’t discover any foul play. Foot tracks had been properly covered.
Letting out a low growl, he tried to fight his wolf form from kicking in. The hairs on his arm were standing at attention, and his eyeballs grew wide.
He couldn’t hold it any longer. Alexander allowed himself to transform, gritting when the pain tore through his skin like a knife wound. It wasn’t usually this painful, and Alex had to battle with his wolf. In the end though, he won, but he was so weak his body collapsed on the floor, and his vision faded into darkness.
When Alexander woke up, a few hours later, he saw that he was in a strange place. An old cabin from the looks of it. There were several holes in the walls which had been boarded up, probably from the outside. A small table, a wooden chair, and shelf overflowing with dusty books, were the only thing Alexander could see. That was apart from the bamboo bed he was lying on, still in the same outfit from the previous day.
Alexander couldn’t remember what had happened, or how he ended up in this enclosed space, the last he could recall was holding a gun. And bam! Here he was. Alexander rolled over to the side of the tiny bed, and a sharp pain pierced his skull.
It felt like he’d been asleep for days, and Alexander didn’t want to even think about it. He was on a mission to find the cause, and solution to his memory loss, that was what he needed to focus on right now.
Alex pushed through his lethargy, and with each step he took to the room door, he kept on thinking if he’d been doing the right thing, heading out in the woods.
It wasn’t because he was afraid of being ganged up and beaten by other big bad wolves who envied the amount of power he had, on the contrary, he was only scared of dying, with his body left for the vultures to feed on.
Alex pushed through his lethargy, and with each step he took to the room door, he kept on thinking if he’d been doing the right thing, heading out in the woods. It wasn’t because he was afraid of being ganged up and beaten by the other big bad wolves who envied the amount of power he had, on the contrary, he was only scared of dying, with his body left for the vultures to feed on.
The thought was beyond horrifying, and Alex had to remind himself that he was powerful, an alpha male. Although he’d been born under the Solar tribe, who were written off as nothing more than slaves, Alexander knew his story was just beginning.
Once, Alex tried the lock on the door, and he was a bit surprised when it didn’t budge, as if he had expected it to. Well, he was going to have to break the lock then.
He stepped back a little, feeling starved off air, and slammed the door with his closed fist. The door gave way, nothing but a small mass of wood now that he looked at it. Why was he here? And who’d locked him up in the first place?
Alexander found out all the answers when he stepped through the front screen door. There on the wraparound porch was a small picnic basket, which contained some food, and a brown envelope underneath.
Alex ate the food, devouring it like he hadn’t eaten in months, and as he stuffed his face full, he stared at the large expanse of trees, which disappeared into the far river. The place looked like a rat maze.
But the icy wind shook the tree leaves, and peltered the low grass. It finally dawned on Alex that whoever had brought him here had meant for him to find something–something that was contained in the brown envelope.
He wiped food crumbs from the corner of his mouth, and tore open the envelope. But, only a small note fell out. Don’t bother. You won’t find anything. Go home to your tribe.
Go home to your tribe? Alex nearly laughed at that. Where was home when his memory disappeared after twenty four hours? Where was home when he could literally wake up one day, in the middle of nowhere? Where was home when he couldn’t even remember? Alex had come all the way to find out everything, and someone was telling him to go to his tribe? No, he wasn’t going to. And Alexander balled the note up in his fingers, and threw it away.
Alex spread out the map he’d gotten from the cabin on the blanketed snow, and tried to make out where he was exactly.
He was surrounded by more and more trees in the forest, and to his left was a big stream, with different sizes of rocks and stones, which kept the tide afloat. Circling his location on the map, Alex began tracing the path that led to, and away.
As he traced, he kept circling, and soon the map was full of markings. Still, he couldn’t make out anything concrete.
Alex decided to go for a quick swim to clear his head, and he played around in the water, thinking back to the time he’d been with his gun. When he’d gotten up from that bed, the gun wasn’t by his side, and Alex had tried not to freak out.
Someone had taken it, and whoever the person was had to be the same person that was telling him not to bother, that he wouldn’t find anything. What was the need in continuing? But Alex really wanted to get rid of his forgetful memory.
Was that too much to ask? Getting out of the cold stream, Alex was supposed to feel cold, but he didn’t because his werewolf abilities had warmed the water up some. He hurriedly wore his clothes, bumping the map in his coat pocket.
And so, Alexander Firadus continued to sojourn in a land he knew not.
Throughout the time he crossed through high mountains, and sloppy valleys, he survived on barely much food, apart from the few berries he plucked from trees, and water from clear streams.
But, he needed answers, and to him, that was a small price he needed to pay. Weeks slowly rolled by, with Firadus having no idea of time, and he soon began to survive on the meat he could hustle from changing into his wolf at night.
He was always on guard in case of attacks too. But there was this day, Firadus had let his guard down. And he awoke to two silver gray wolves, trying to rip his body apart.
His senses went on instant alert, and he immediately changed to his wolf form, and hunkered down in front of them.
The wolves charged at him with their angry teeth, and fierce green eyes. Alex Firadus tried to dodge their bites as best as he could, keeping one pissed woof at bay, while he dealt with the other.
He had no idea where they were from, but he figured someone had sent them. Or news of his disappearance had reached their ears. Alex hadn’t told anyone he was going to travel, and worse still, for that lengthy period of time.
If these wolves should kill him now, nobody would care. His people saw him as a slave, and maybe that was all he was ever going to be—a slave, who was both feared, and respected for the power he had.
Alex pinned one wolf with his sharp claws, and threw the other wolf off his back. The wolf hit the sack, but was back again, scratching and scraping with his paws.
Enraged, Alexander bit hard on the neck, and wounded, it cried out for his own tribe to hear. The other wolf lay in the pool of its own blood. Seeing that more wolves would be swarming the area any minute now, Alex decided to take off.
It would be bad if they find out who he was.
But, wherever he ran to, it was as if there was a wolf hiding in one dark corner, and waiting for when he was at his weakest—which was waking up the next day with no recollections of the past—this wasn’t about finding answers any longer.
This was about survival.
One day, sitting on boulders of rock, overlooking a large body of water, Alex thought about all the things he’d had to do to get to this point. The dangers he’s had to face. The constant fear, and terror of having his memory slip away.
He couldn’t keep living like this. He couldn’t keep looking over his shoulders for any big bad, thinking ‘what was the next thing?’ He had to go home, to his tribe, to his homeland.
He wasn’t done searching for answers, not by a long shot, but at least, it wouldn’t be like he was a fugitive.
"Esther?" Alpha Killian fingers caressed the witch's pale skin, "Help me out, won't you?"
Esther was a tall slender woman with high cheekbones and a perfect side profile, her eyes were gray that if she stared at someone who didn't know her, they would think she was blind. But she wasn't. She could see through physical structures, the spiritual realm, the past, the future.
"I don't know, the future Is uncertain. I hate uncertainty so I don't want to help you."
Alpha Killian smiled and looked at her with a grin. "Come on, don't you trust me?"
"I only trust what I can see. I don't see how manipulating that boy can do you any good."
Alpha Killian placed a hand on the witch's shoulder and she looked over her shoulder, her gray eyes turning pitch white.
Alpha Killian was surprised by this and he let out a scream and backed up against the wall.
Esther let out a chuckle and smirked at him, "What a scaredycat!" She laughed. "YOU CAN'T FACE ME YET, you want a killing machine." She grumbled under her breath before taking a step toward him and kicking him.
Alpha Killian let out a cry and looked at Esther who did not show any form of emotion.
"Well, I'm not going to turn him into a killing machine." He grumbled, "It's just.. He has powers unlike any I've ever seen. Even more than that of the gods, I presume."
"Don't cross the line, Alpha. The man you so desperately want to control won't precede the gods. As long as you pretend he doesn't exist. Manipulating a man who doesn't have memory is the same as bringing disaster upon yourself and your kinsmen.
"That's why I want you to give him a memory."
"What kind of memory?"
Alpha Killian smiled, "I heard your family betrayed you so you killed them all. In the history books, you're the worst type of creature. You're not fully a witch either. You defy spiritual laws and have both sides—"
"—Shut up," Esther interrupted and Alpha Killian smiled once he realized that he'd pushed her buttons, now she would have no choice but to do exactly what he wanted."
"Your vampirical traits are not dormant, Esther. No matter how much you conceal it, you can't hide under the guise of being a witch forever. In the history books, you're the most horrific vampire who has no emotions and killed her family.
Because of this, your people hate you for ruining the vampire's reputation so you did something to yourself and made yourself like this.. A vampire with witchy traits.
However, if you give the boy the memory of your family betraying you and you massacring them.. He would be the most feared monster in the history of the supernatural."
Esther smirked, "I don't think you're doing this because you want to clean up my reputation."
"No," Alpha Killian replied straightforwardly. "I'm doing this because I want to be the most feared among the seven tribes. Then I'll lead all of them! With my very own personal killing machine."
"You're silencing them," Esther stated the obvious. "Because you want to rule them."
"Do I?" He chuckled darkly.
"I'll do it." Esther said.
However, it wasn't because Alpha Killian wanted her to.
"Then, I'll bring you to him."
Two bulky men walked into the room, pulling along with them an unconscious man. Esther who was sitting on a table, with a tea cup in hand glanced at the man who was dumped at the corner of the room.
She recognised him.
The special one whose name would be pronounced in history for decades to come.
She placed the tea cup on the table and stood on her feet. It was time to work.
She closed her eyes and created a barrier around the room. She used mind control to have him seated in a crosslegged position.
She also sat in front of him and placed both of their palms together.
It didn't take long for her to read his entire life story but she just couldn't seem to understand why he couldn't hold memories. His life was fairly decent compared to many she'd seen.
Maybe his soul couldn't comprehend body language cues. He was loved by many of the people who entered his lives but many of them didn't vocalize it. So he might have felt alone.
It still wasn't enough reason for him to lose memory that easily.
She tried to dig into the reason, but she couldn't and that scared her. What was he?!
That didn't matter for now.
She'd struck a deal with Killian.
With that, she went to the darkest memories of hers.
Her family had sent her to go out with a family friend so that she could collect some incense to give her father to help him sleep well. She naively followed the man and she didn't suspect her family friend until they were in front of a cliff with nowhere to run.
"Just how stupid are you, to trust me this much?"
The man laughed evilly and revealed the hand he hid behind his back which contained a knife.
Younger Esther was in shock and didn't react on time so the sharp knife was thrust into her chest. She let out a gasp and the man laughed, showing his teeth.
This was the family friend she trusted the most and wouldn't suspect for anything in the world because.. She had a crush on him.
"Why?" She questioned, staring into his eyes that now changed from being gentle to being monstrous.
"You really think the people you call parents are your real family?!"
Her eyes widened and the man laughed at the surprised look on her face.
"They nurtured you this long, just to use your blood to pray for their family ancestors."
With that, she was thrown out of the cliff.
The witch transferred the memories to him. But in his mind's eye, he would only see himself being hurt by the people he was close to in his tribe.
Then she guided an illusive feeling into his heart. Vengeance.
Alexander opened his eyes and this time they were pitch black.
Alpha Killian who had been watching behind the door smiled. Here was the chance he had been waiting for.
Chapter 7 Preview
"Who are you?" Alexander looked at Esther who simply smiled at her recent welldone work.
In just a few minutes, he had fully absorbed the memories she wanted him to.
The door opened revealing Alpha Killian whose face held a look of sadness and grief. Esther released the barrier she had placed around the room and Alpha Killian moved towards them and bent over in front of Alexander whose eyes held nothing but rage.
Alpha Killian placed a hand on Alexander's shoulder and said, "I saved you."
Alexander looked at Alpha Killian.
After being knocked off the cliff by a face that looked similar to his brother's, he completely blacked out.
Alexander looked at the oddlooking woman and Alpha Killian chuckled, "She's a healer, I brought her here to take a look at you."
Alexander simply stared straight at the woman.
"Actually," Killian brought Alexander's attention back to himself, "I.. Was mistreated by people of that tribe."
He showed Alexander the scar on his back, the one he got when he competed for the title of Alpha. He hoped the horrible scar would stir feelings inside of Alexander and it worked.
Alexander gritted his teeth and said, "I'll kill them."
Alpha Killian looked at Esther and bit back a smile as stood up from the ground, she was really a capable witch.
"You don't have to kill them, they're not worth it. Also, you can't do it alone." Alpha Killian pretended to be worried.
"You don't have to worry about that. Just send me to the town."
Alpha Killian sighed and turned his back on Alexander before revealing a devilish smirk.
"Fine, I'll ask someone to send you there."
In a fit of rage, Alexander killed his whole family and exterminated his tribe.
He cut out their throats, punctured their ribs, and expunged their eyes from their sockets. Not one person survived.
Reporting back to Night bliss, he let them know they’d won, and could now be the most powerful tribe in the werewolves realm. They all jubilated, and rented the air with their screams, but Alexander was unhappy and didn't know why.
He laid on the bed in his well furnished room and listened to the loud cheer coming from outside his room window. Night Bliss was celebrating—no, scratch that—they were holding a feast in honor of his name. They’d invited him as a man of honor, but he refused to eat and dance with them because he was tired.
Alexander blew out the candle in his room with a single whoosh of air, and resumed his position, allowing the cool night breeze sway his thoughts. When he’d killed those people, he hadn’t felt any guilt or remorse.
But it was after, looking at the dead bodies surrounding him like feets, the guilt smacked him in the face, knocking the air out of his lungs. His legs gave way first, and he fell on the floor, tears flowing out of his eyes.
Right there, he’d sobbed, seeing the face of the dead floating in his vision even with his eyelids shut.
Alexander could tell himself he hadn’t meant to do it, it was that primal urge inside of him, controlling him, and making him do bad things, but deep down, he knew the truth, but wasn’t ready to face it yet.
He was selfish, he’d agreed to it, had taken up the sword on his belt, and brought it down with the full weight of his arm.
He was a monster. He wasn’t meant to live, still he relished the feeling of being alive once more. What was it the Night Bliss had done to him? Alexander turned to his side, and then he turned back again. He couldn’t sleep.
They were having a feast, and the noisy chatter hit deep into his subconscious like he was there with them. He might as well be. Alexander used his werewolf power to try and make out what the people were saying.
At first, the clank of fork and knives on a plate was all he could hear, until the voices became clearer, more distinctive.
“He did a good job. Alexander the Great," Or so they called him.
"I had to see for myself, they were all dead,” this statement was punctuated with intermittent laughter, and he noted the murmurs of agreement.
“Yes. I agree with the alpha. He’s good. But, he wouldn’t have killed his tribe without some little manipulation of our own.” Laughter. Then, more laughter. But Xander froze, and underneath the silky bed covers, his skin burned cold. Wait. What? What did they mean by manipulating?
“Yep. That witch knows how to do her job. Cheers to us, for winning.” Meat munching. Glasses clinking. Laughter. More laughter. Drinks sloshing around the rim of cups. Tiny gulps.
Witch? He’d had enough! Alexander got up from bed, and marched out of the room, debating whether he should confront them, or leave them alone to celebrate. He chose the latter. And headed for the balcony where the noise was more subdued, a certain calmness was in the air. He was there for a short while, before company came. Alexander felt his presence, before he spoke. “How’s…”
“Stop. Just stop.” He raised a finger, trying to quell the anger roiling in his gut. This man who called himself the alpha was a coward, a coward with only rings and expensive clothing to his name. Surely, his tribe could see that he wasn’t a good leader if all he did was manipulate people to do his bidding. Early tomorrow, he’d be out before anyone would notice.
“I know. I know everything. So, just spare me the congratulatory speech.”
The alpha frowned, and shut his mouth instantly. “How much of it do you know?”
“I know enough. I’m going to find that witch, whoever it is, and kill her. I’ll kill you too, while I’m at it,” Alexander spat in anger, and he could feel the rage building up.
“Well…” The alpha drowned the last of the wine from his glass. He didn’t seem a bit unfazed. Or maybe he was trying not to show it. “Let’s just keep this between us.”
“I can’t believe this. I just can’t.” Alex took his hands off the balcony rail, and headed back to his room through a side door. He slammed the door behind him, and resting his back on the door, he sobbed.
It was happening again. Alex hadn't told anyone yet, but these past few days have been filled with the most unimaginable headaches.
And with the headache came these flashes. Sometimes, it could be a memory he had never seen in his life. Something that he knew was his memory, only he had no idea of how or when it occurred.
Other times, it would be waves of amnesia, with Alex waking up in a place he didn't remember walking to.
Alexander rubbed his head, trying to ignore the headache that felt like it was splitting his skull into two. "Alex." He looked up to see his mate, Joyce. "I am okay, J. I was just a bit disoriented."
Her brows lifted so high that Alex thought they merged with her hairline. "That is not what I was going to ask." He tilted his head, furrowing his brows."What were you going to ask then?" "I was going to ask if you had seen the Alpha."
Alex rolled his eyes, scoffing. "And why would I be the right person to know that?" Joy's eyes narrowed. "Oh, I do not know...Maybe because the two of you are always together planning to conquer a new plot or…"
He shifted on the bed, signaling her to sit next to him. "I am just doing my job." Joyce bit her lip, looking away. "Babe." Alex opened his arms, and she came closer so he could wrap his hands around her.
"Why do you need Killian?" Joyce kept silent, playing with the threads of his shirt instead. "Joyce." "I wanted to ask him to stop sending you on jobs. I know you are strong and all, but I am getting worried. What if someone stronger than you is out there?"
Another flash made its way across his brain, and with it came a voice. "I love you too, Alexander." Alexander groaned. Who was that? He moved, pushing Joyce off him in a smooth move and placing her on the bed next to him instead.
Joyce was giving him a look of concern and Alex waved her off. "I am fine...It's just a headache." "Are you sure? you should go see the doctor. Maybe he can help out." "I don't need him. I just need sleep."
He let out a deep breath, giving her a smile he hoped was reassuring. "I am going to be okay, Joyce. Just let me sleep."
She nodded, and he pulled her in for a kiss. Whenever Alexander kissed Joyce, it was as if she let something loose snap in him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, resulting in making him groan into her mouth.
Alex let my hands slide up her body, using the tip of his fingers to graze her underboob. Joyce's body was his instrument. I could get lost in her and she knew it. "Alex."
Another flash ripped his brain and Alex abruptly pulled himself off her. "Alex?" "Just, please...Not now." He kept his head down, closing his eyes. heard her leave the bed and the door slam after her. Alex felt nausea crawl up his belly, and the whole world went black.
When he woke up, the world was blurry and people I didn't know were standing over him. "He is awake." The voice said and Alex groaned, putting a hand over his face to block the light. "Alexander. What the fuck happened? We found you passed out in your room."
"Killian, get off him. He needs space to breathe. You are choking him, and your alpha scent is not helping." This second voice seemed calmer, yet Alex sensed he was the one that should be feared.
"Hello, Alex." His vision came into focus, and Alex was staring at a man with the most unnerving green eyes, framed by a pair of silver glasses. "Who are you?" He asked, trying to rack his brain for any clue of who he was and where he had known him from.
"What the fuck are you talking about? That's Doc." "Doc?" Alex echoed, letting his eyes drift to meet the other man's green again. The man's eyes widened as they stared at each other. "Oh no, Killian." Alex glanced at the man in question and something he could recognize as realization entered his eyes. "Oh fuck."
A woman came forward, tears lining her face. It made Alex want to hug her. The look of distraught on her face was heartbreaking. "Who are you and why are you crying?" She only seemed to get more distraught at his question and he wished he had kept his mouth shut
Doc rubbed his neck, taking off his glasses with his second hand. It was done so smoothly that Alex knew it was a reflex action. Killian cursed and Alex sat up straighter. "You need to tell me who you guys are, and why I am here."
Killian's eyes went red and he kicked a chair that was in the corner. "This cannot be happening." "I am afraid it is." The Doc mused, folding his arms. It was clear by the look in his eyes that he found this entire matter hilarious.
Alex begged to differ. "So I am guessing you are Killian? The Alpha around here? Could you tell me why I am here?" Killian glared at the woman instead. "How could you leave him? Wasn't it clear he was…"
"He told me to leave him alone. He said he had a headache so I went to get drugs from Doc. Doc thought it was strange so he came back with me. That was when we found him passed out on the bed."
"Joyce, you did the right thing. Do me a favor and get my bag from the den, okay?" The woman, Joyce, nodded, moving out of the room. "What is going on?"
Neither of the two men answered him and Alex clenched his jaw, trying so hard not to roll his eyes. Think about what you remember. He tried concentrating so hard, but nothing was coming.
The door opened again and the woman came in. She handed the big black bag in her hands to the Doc, and he placed it on the bedside cabinet as he rummaged through it. "Drink this."
He held out a vial that contained the murkiest yellow liquid and Alex folded his arms. "I don't even know who you are. Why should I trust you?" He shrugged, grinning. "I am saying you should. You wouldn't regret it."
Trusting his gut instinct, Alex shrugged, taking the vial. Killian had a look of hope as he downed it, but nothing happened. The Doc just smiled as he handed it back and then he opened his mouth to say something in a language Alex didn't understand.
He was about to open his mouth to protest when his vision alongside the world around him went black.
Killian watched his most prized possession slump back against the bed and turned to his beta. The Doc sighed, rubbing his head. "This is not good." Joyce opened her mouth to talk, but snapped it shut as her eyes landed on the Alpha. "Talk," Killian said, almost dismissively. "What did you give him?"
"A simple drug that would knock him out. It's to keep him under control while we try to figure out how to handle this." Killian cursed, resisting the urge to pull his hair out. "Why now? Why this?"
"That is about to be the least of your worries, Killian. They are going to come for him. Word already got out that he has lost his memory again."
Killian's wolf had the most wonderful habit of pointing out the obvious. He turned to the Doc, who was already packing up. "I am going to get the warriors ready." "That would be nice. We don't have any more time to fish out the traitor. We need to be ready before they come."
He nodded, slinging his bag over his shoulder and moving out of the room. "I would work on getting his memory back after the roundup. We don't know what could happen if we leave him in this state."
Killian turned to Joyce, using his alpha tone on her. "Make sure no one else enters here, okay? Alert us if he wakes up. Either me or Doc. Use the link."
He moved her out of his way, heading towards the hall. If anyone tried to tear down what he had worked hard for, they would answer to the teeth and claws of his wolf. And they would know why we top the ranks.
Halfway across the border of Night Bliss, wolves from another tribe were already making their way to them.
The alpha crouched across the floor, signaling the rest of the clan to do the same. The beta went next in line, the rest of them following behind.
A clan member, two wolves to the last, grumbled as he made his way through the muddy water. He hadn't heard who their source was, but since the Alpha trusted the source and that automatically meant they had to too.
He fingered the charm around his neck, feeling the power curse through his veins. It was enough to make him feel strong enough to defeat the socalled gifted one. It was years since the gifted one had started "working" with the Night Bliss clan. He was bound to be weaker.
"Get ready to ambush, men. Secure hour charms." He heard his Alpha's voice flit through their clan link and he nodded, grinning. "They wouldn't know what hit them."
Following his Alpha's orders, he shifted into his wolf. Then they attacked.
The Night Bliss warriors, however, were fully read. Killian recognized the Alpha right away by his mark and leaped for him. They tackled each other to the ground, their wolves nipping and attacking each other wherever they could touch.
Seeing their Alpha fighting, sent the two clans into a crazed frenzy. They leaped for each other, claws ripping through the skin, jaws slicing through bone. They showed no mercy. The clan gave it their best, but they were completely and utterly obliterated by the Night Bliss clan.
Killian shifted back to his human form, ignoring the blood on his body. "Regroup. We don't know how many of them are coming, but we can't let them have Alex. Understood?" He said, talking to his warriors.
They nodded, saluting him as he walked off. Killian barged into the Doc's cabin, heading straight for the fridge. "I am surprised it took that long though. You are normally known to finish in a shorter amount of time."
Killian fished out a bottle of beer, downing it all in one gulp. "They had charms." "How miserable. It didn't work then." They shared a laugh and Killian moved closer to see what the Doc was working on. "What's this?"
" A spell. It should help with Alexander's situation." Killian laughed, nudging Doc's shoulder. "You are so clever…" He was cut off by a loud explosion, which sent the cabin rattling.
Their eyes met and they nodded. The Doc grabbed the scroll from the table as they ran out of the cabin, meeting chaos already in motion.
The smoke from the explosion made it hard to distinguish between his clan and the other. Doc was coughing beside him, already in his wolf form. Killian shifted, running in to fight alongside his soldiers.
He had disposed of at least five of the opposition, looking for their alpha while at it. He moved faster, his wolf urging him on.
He heard a scream from the link and his eyes widened with terror when he realized who it was. Joyce. Alexander.
He turned around, heading in the direction of Alexander's cabin. He was tackled by at least two wolves and he howled for assistance, but it didn't come. He cursed, knowing these two wolves had a noticeable number of charms. It would take a while before he could meet up with Joyce.
"Keep him safe, Joyce. If he dies, the foundation stands on. You would regret what you did to me." She just wanted to touch his face one more time, but he was just glaring at her. She knew not to push him.
"Didn't you love me? We had something." Alexander just shook his head. "Whoever you knew, he is gone."Joyce didn't have it in her to scream as his hand came down again.
