MAXIMUS

Beneath the silvery moonlight, amidst a forest alive with secrets, I stood locked in her gaze, a tempestuous storm churning within me. Her vulnerability and hope meant nothing to me; they were mere distractions.

"Will you... will you reject me now? NNow that… that you know we are mates?" Her voice trembled with fear, a sensation I had no intention of indulging.

"Rejection is not the path I wish to tread," I muttered, my fingers brushing against hers almost mechanically. "Our bonds run deeper than mere choice."

The words tasted bitter on my tongue, a mockery of any sentiment that might have lingered.

"Then… wwhat choice… remains?" Her eyes mirrored uncertainty, a weakness I had no interest in sharing.

"Death. Death is the grim solution that hovers, heavy as the night," I confessed, the words slipping out almost involuntarily.

"To sever the curse that claws at me, I must sever the thread that ties us." Emotions were an inconvenience, but I couldn't deny the weight pressing upon me.

Her gasp echoed in the air, her shock inconsequential to me. "YYou… you can't mean..." Her voice faltered, unable to grasp the reality of my intentions.

I nodded, my gaze cold and unmoved as I confirmed the unthinkable.

"To save myself from the unending curse, to break free from the chains that bind me, I must be the one to end your life. I need to kill you with my own hands."

The words held no remorse; they were simply the course of action.

A shiver coursed down her spine, and I recognized the moon as a silent observer of our impossible situation.

“And there’s nothing you can do about it but to accept.”

In that moment, destiny hung in the balance, an entwining of love and doom beneath the ancient trees.

The mingling of heart's desires and the stark reality of our predicament left us both ensnared in a dance of emotions neither of us had invited or cared for.

…..

It is often said that there exist three types of love.

The type that is worth taking a life for.

The type that you would give your life for.

And the type you strive for in order to thrive.

Unfortunately, a wretched spirit like mine was never fated to encounter any form of love in my life story. I feel completely devoid of any emotions in my heart, and the mere sound of love annoys and frustrates me to no end.

It fills me with intense rage and causes severe discomfort in my stomach, as if I were about to vomit.

Is it possible for individuals to experience love, even though it has the capacity to devastate them in an instant?

Love has no place in this world, and that is precisely my intention when I ascend to the throne as the ruler of the Lycans.

I intend to establish a realm devoid of romance or any similar emotions. Engaging in such behavior would be prohibited, and the consequence would be loss of life.

I was completely destroyed by love. It had shattered me into minuscule fragments.

The agony is overpowering and engulfs you like an eternal, furious inferno that scorches but does not extinguish, leaving you haunted for the remainder of your existence.

That’s how fucked up it is.

I was an anomaly of the natural world. During my upbringing, I witnessed the tragic demise of my mates while holding them in my embrace, at the hands of my ferocious and merciless creature.

For the past three years, ever since I reached the age of twenty, I have been involved in a series of killings alongside my mates.

Now, at the age of twentythree, this dark chapter of my life continues. I was afflicted by a previously unknown curse, which transformed me completely into a monstrous being.

During each occurrence of the full moon, I transform into a formidable being, embodying the essence of a Lycan creature.

In this state, I relentlessly pursue a prey, someone I share a bond with, akin to a predator stalking its prey. I would revert to my usual self only once I had slain and consumed her heart.

It was absolutely terrifying as I remained fully aware of my actions, and the echoes of her screams, cries, and wails haunted my mind incessantly.

The horrifying images of their brutal demises haunted me persistently. The memory of tearing her skin and extracting her eyes continued to haunt my thoughts, serving as a constant reminder of my role as a murderer.

I would morph into a merciless creature, obliterating my mate who had ignited the affection within me during each complete lunar cycle.

The Moon Goddess… she was aware of my affliction and still, she continued to unite me with a mate. And I detested her because of this.

The arrival of those stunning ladies in my life feels like a revitalizing breeze and a summer tempest, illuminating my world and bringing a sense of normalcy.

However, their presence is fleeting, lasting less than a year, as I inevitably eliminate them, no matter where they may seek refuge.

Every year, during the span of three full moon nights, I would find myself confined and bound within the depths of a cavern, enduring the most excruciating agony I have ever known.

As my physical form undergoes a metamorphosis, I am overtaken by the primal power of my Lycan creature. Waves of searing agony surge through me, engulfing my senses.

However, somehow, I will find a means to escape and locate that special creature whom I must eliminate in order to restore my usual state. To break the curse that ties me with torment and agony.

Living like this is an absolute nightmare, and as I took the lives of three destined mates, I realized the immense strength that now courses through me.

However, I've also transformed into an uncontrollable inferno that consumes everything in its path without mercy.

I have transformed into a merciless entity devoid of any trace of empathy.

‘A monster.’

The word ‘love’ became a haunting sound in my ears, as I recalled witnessing the demise of couples simply sharing kiss in front of me.

I reside within the sinister shadows of my soul. I lack the ability to experience the same emotions as others. Even intimacy failed to provide any solace for me.

Even my own parents… they are afraid of me and have had a hard time being near me, but it’s fine with me as I've never desired to be with anyone either.

I despise being in the presence of others as it reminds me of the isolation I experience as someone who has taken lives.

The way other gaze upon me serves as a constant reminder of my heartlessness and wickedness.

My sole contribution to the kingdom was in the midst of battle, where I utilized my extraordinary abilities to vanquish our adversaries, sparing the warriors from exerting themselves excessively.

However, they were always filled with fear whenever they witnessed the brutal way in which I slaughtered our adversaries, causing their lifeless forms to become a disturbing sight.

Once again, another brandnew year had arrived, and the impending arrival of the full moon was drawing near.

As the new year arrived, I found myself confronted with the most agonizing memory of my life. It was during that time that I encountered a beautiful, purehearted girl who ignited an intense and overpowering love within me.

Regrettably, I became the cause of her tragic demise.

My existence… means danger.

I am constantly avoided by everyone, and now the parents in the realm keep their daughters hidden from me because if the connection of the mate bond ever occurs between me and any of them, then her fate is sealed.

I was a doomed existence that should have never come to be.

Maximus Ravenscroft, the prince of the Gold Obsidian Kingdom, known for my Lycan heritage. I'm currently twentythree years old and will be celebrating my twentyfourth birthday this year, which only means I'll be entering the fourth year of this dreadful existence.

Yet, I'm still curious about which woman or what kind of shewolf will have her turn next.

Clouded with my thoughts, I was startled by a sudden knock on my door, causing me to quickly turn and direct my attention towards it.

“Max… My dear son, we kindly request your presence at the palace.” My mom's voice faltered, filled with fear. I can't hold her responsible; my problem with anger goes beyond what's considered normal.

“Can you tell me the reason first?” I responded abruptly, inwardly scolding myself for being too brusque with my mother.

I can recall a time when I was still a normal werewolf, and those two decades held such cherished memories for me.

However, they now haunt me as I realize they have all vanished. I would never revert to my previous state. I had become an outcast, instilling fear in the hearts of all.

“Max, we called upon a mighty wizard who vowed to discover a solution to free you from the curse.” She provided a concise explanation, her voice trembling to indicate her anxiety.

“Again?” I nonchalantly shrugged, and suddenly I could perceive the sound of her hasty footsteps fading away while I got out of bed. It seems like she is trying to escape from my presence.

As the sun rose, I completed my tidying tasks and casually threw on a coat to cover my previous attire of shorts and a top. Then, I stepped outside.

Numerous enchanters had arrived and departed, offering their futile recommendations. All of their efforts were in vain.

‘Okay, let's find out what this one has to express.’

I really hope I can control my anger and not resort to violence, as it seems like these fraudulent illusionists are attempting to swindle money from my father.

As soon as I exited my room, the guards in the hallway promptly bowed, their legs trembling instinctively with each step I took towards them, unable to meet my gaze.

Disregarding their presence, I proceeded to descend to the lower level, where the palace was situated.

Someone graciously opened the door for me, and as I entered, a palpable tension filled the air. Both older individuals and my parents were in attendance.

In the center of the room, the sorcerer dressed in crimson robes sat on the ground, surrounded by his mystical implements and belongings.

Silently, I confidently walked towards the seat next to my father, gracefully taking my place. This action made everyone in the room nervous and anxious.

My dad coughed lightly before starting.

“Go ahead, please.” He motioned towards the sorcerer, who acknowledged with a nod before directing their gaze towards me.

He seemed like an older gentleman with a snowy beard. His eyes gleamed crimson, reminiscent of a wild creature, while an assortment of rings adorned his fingers. I'm at a loss for words to portray him differently.

He appeared distinct compared to the other guests. And he seemed reminiscent of a timeless shapechanger.

Perhaps he possesses the truth.

“Lycan prince… Unlike other sorcerers or magicians, your parents didn't reach out to me. I have journeyed a great distance to reveal the truth to you before my demise.” As he started speaking, I couldn't help but scoff, questioning the relevance of his words.

“Just do the job. Enough with the blabbering as it doesn't concern me whether you arrived alone or were summoned. Just complete whatever task led you to this place and depart before my patience wears thin!” I lost my temper, and he responded with a faint smile.

“There exist three types of love, yet the most powerful is the one that compels you to live for it, as you both possess the strength to endure death and the possibility of never crossing paths again. You'll encounter her in the near future, and she'll be the person you've been waiting for.”

A smile spread across his face as he looked deeply into my eyes, but I quickly became annoyed. I was extremely annoyed by what he just said.

Who gives any importance to love anyway?

“Love? Is that all? Well, you can leave immediately before I take actions that will cause remorse for everyone involved!” I snarled while my heart became burdened with rage and repulsion.

He recently brought up the concept of love, something I despise completely, and now he could be in serious danger if he doesn't disappear from my presence.

I am indifferent to whatever else he may have to express. All he has to offer here is incoherent babble and complete absurdity.

“Lycan prince, I am unable to provide any additional information. But you must be aware that she possesses the power to captivate you...” He continued speaking, but stopped abruptly before uttering the final word, his gaze fixated on the anger reflected in my eyes.

He flashed a smile in my direction, then turned to my father and mother, before gathering his things and departing.

“Wow! So, tell me, is this the garbage that led me to this place”? I asked my mother a question, and she suddenly became silent.

“Do you not believe that he was implying that your future mate will be the one to end the curse?”

As my father stumbled, I instinctively reacted and swung my hand towards his face with a forceful blow.

However, one of the guards swiftly intervened, shielding him from the impact. To my surprise, my father collapsed as my punch landed on his chest.

All eyes were fixed, wide with astonishment, and I too was taken aback by my own actions. Does that imply that I may have caused the death of my father?

“You're well aware that it's inappropriate to speak to me like that in person!” I let out a low growl, my hand falling to my side as I stared at the motionless form of the guard.

A fiery sensation consumed my being as the malevolent wolf within me threatened to seize control. The term ‘mate’ was an absolute horror for me, and I absolutely despise hearing it.

In sheer terror, my father exclaimed, “Maximus! You nearly caused my demise!”

I was overwhelmed with a pang of remorse, particularly as my mother burst into tears.

Suddenly, a cluster of young ladies rushed into the grand palace. However, the moment they laid eyes on my presence within, they swiftly retreated in haste.

“Then… I believe it's about time to come to terms with departing from this pack. This is not where I fit in. I have taken many lives, and the consequence is to be exiled, something you couldn't do because you were also intimidated by me. Right?”

As I spat these words, no one spoke and they just looked at me with fearful eyes.

“Father, please ensure that I am prohibited from entering this place before I cause harm to any more individuals. Now is the moment to dwell amidst the werewolf community instead.”

As I inhaled, a broad grin spread across their countenances.

The extent to which everyone desired my absence from their lives and the Kingdom, despite my status as the rightful successor to the throne, was truly remarkable.

Honestly, it seems like I was never meant to be with my own kind because I am completely a special kind. A monster.

SERENITY

“Ouch!” I accidentally hit my head on the alarm clock next to my bed, which made me wake up with a groan and open my eyes slowly.

The loud sound startled me awake so abruptly that I quickly approached the troublesome device, switching it off forcefully as if it were the cause of my troubles.

“Ugh!” I really want to throw it down, but I'm too afraid because I know I'll get in trouble afterwards.

I glanced around the room with my tired eyes, and noticed that the window was slightly ajar, revealing the early morning light.

Everyone was still in bed because it was too early in the morning, except for me.

I let out a loud hiss as I lowered my head, feeling the weight of my heart. I felt a surge of both rage and sorrow engulfing me, causing my eyes to sting and making it difficult to hold back my tears.

Although I had only been in bed for a short time, it felt like mere moments as my eyes grew heavy and struggled to shut. I felt extremely sleepy, and all I wanted was to rest on the bed and fall asleep again.

I sat upright on the bed, propped against the wall, as I yawned and rubbed my eyes over and over again.

I lacked the strength to shift my body from the bed. The residence was quiet, as though uninhabited, but that was not true; everyone was just asleep.

While everyone else was peacefully sleeping, I had no choice but to wake up early and take care of the household tasks, even though I was always the last one to go to sleep at night.

I let out another yawn, feeling exhausted, and stretched my body with a grimace of discomfort. The stinging sensation of the whip marks on my arms and back, which were still in the process of healing, caused me pain

I quickly looked at the clock, and clenched my teeth. More than a minute had already passed, and I didn't want to stay in bed any longer once the alarm went off.

If I did, they would punish me severely for being lazy and not following the rules.

The idea of getting beaten once more following all the abuse I endured yesterday caused me to quickly get out of bed. Tears welled up in my eyes as a throbbing headache gripped my head.

I also experienced aching in my legs, accompanied by intense spasms that persisted relentlessly. It served as a harsh reminder of the poor state of my health.

My entire being yearns for relaxation, yet I am unable to provide it. I was tired and my legs felt very tired too, and the bed was just looking at me in a teasing way, like a scary trap ready to harm me.

I could sense my tired eyes struggling to shut as I resisted the urge to keep them open. I felt incredibly sleepy and worn out, with a sore back and twitching legs.

I simply desire to recline on my bed, yet I possess greater wisdom. I am aware of the suffering I will subject myself to if I choose to lie down and sleep after the alarm has sounded.

When I last attempted it, I ended up with a permanent scar on my back caused by the cut from my stepmother's wolf's claw.

And up until now, I am still wondering about how I ended up in this situation.

I am Serenity Nocturne and I happen to be the daughter of Lucius Nocturne, who holds the title of Alpha King. He is widely known as one of the strongest Alphas and is both respected and feared by other packs.

According to historical accounts, he was undefeated in battles and successfully fought against the Pack that murdered his parents during his childhood. He matured and swiftly acquired an unimaginable amount of power during the war.

The origin of his enigmatic abilities remained a mystery, granting him the agility of a gust and the strength of invisible might.

People were terrified of his wolf creature, which was known as the most feared and merciless. It would effortlessly and ruthlessly consume its foes.

As the sole offspring of his Luna, I expected to receive everlasting fear and admiration from everyone. However, that was not the case. Instead, I found myself enslaved, despised and rejected by all, forbidden from acknowledging the Alpha as my father or including his last name in my own.

I was rejected by everyone, even my father, and they also took away my royal status. I was treated as inferior to the lowest rank, like a slave.

My father, Alpha Lucius, has even publicly rejected me in front of everyone in our pack and has constantly warned me about being kicked out of the group.

He had been tormenting me and turning my life into a nightmare, a living hell. This happened because I accomplished something that had never been done before.

A terrible and horrifying deed.

I caused the death of his mate, the Luna. I caused the death of my own mother, but it was because she put my life in serious danger. Everything occurred three years in the past, during my fifteenth year of life.

I struggle to find words to describe the peculiar and overpowering force that has mysteriously consumed me.

On that evening, within the confines of her chamber, I tragically took my mother's life using only my hands, slashing her chest with my sharp nails and consuming her heart, which I suddenly desired like a bloodsucking cretin.

The only thing I remember is being overtaken by a fierce and unfamiliar beast spirit that emerged from within me.

It seized control of my thoughts, physical being, and inner self, just as it nearly ended my life. The peculiar creature was the one that rescued me from the brink of death.

I couldn't control myself and ended up killing my own mother before I could stop myself from going insane.

Everyone believed deep down that I was responsible for the death of the pack's Luna.

And that’s why they tortured me relentlessly, using wolfsbane to weaken my wolf and stripping me of my royal status, reducing me to a mere slave.

Nobody bothered to pay attention to my perspective. They never bothered to inquire about the reason behind my actions.

If I hadn't defended myself, I might have lost my life when my mother turned into a savage monster and assaulted me.

I made every effort to evade and flee the room in order to avoid harming her, but it proved to be futile. She was agile, menacing, and resolute in her mission to terminate my existence.

I was left with no option but to retaliate, and I would not have triumphed if it weren't for that exceptional power.

I don't know what that strange force was that suddenly possessed me, and I have no clue how it emerged from within me.

I sensed the unexpected existence of a peculiar being within me and could unmistakably discern that it was not my wolf, since I had not yet reached the age of sixteen.

Due to the extraordinary power of the creature, I violently assaulted my mother.

I suspected that my mother was under the influence of a demon. It was clear to me that she was not acting rationally, but unfortunately, I was unable to intervene or find a solution at that time.

This was because everyone was gathered at the royal palace to celebrate the birthday of the Beta's daughter.

I had to either defend myself and cause her death, or I lost my life.

I can still clearly recall the beginning of it all. Out of the blue, my mom whisked me away to her room amidst the ongoing birthday party, and I presumed she had something important to tell me.

I had no idea that she was already under the influence of a demonic enchantment and was not in her sane state of mind.

“Mom, what’s wrong? Why did you bring me to your room?” I inquired, but received no response.

Then, suddenly, I observed her eyes transform into a deep, hazy shade and her canine teeth elongate into pointed, razorsharp fangs.

I was filled with fear and attempted to flee out the door as she suddenly leaped at me, sinking her sharp claws deeply into my back.

“Mom… no! Please! Help!” I shouted loudly for help when the pain overwhelmed me.

I tried desperately to escape, but my efforts were in vain. She pinned me down, her eyes filled with terror, her snarl sending chills down my spine, and her body exuding a demonic scent.

“Mom! Mom! What’s wrong with you? What’s happening? Mom, please!” I found it difficult to catch my breath as I trembled with intense terror.

However, she carelessly leaned over and bit into my neck, greedily drinking my blood while her sharp claws on her right hand lightly traced my chest as if she were seeking my heart.

I was overwhelmed by intense agony, causing me to struggle for air. Once again, my capacity to howl and plead for assistance diminished as my energy depleted from my entire being, resembling a faint trail of vapor.

My mother was indeed on the verge of harming me that evening, and not a single person came to my aid.

In the room, my voice went unnoticed and unheard as my screams were drowned out by the overpowering noise of drums and the festive materials used to celebrate the party on the hall.

She forcefully pulled her mouth away from my neck and emitted horrifying guttural noises.

“You! You must perish! You have to allow the demons to reign supreme!”

Those were the words I heard my mother unintentionally say, as if someone else were speaking through her.

“MMom…”

SERENITY

My mom grabbed my dress and ripped the top, exposing my heart, which was the most effective way to defeat a werewolf.

“Mom, please! Stop this!” None of my appeals were heard, as she had completely gone insane.

“You need to die!”

At that moment, an unexpected surge of strength arose from deep within me, allowing me to effortlessly move her away from my stomach, where she was seated.

I swiftly rose to my feet and realized that my body was rapidly heating up; I also had the sensation that I was on the verge of exhaling flames.

I felt a strong disturbance within me, as if it was attempting to escape its boundaries.

I think it worked, because all of a sudden, I went crazy and got taken over by this weird creature, which made me really powerful.

As I gazed at my mother in that instant, her face became unrecognizable to me.

Instead, I perceived a malevolent presence, accompanied by a strong, unsettling odor that ignited a surge of anger within me.

I had an overwhelming urge to take her life and couldn't hold back any longer before confronting her.

Despite her attempts to resist, I was able to overpower her using my newfound power and inflict severe wounds on various areas of her body.

I violently removed her eyes and dislocated the joints in her hands and legs. In the end, I tore the heart out of her chest and consumed it like a monster.

At that moment, the partner of our pack’s Beta forcefully pushed the door open and entered the room.

She witnessed me taking the life of my mother and let out a scream, “Luna!”

A crowd quickly entered and apprehended me while I was in the middle of doing something.

‘Why didn't anyone come when I was so close to dying in her care?’

Despite the numerous injuries on my body, they refused to believe that my mother had assaulted me first. Instead, they unanimously concluded that she had acted in selfdefense.

The abilities of that peculiar creature that abruptly possessed me disappeared and never returned. When this occurred, I was fifteen years old, and ever since then, my life has been filled with unhappiness.

I was labeled as a demon, and on numerous occasions, they called upon several sorcerers to examine me.

These sorcerers would provide me with a potion to consume, which only caused intense agony as it scorched my internal organs.

Certain individuals would compel me to immerse myself in a receptacle filled with a poisonous plant called wolfsbane.

This act would cause severe harm to my human form, necessitating a whole month for recovery.

However, despite subjecting me to such torment, they would fail to uncover anything within me except for my wretched lupine nature.

It had been three years since the incident occurred, and nobody trusted me when I claimed that my mother had transformed into a demon and was determined to harm me.

Instead, my suffering intensified as punishment for falsely accusing the deceased Luna.

And this year, my life turned into a complete nightmare when my father decided to be with another woman, to be his wife and the new Luna of our pack.

Ophelia Grimwood, a woman who became my stepmother and a wicked embodiment who detested my presence.

All she desired was to witness my suffering and sorrow, and I couldn't identify the reason for her resentment towards me.

Ever since my father brought her to the majestic pack residence, I have experienced the most dreadful period of my life.

A few months ago, our Beta members tragically perished in a war, and as a result, our father decided to take in their daughter. I'm a year older than her, but that's irrelevant since she also treats me as if I'm her servant.

I follow all her commands without any hesitation, as even a slight disrespect would result in my father inflicting a severe wound on my body.

…..

“Serenity!” Suddenly, my stepmother interrupted with her voice, startling me and causing me to quickly jump off the bed, where I had unknowingly sat for a while.

I was overcome with fear, causing my mind to go blank as I stumbled out of the room with a blurry sight and tears streaming down my face.

I didn't require a fortune teller to predict that she would scold me once more for staying in my room for too long.

Even the way she spoke confirmed it.

I was deeply consumed by my sorrow, to the point where I failed to notice the duration of my presence after the alarm had sounded.

"Serenity!” she shouted once more, but I had to discreetly make my way to the kitchen before responding, to ensure she wouldn't discover that I had been in my bedroom after the alarm went off.

As soon as I entered the living room, I was confronted by the devil, who appeared to be patiently anticipating my arrival.

I felt a chill run through my entire body when I saw her standing confidently before me, wearing the most intimidating expression I had ever witnessed.

I could see the anger and bitterness in her shining brown eyes as she gave me a scornful look, clenching her jaw tightly.

Filled with fear, I instinctively bowed my head, unsure of how to react or respond.

However, there was no doubt that she would defeat me once more, and as usual, my father would not take any action.

“Did you just ignored me when l called you?” The way she spoke clearly showed her intense dislike for me, even when I'm not around.

"I apologize, I..." Slap! I struggled to speak as her sudden strike seared my face, causing a painful sensation akin to being pricked by countless needles.

“Lazy! Did you just switch off the alarm and go back to sleep when it went off?” She clenched her jaw and didn't hesitate to kick me in the stomach without waiting for a response, causing me to fall forcefully onto my rear end.

“No, I... uh...” I was unable to communicate effectively due to the intense discomfort in my abdomen.

I let out a cry and held onto my stomach with one hand, while using the other to soothe my backside. Tears welled up in my eyes and flowed down my face without restraint.

“Please… Luna… I kindly request your mercy just this one time.” I pleaded with a trembling voice as I glanced back at her, only to witness her advancing once more.

I felt an intense, unbearable pain that caused my whole body to tremble. I struggled to catch my breath, whimpering and silently begging for relief.

My eyes pleaded for help, while my lips quivered uncontrollably. The pain was so overwhelming that I couldn't even speak.

“Wow, are you that tired, Serenity? Then, if you're exhausted with life, consider ending it!” She snarled and struck my head with her boot; I sensed my life slipping away.

I felt as if I were about to perish, my head ringing loudly like a bell. I closed my eyes tightly and started sobbing uncontrollably as the agony overwhelmed me.

At that moment, I could hear the sound of her footsteps approaching me once more, causing me to cry even more intensely.

I realized that my tears were in vain, as there was no hope of anyone coming to save me. Instead, they would unite to punish me for disturbing their sleep with my weeping.

She crouched in front of me, glancing at my face with resentment, before uttering words that caused my heart to sink into my abdomen.

“I'm still curious about how you managed to avoid being killed by your mother who was possessed by a demon. Do you recall the information she shared with you regarding the demons?” She inquired, and I observed the selfsatisfied grin on her mouth.

‘How… how come she knew about it?’

I felt a sense of bewilderment swirling within me, and my body felt weighed down. I could only gaze, my mouth agape, yet no words escaped.

‘What is the meaning behind her words?’

“OOphelia, do you happen to be a… ddemon?” I spoke with a trembling voice, stuttering because I was scared. I breathed heavily while looking at her, feeling confused and deep in thought about what she had just said.

On that particular day, my mother, who was under the influence of evil spirits, informed me that I needed to perish in order for the demons to gain control.

‘How on earth did Ophelia find out that she told me something like this?’

For a brief moment, Ophelia glanced at my face, then chuckled softly as she stood up.

“Demon? Whom did I hear you refer to as a demon? Is that my Luna? Are you accusing my mate of being a demon, just like you accused my demised mate, in order to find a reason to harm her?”

Out of nowhere, my dad's voice boomed as he rushed down the stairs, causing me to quickly stand up from the ground while my body became tense with fear.

‘When did he arrive?’

A look of fury contorted his face, accentuating the marks on his visage that bestowed upon him an air of menace. He looked at me with intense hatred and disgust, his eyes shining in a dark shade of green.

“I...I...did not...I was just recently inquiring...” Fear gripped me as I stuttered, my lips quivering under the weight of his intimidating gaze.

“Oh, Alpha. This freak, she used to call me that because I shouted at her to start doing her household tasks.” Ophelia complained, tears welling up in her eyes, about how unbelievable it was that she woke up to discover that she was still sleeping even though the alarm had already gone off.

‘What the hell? I can't believe how incredible this woman is!’

My father became furious and rushed towards me like a predator, without caring if I was telling the truth.

He moved closer, his massive frame casting a terrifying shadow that loomed above me, enveloping my world in a mix of dread and sorrow. I closed my eyes tightly, expecting his attack.

Pak! As I anticipated, a scorching slap struck my face, causing searing agony to surge through it like a blazing inferno.

I let out a loud cry and instinctively grabbed my face as blood clumps began to gush from my mouth.

I trembled and whimpered, feeling a heartwrenching pain that left me numb.

However, he appeared unsatisfied, and I witnessed him assaulting me once more.

Pak!

SERENITY

“Remember this! I will make you suffer until you beg for death, you wicked killer! I despise the air that you inhale with us. The silhouette you cast and the surface you walk upon! I strongly dislike the fact that I am unable to harm you physically due to your royal lineage. Or end your life so that I will never have to see you again!”

With a thunderous roar, my father yelled at me, his voice filled with sorrow, anger, and intense animosity. Fortunately, Ophelia managed to grab him.

“Alpha, you must avoid putting unnecessary pressure on yourself by physically harming her. The previous wizards I brought along have taken in all of her evil abilities. Someone from the group of sorcerers might visit today to see how she's doing," Ophelia muttered with a smile directed at my father.

I felt a surge of fear in my heart upon hearing her words. I can no longer endure the torment inflicted by her sorcerers, who seem to only engage in torture while pretending to rid me of demons.

“Go up there! Start doing your household tasks, you messy swine! You are responsible for my daughter never being late to school!" My father scoffed at me with a repulsive gaze that sent shivers down my spine.

The pain was intense, particularly because he no longer viewed me as his daughter.

‘I am your real daughter, dad.’ He recently referred to the beta's daughter as his own daughter.

After which, they both strolled off, with his embrace encircling Ophelia’s midsection as she rested against his shoulder. She looked back briefly and gave me a teasing smile, making me feel sick as I tried to hold back tears.

…..

“Hmm… Mom and Dad, I'm going to be tardy for school today because of that unhelpful girl, Serenity. I'm not sure why she’s…”

As I entered the dining room, I noticed Vivien, the Beta's daughter, complaining, but she stopped talking when she saw me.

The trio sat together at the table, and the scene evoked memories. It reminded me of how I used to sit with my mother and my father, who was once a great dad.

‘It was supposed to be us, sitting there together, eating and happily chatting.’

Everything had transformed rapidly. Currently, I fulfill the role of a maid, attending to their needs rather than joining them at the dining table. The daughter of the Beta has replaced me.

“Here are the dishes you ordered...” I softly spoke while bowing and handed it to them, silently hoping for the tranquility and stillness to persist until I departed.

I have asked the Moon Goddess for protection from harm, and it appeared that my prayer was granted when I distributed the dishes and prepared to depart.

“Serenity!” My father's chilling and terrifying voice echoed my name, causing me to stand still, overwhelmed with the urge to burst into tears.

I really want to be able to disregard him and leave. I really despise having to face Vivien and endure all the insults and physical abuse.

Still, I had no choice, so gradually, I twirled and approached them.

“Have a taste of this food first. I no longer have faith in you," my father commanded, and I fought back my tears while my face turned crimson.

I had completely forgotten that things have always been like this. They always considered me a suspect, even though the true culprit, Ophelia, is sitting right next to them.

Despite having assigned personal security to monitor me closely while I prepare meals, he still found ways to embarrass me and shatter my emotions.

I sampled a bit of Dad's meal, followed by a taste of Vivien's dish. But when I reached Ophelia, she shot me a cold, piercing look that made my hands tremble.

Trembling intensely, I grabbed the spoon and plunged it into her meal, scooping up a spoonful as well.

But as I was about to bring it to my mouth, she swiftly struck my hand with the back of her palm, causing the stew in the spoon to scatter across my face and directly into my eyes.

“Ahh! MMy… eeyes!” I let out a loud cry of pain as the fiery sensation overwhelmed me, causing me to lose my footing and collapse onto the floor.

“Help!” I closed my eyes immediately while I fumbled and let out a loud scream, desperately calling for assistance. I pleaded for some water to cleanse my face, but all I heard was laughter.

“Poor thing! Could you believe that she actually wants to take advantage of the situation to satisfy her hunger with the food I have?” Ophelia chuckled, and they continued to laugh as I felt a burning sensation in my eyes, causing tears to flow uncontrollably.

“Help me, please. II'm losing my… vvision! I need assistance with water, please!”

I shouted and trembled, desperately attempting to remove them using my hand, but nobody shows concern.

The only thing I could hear afterwards was the tinkling noise of their silverware and dishes, indicating that they had already begun eating without any concern for my presence.

I tried my best to open my eyes, hoping I could handle everything and make it to the kitchen sink, but it was useless.

I only assisted the ones clinging to my eyelashes to enter my eyes, resulting in excruciating agony that violently shook my entire body. “Ahh!”

Once more, my eyes closed on their own accord, and this time I was unable to reopen them; darkness enveloped my world.

“HHelp me, pplease.” As I searched, cleaned my eyes, and cried out for assistance, my eyes felt more of the painful sensation.

I felt an intense burning sensation behind my eyes, as if they were being engulfed in flames. I couldn't even open them.

“Could someone please assist me? Can someone please bring me water so I can rinse my eyes? It's extremely painful! Please!"

As I let out loud sobs, the sound echoed through the walls. I struggled to navigate my way to the bathroom, relying on my senses.

However, my mind was foggy, intensifying the unbearable agony my eyes were experiencing.

“Shut up, will you? You have to be quiet while we finish our meal. It wouldn't be fair to ask any of us to interrupt our eating to fetch water for you!” Vivien shouted without any regard for the excruciating agony I was experiencing.

“She brought it upon herself, I felt the urge to hit her in the face, but she attempted to appear clever by using the spoon as a defense! She should not have helped herself to a spoonful from my plate!” Ophelia complained while they continued to eat while I was losing my vision.

My dress was wet from the tears streaming down my face, and I was covered in sweat as I crawled on the floor, panting and sobbing in intense pain.

“I hope she becomes visually impaired from this point forward! Perhaps that is the retribution bestowed by the Moon Goddess for taking the life of my mate!”

I was taken aback when my dad contributed, and it made me flinch.

His voice's icy chill stabbed my heart, causing intense pain. The agony of hearing my father's words was overwhelming, causing me to let out a loud cry.

The intense dislike was genuine and it would never diminish as I anticipated; I understood the depth of my father's affection for my mother, treating her with utmost care like a precious jewel.

I anticipated his disdain for me after her death, but not to such a degree. I am still his daughter, the fruit of their bond.

I believed that his anger would diminish as the year came to an end, but I was unaware that it would actually intensify every time he encountered me.

“I believe she has understood her mistake; we should instruct the guards to give her a bath.” Ophelia let out a snort, and her words echoed in my ear like a bell, jangling and pounding my mind with their meaning.

I could hear her perfectly, but I couldn't bring myself to accept that my ears didn't trick me just now.

“Yes, that's a great suggestion for someone like her who practices witchcraft!” Vivien let out a frustrated sigh, and I could hear my father summon the guards.

"Undress her and assist with her bath in the bathroom," my father commanded, and I was shocked, shaking my head as I sobbed, more warm tears streaming down my face.

‘No, please. No!’

I felt my lips trembling, and I longed to be able to open my eyes and escape; running seemed like the ideal choice, but being visually impaired prevented me from doing so.

The idea of these guards witnessing my unclothed form gave me a shiver.

"DDad, please reconsider your command. Please? DDon’t listen to Ophelia's words! She’s not…” I got scared and my voice broke.

I couldn't find the courage to tell him once more about Ophelia's true identity.

That moment, I realized that my father was serious when he promised to make my life a living nightmare, as his biological child.

I made a foolish mistake believing that being my father would lessen the torment. And now, I will find myself exposed before these ordinary sentinels, whom I had previously commanded.

The royal lineage within me sent shivers down my spine, leaving me utterly shaken. I just wished it wouldn't occur.

‘How can I face these men once they witness my nudity?’

“Can't you hear anything?! Please follow my instructions precisely!” My father roared, pounding his fist on the table, and my jaw dropped as I struggled to breathe.

The intense discomfort in my eyes cannot be compared to the distress my heart experiences.

“DDad, please don't do this to me!” I cried, holding onto myself tightly, as I couldn't determine my location within the room.

“The audacity, huh? Even though you've disowned her years ago, she still continues to refer to you as daddy. That is not right!” Vivien complained, and I sensed a pang in my heart from her words, then my father chimed in.

“I know. And that is the reason she should receive any possible penalty on this world. Such a stubborn and coldhearted person! I don’t have a daughter like her!” He let out a contemptuous snort, devoid of any sympathy or care in his tone.

“Please…” I attempted to plead once more, but before I could utter a word, the sound of loud footsteps echoed, and suddenly, four powerful hands seized hold of my limbs, forcing me into silence.

“No!”

SERENITY

“PPlease… Spare me, please? CCan… can you please disobey my father on this? You can't strip me! Just… just wash my face. Please, just let me rinse my face with water so I can remove the dirt in my eyes," I begged as I stepped onto the bathroom floor.

“Don’t worry. We had no intention of following his orders. We will not engage in that," one of them stated, and I let out a deep breath of relief.

I had no idea that someone actually felt a hint of sympathy towards me. They dumped an entire bucket of water onto my face and handed me another one to rinse off the stew splatters that covered my face.

I quickly rinsed my eyes completely until I could see clearly once more. Even though the pain still lingers, I was overjoyed to be able to see once more.

I faced the guards, smiling broadly, ready to express my gratitude, but I wasn’t able to do so because the sound of the bathroom door squeaking open.

Vivien was positioned directly by the entrance, wearing an expression of anger.

“What are you doing, huh? You went against my father, the Alpha!” The sound of her voice echoed within the walls, causing the bodyguards to immediately drop to the ground, begging her not to inform on them.

Every single one of them was terrified to the very depths of their being, trembling intensely.

“Do you realize the consequences of your actions for him? Oh no, someone will demise, for sure! Every guard follows the Alpha's orders without question. And that will make you alive!” She shouted loudly, and I remained frozen in place.

“Vivien, can you spare this one for me, just this one time? I kindly request that you refrain from doing this to them. Feel free to penalize me, but please refrain from involving innocent individuals in my wretched existence.”

“No way! I won't let anything prevent me from informing my father! I'm happy to have someone to testify!" She let out an annoyed breath, and I glanced over to find Ophelia smirking mockingly at me as she entered, gracefully moving her hips beneath the elegant gown she had on.

A surge of anger rose within me as I met her gaze. ‘That was my mother’s most favorite gown. How could she wear it just like that?’

The shimmering jewels encircling it, along with its exquisite and costly craftsmanship, rendered it truly extraordinary.

I felt annoyed when I saw Ophelia, that demon, wearing the dress, acting as if she’s the real Luna of this pack, but all I could do was mope sadly because there was nothing I could do.

“Luna, could you please... we are just...” One of the guards started to plead.

“Continue with your task! Undress her immediately as we observe!” Ophelia interrupted, giggling and putting her arm around Vivien's shoulder, giving me a selfsatisfied expression.

I furrowed my brow, questioning whether I had heard her correctly. It seems like my ear transmitted an incorrect sound to my brain for processing, or my brain didn't interpret the message accurately.

One of these events must have taken place, as it is impossible for it to be true.

“Yes, go on! Complete the task immediately!” Vivien giggled and took out her cellphone.

The guards, driven by instinct to protect themselves, stood up and faced me with serious expressions that indicated they were unwilling to hear my pleas on this occasion.

“We apologize, but we don't have any alternative.” As they advanced, one of them whispered quietly.

“VVivien, no, please? Do you plan on seeing me unclothed?” I stuttered when I noticed her pointing her phone's camera at me.

My eyes burned with tears and they flowed like two streams as I reluctantly shuffled my feet, praying that my worst fears were not coming true.

Ophelia suddenly started laughing, while Vivien chuckled and gave me a selfsatisfied expression.

“Yep! My school friends would be thrilled to see you bare, unclothed! Perhaps it could persuade a few boys in my class to spend an evening with you. As I can tell, dear princess, you have a strong desire for sex, right?" Vivien spatted with a smirk on her face.

The words she just uttered were incredibly repulsive and revolting, causing me to almost vomit.

“What? How dare you! Please, stop! Refrain from making physical contact with me.” I alerted the royal guards, but they completely ignored me and continued their actions as if I hadn't spoken at all.

I attempted to run away, but I was immediately apprehended and forcefully pushed against the wall after taking only a few steps.

The three guards had become extremely cruel and completely ignored anything I said. Two individuals forcefully seized my hands and legs, using their strong arms to immobilize me completely.

The final person grasped the top of my dress, and as I let out a scream, he forcefully tore it, exposing my bra.

“No, please! Stop! Please!” I let out a loud cry, but nothing came to a halt.

Everything unfolded like a terrible dream when my dress was ripped apart, splitting into two pieces, revealing my underwear in the process.

Ophelia and Vivien erupted into another mocking laughter during the recording.

“This video is going to be the ultimate sensation on the internet. And a more fitting consequence for the wickedness you inflicted upon this pack! Dad is going to really enjoy this!"

Vivien chuckled, and those remarks felt like painful blades stabbing my heart. I couldn't forget her laughter; it lingered in my mind like creatures in the darkness.

The men were removing my garments and would soon proceed to my bra. I sensed a throbbing pain in my head, and my heart tightened with intense anger as I fought fruitlessly to release myself.

I squeezed my eyes closed, and my teeth started chattering with fear as I anticipated what was going to occur. It would be a major embarrassment, and my life would be forever altered.

‘How can I possibly face them once my nakedness becomes widely known?’

I clenched my hands into a fist, but I was helpless as the two strong guards pressed them against the wall.

Initially, they hesitated to undo my bra or lower my panties, but Vivien was eager.

“Come on, what are you waiting for? Remove her bra and panties swiftly to complete this task. I require a quality video, or else you may face the consequences from my father! Don’t worry, she’s no longer your Alpha’s daughter. She’s just now a useless slave! Act towards her as if she was just a mere trash!”

Vivien's annoying voice echoed in my ears as she cautioned them, leaving me breathless while vigorously shaking my head.

“No, no. Please, no!” I continued pleading and screaming at the highest volume, while tears flowed down my face like flowing rivers.

As an Alpha by nature, I found the sensation of their hands on my bare skin to be bothersome and repulsive. My heart was completely broken.

I had my eyes wide open, and I noticed that Vivien was pointing her camera at me. It was more than I could have expected for all the wrongs I had done.

‘Once the entire pack views this video, what remains of my existence?’

I would become a source of amusement, subject to ridicule even from the young ones.

My mind was flooded with frightening thoughts, and my inner wolf couldn't contain itself any longer, starting to escape from its cage. However, I was aware that I was no match for anyone.

Even though I had completed my shift, my wolf ended up being the least strong and could be beaten by even the lowestranking Omega.

This was one of the reasons why my father despised me for being his daughter. Taking the life of his partner, but I could never match the dominance and abilities of an Alpha.

“Continue! If she attempts to resist, strike her! Show no mercy to a heartless murderer like her, or else you will be caught as her partner in crime!” Ophelia joined the conversation and greeted Vivien with a smile.

Vivien responded with laughter before she left, giving me another look as if she was anticipating something from me.

Right at that moment, utilizing the collective power of my wolf companion, I managed to free my right hand from the grip of a guard and swiftly deliver a forceful punch, as well as a headbutt to the guard standing before me.

Perhaps it was a mistake to do everything I did. Perhaps it would have been better if I had remained composed and confronted my harsh destiny.

The actions I took ignited a strong anger within the royal guards, and in an instant, they started to unleash a barrage of powerful punches and kicks upon me.

I felt intense pain all over my body, and my lips were already bleeding from a forceful kick to my face. I felt a fiery ache in my stomach, causing me to whimper in agony instead of screaming.

“Enough everyone, step away from her. Instead, could someone fetch a whip made of wolfsbane? I would like to give her a few strokes before I leave for school.”

Vivien placed an order, causing my heart to race with anxiety. I still recall the pain I felt, and now I can't imagine having them once more.

The bodyguards abandoned me, leaving me in agony. However, I was aware that the pain I was experiencing was nothing compared to the agony I would endure once Vivien struck me with the whip made from wolf's bane.

I doubted my ability to endure, thus I found myself pleading for my existence.

“VVi… VVivien… please…” Getting up on my knees, I started to beg Vivien.

Despite her dropping her phone, she quickly picked it up again to capture me pleading for mercy. She laughed heartily, but I'm not bothered by the embarrassment, even if it shatters me.

The most important thing was that my life had significance.

“Vivien, please… I beg you, cease causing me agony. Could you please? I never mistreated you or caused you any harm in the past. We are not foes. Why are you now treating me differently just because you have a higher status? I kindly request that you cease...”

I cried softly, tears streaming down my cheeks while my hair fell in a messy and unkempt manner across my face.

I felt a fiery ache in my stomach, accompanied by intense hunger. Even my head couldn't prevent the throbbing sensation.

Beside the pain in various areas of my body caused by the intense beating from the bodyguards earlier.

“Poor you. But sorry, you will not be able to stop me. I take pleasure in witnessing your despairing tears. It brings me happiness and contentment. It gives me a stronger sense of being the Alpha's daughter...” She smiled and quickly hid her phone behind her.

At that moment, the guard came back holding the whip, which was crackling like hot oil.

The object had been drenched in wolfsbane and would cause my skin to rip upon contact, not to mention the pain of being whipped with it.

“Leave, you are free to go now.” As she received it from the guard, she flashed a smile in his direction before facing me.

However, the guard seemed hesitant. He appeared to have something to say to her, but he was a little afraid.

“What? Why are you still just standing there?” Vivien growled while giving a stern look, causing him to tremble.

However, he still approached and leaned in closer to her, his eyes filled with intense terror about something I couldn't discern.

Vivien heard him softly speak into her ear, causing her to recoil and shudder with a sudden gasp, her eyes widening in the same fearful shock as the guard.

“Really? Are you referring to Lycan?” I caught a faint whisper escape her lips.

I felt perplexed and gazed at them, pondering what the guard might have said to elicit such fear from the powerful Vivien.

The whip she was holding dropped from her hand in surprise when he whispered something to her.

I opened my mouth to ask and understand the situation, but at that moment, something peculiar and surprising occurred.

I detected an aroma with my nose. The delightful fragrance encompassed all the lovely things my thoughts could imagine.

The scent of vanilla and sandalwood, combined with a hint of citrus, captivated my senses and enveloped me in its powerful and comforting embrace.

“Serenity, our mate!” Bewilderment followed when my wolf suddenly howled.

SERENITY

“Mate! Our mate is here!” Maia, my tiny wolf, let out a loud cry once more out of surprise and doubt as I quickly got up, trying to figure out if it was actually happening or some sort of deception.

After the guards whispered something in Vivien's ear, she quickly dropped the whip and disappeared from the room.

The news appeared to be extremely alarming, as it was the only explanation for Vivien's intense panic, to the point where she even forgot she was about to harm me.

Although I was confused about its nature, I couldn't resist expressing gratitude to the guard who had recently rescued me from a painful ordeal.

“Did you not hear Vivien talk about the Lycan a moment ago?” The frightened voice of Maia resonated, causing my jaw to fall open as I suddenly realized the cause of her fear.

‘If a Lycan had come to our pack then that means… we will face a terrible disaster. It means a doom to our pack.’

Lycans are wicked and possess greater strength. They are highly skilled in all areas where we cannot compete with them. Even a group of ten werewolves would not be able to defeat a single ordinary Lycan in combat.

I quickly exited the room, wrapping my partially exposed body with my arms as I hurriedly headed towards my room along the corridors, running without caution as my face turned red with embarrassment and frustration.

The guards standing outside were staring at me intensely, and it made me feel uncomfortable as I ran faster, pushing my legs to their limits.

Irrespective of the events that occurred in my life, it remained unchanged that I was the daughter of the Alpha. I still had royal blood flowing through my veins.

The majestic packhouse was constructed as a threelevel structure, featuring extensive corridors on each floor that interconnect rooms through staircases.

Although the palace was situated on the second level, my room was located on the ground floor.

I was brought to a restroom by the guards on the top floor of the palace's threestory building. To get to my own restroom, I had to go down to the first floor, which meant I would have to walk through the palace hallway.

As soon as I reached the hallway on the second floor, it was completely silent, as if there was nobody around.

It seemed as if everyone had departed or had been cautioned to remain silent. As usual, there were no security personnel present in the vicinity, which was both unusual and perplexing.

I walked softly and carefully to prevent violating any potential rules of silence, if they existed.

As I approached the palace door, the final room before the descending stairs, I once again caught a whiff of someone's soothing and incredibly fragrant aroma, the scent of my mate.

However, this time it was more intense and overpowering than before.

A delightful scent entered my nose, enveloping me completely and captivating my mind. It was so amazing that I couldn't move for a short time, experiencing a captivating feeling on my entire body.

“Serenity, listen. Our mate, he is within the palace. The person we had been anticipating to save us from the dreadful pit. Finding our soulmate will bring an end to our pain as he will cherish us and rescue us from this place! We are still incredibly fortunate!”

I felt a surge of joy as my wolf playfully jumped and chirped within me. I couldn't help but smile as I became captivated by the enticing scent of my mate.

With a rush of excitement, I hurried to my room and grabbed a dress from the clothing rack. I didn't even have time to notice its color or quality as I quickly made my way back, eagerly heading towards the palace.

I had completely overlooked the eerie quietness and Vivien's anxiety about the existence of a Lycan in the pack.

I couldn't think clearly because of everything going on, and my mind was solely focused on my mate. Encountering him and embracing him tightly as we immerse ourselves in the intense emotions of our deep connection.

My father once told me that I would never find a mate due to a supposed curse, but he was clearly mistaken.

Today, he would realize that I was similar to every other wolf. At the age of eighteen, a female wolf discovered her soulmate and they would live in eternal happiness together, destined by the moon goddess.

I regained my composure when I pushed open the door to the palace. At that very instant, as I stood before the entire crowd, I suddenly realized the perilous situation I had placed myself in.

It's not only risky, but also a selfdestructive decision. I finally realized the reason behind everyone's silence. It became clear to me why Vivien was shaking like a frightened little kid who had just encountered a terrifying creature.

Perhaps it would have been better if I had immediately gone to my room and concealed myself. I regret coming here, it would have prevented this situation.

However, the most terrifying aspect was still on the horizon.

“Is he... the one? Our… destined mate?” I was terrified as my wolf stuttered, and I desperately wished the ground would open up and swallow me.

It was especially horrifying when he lifted his head and locked eyes with me, his glowing red eyes resembling those of a creature.

I was overcome with fear and anxiety when I saw his monstrous appearance. He was a combination of a man and a wolf, and his size was incredibly intimidating.

However, despite my fear, I couldn't help but be drawn to the captivating scent emanating from his body.

‘He was still… my mate! But how can a Lycan be a werewolf’s mate? What kind of humor was the lunar deity pulling off?’

The terrifying creature occupied my father's seat of power, while everyone else, including my dad, lay flat on the ground, bowing in submission and terror.

Our gazes met, and I noticed him narrowing his eyes in confusion, examining me carefully as if he was searching for something.

I was expected to bend like everyone else because, from the corner of my vision, I could perceive my father signaling for me to lower myself, but I'm unsure why it felt so difficult for me.

This man right there, had turned out to be my mate, and my heart was pounding for whoever he might be.

Despite being a Lycan, I felt no fear or whatsoever. Instead, I desired to rush into his embrace for protection.

He was my source of hope, while my father only cared about the pack and not about me.

Right at that exact moment, he transformed into a human with such speed and enchantment that I couldn't help but be impressed.

However, what truly astonished me was the incredibly attractive and charismatic young man standing before me in his true appearance.

I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my heart when I saw him. A surprised gasp escaped my mouth, and my eyes instantly filled with tears as I found myself staring at him with admiration.

He had an irresistible charm, with his sunkissed complexion and wavy chestnut locks cascading around his welldefined face.

His captivating gaze, now resembling the color of the sea, added to his allure. He wore a majestic gray robe adorned with orbs and pearls, which made him look like a deity from ancient Greece.

“Who is this filthy swine?” I listened to his voice for the very first time, and I couldn't even detect the anger in it.

All I heard were deep, satisfying sounds that I found enjoyable.

“We are… we are mates!” I let out a joyful scream to him using the mental bond, the mindlink, that I hastily established by tapping into our connection as mates.

A wide smile spread across my face as I walked towards him, filled with happiness at last discovering my partner.

However, my excitement quickly vanished when he growled and stood up from the chair, anger evident in his eyes as he stared at me.

In an instant, he stood up from the throne and swiftly charged towards me.

Smash!

With great force, he delivered a strong punch to my stomach, causing an intense, piercing pain. I was thrown against the wall and then forcefully thrown back onto the floor.

“Ahhh!” I screamed in pain as my eyes stung and tears streamed down my face.

I held onto my stomach and gritted my teeth, feeling the intense agony as if my life was slipping away.

However, it seems that my mate is not finished with me yet.

To my surprise, I witnessed him raise his bulky, coarse boot and forcefully bring it down onto my face. Bang!

Fortunately, I managed to swiftly evade it, causing him to strike the ground instead. I was filled with dread as I watched the tiled floor shatter under the impact of his feet.

A strong sense of fear washed over me like a turbulent ocean, and in that moment, I was incredibly shaken and unable to comprehend what was happening.

All I could do was sit up and gaze in confusion at my attractive mate, who seemed completely unfamiliar to me now.

He glared at me with the ferocity of a famished lion pursuing its elusive prey.

I was the target. Me, who was his mate was the target, and recently, he nearly smashed my face.

‘Did I just have a dream? Was this all part of another nightmare?’

“Refrain yourself from talking! I'd rather not hear the word 'mate' from anyone!” He shouted at me using mindlink, and I started to vigorously nod my head, retreating in fear as he moved closer towards me.

“II promise… I… I won't utter those words again. I apologize. I kindly request that you refrain from physically harming me. Please spare my life. I'm sorry for my lack of intelligence. Could you kindly...” As the blow to my stomach intensified, a wave of pulsating pain spread throughout my body, causing me to sob uncontrollably.

I can't fathom what it would be like to receive any more blows from him. There is a possibility that I could perish immediately.

He suddenly stopped walking towards me and gazed at me intently for a brief moment.

“In that case, there's no problem, as long as you avoid bringing it up.” He forced a smile and then turned around, making his way back to the throne.

“Please, everyone, find a seat and sit down. I have a couple of things to mention.” He spoke brusquely, exuding an air of dominance and strength in his vocal delivery.

There was something unique about his energy. His incredible power was evident in every word he uttered, yet my heart was overwhelmed with excruciating agony as I helplessly observed him, while the stench of despair assaulted my senses.

After eagerly anticipating my soulmate as my rescuer for many years, I ultimately discovered a malevolent being as my mate someone who would harm me if I referred to them as my mate.

A person who referred to me as a filthy swine with disdain in his tone.

He belonged to the group of cruel Lycans, whom my mother had cautioned me against associating with due to their monstrous nature.

‘Moon Goddess, until when will I suffer?’

Chapter 7 Preview

SERENITY

The sound of my ribs breaking was horrifying, and I felt intense pain spreading throughout my body, rendering me unable to move.

A throbbing pain. I experienced an agonizing ache, caused by both his blow and the intense animosity in his gaze. The scent remained strong, and the more I inhaled it, the more shattered I felt.

The pain was so intense that I wished the earth would open up and engulf me, causing me to disappear from existence.

I felt like my life had come to an end, and the idea of dying seemed very tempting at the moment.

I had a coughing fit and a thick crimson liquid sprayed out of my mouth. I felt my lips quiver and my eyes well up with tears that streamed down my face like neverending rivers, scorching my skin.

I let out a deep groan as a sharp pain shot through my stomach, a painful reminder that my destined mate had struck me with such force, as if they wished for my demise.

‘But how is this possible? Why would he do that?’

I couldn't believe my eyes as I glanced up at the Lycan, making sure I wasn't imagining things. However, the heartless man didn't even acknowledge my presence. It seemed as if he had completely overlooked my presence.

As soon as I let out a cough, all the people in the palace turned their heads to look at me. However, my coldhearted mate didn't even bother to acknowledge my presence.

I sat hunched on the ground, feeling defeated and broken. I experienced intense pain in my stomach and chest, making it difficult for me to even scream.

However, I didn't have the bravery to interrupt him with my suffering. I couldn't even express my pain through screams while he was speaking, as I feared he would become furious and harm me.

The chill on his face made me close my mouth instantly. All I could manage was a quiet whimper and groan, as I attempted to endure the pain using my wolflike ability to heal.

The force of his punch was incredibly strong. Whenever I caught a glimpse of the shattered tiles on the floor, I couldn't help but imagine that it could have been my head if I hadn't managed to avoid it.

Fear would instantly grip my heart, causing it to sink into my stomach. I was nearly killed by my destined mate simply for referring to him as my mate.

‘Why did I have to be so unfortunate to end up with such a creature as a mate?’

Even my wolf, who was thrilled about having a mate, can't stop howling in disappointment and extreme sadness.

“Lycan…” I attempted to communicate with my mate once more using mindlink, but I quickly realized that he had already severed the link, preventing my thoughts from reaching him.

‘Is he filled with such intense dislike for me upon our initial meeting?’

‘Didn't I become his mate to melt his heart and captivate him with an immediate love upon our first meeting?’

He didn't refuse me, but he also didn't agree. After striking me, he simply cautioned me to never bring up the term ‘mate’ in his presence ever again.

‘That's so heartless... That’s so cruel of him…’

“Everyone, let me introduce myself first. I am Maximus, the prince of the Lycans, as I'm sure you are all aware. Right now, I need everyone's full attention. I will only say this once, and I expect complete compliance. Any defiance will not be tolerated.” The Lycan started to discuss with the pack members after his brief of silence since he attacked me.

Had it not been for the coarseness and intimidation in his face and eyes, I might have interpreted the silence as an indication of regret.

His voice resonated with the power of thunder, emitting a captivating and intense energy that left everyone frozen in place.

I let out a startled breath when he revealed himself as the prince of the Lycans.

However, it appeared that I was the sole individual who had just come to the realization that he was not merely a Lycan, but rather the prince, as no one reacted in the same way I did.

I understand now. This really clarified why my dad turned into a puppet in front of the Lycan.

I am aware of his immense courage and lack of fear, however, every werewolf was well aware that no matter how brave one may be, it would be futile to try and escape the fury of the Lycan prince, who holds dominion over the armies of the Lycans.

I finally understand why my mate had such a strong and terrifying presence that could make anyone lose their bravery and feel weak.

His presence had the ability to seep into the walls, causing a collective shiver of fear among us.

A sense of fear overwhelmed me as my inner wolf retreated deep within, quivering with fright. It's hard to believe that my wolf and I become scared of the man who was supposed to accept us as his beloved mate.

‘Why is my life in such disarray?’

I glanced up at his face once more and noticed how he stood confidently, with welldefined muscles visible in every area of his physique, particularly his strong arms and wide chest, despite his loosefitting longsleeved robe.

It subtly indicated the immense power and strength possessed by this individual.

He coughed to regain his voice, his expression becoming even more serious, causing everyone to feel more anxious as we anticipated his next words.

He delicately moved his hand across his nose, wiping it softly, and emitted a snort as if he had detected a strong odor.

I sensed that my scent was causing him to rub his nose in annoyance, and it deeply saddened me.

Perhaps he could have a girlfriend who is also a Lycan, and witnessing a werewolf like myself becoming his mate has ignited anger and repulsion within him.

However, during my mother's lifetime, she reassured me that my mate would adore me in ways I couldn't fathom, cherishing me like a queen and valuing me as the most treasured aspect of his being.

Prior to my mother's passing, we would often spend time together on the balcony. I would sit on her lap as she shared stories and knowledge about the special connection called mate bond, particularly for those of us with royal lineage.

The story was so captivating that it made me imagine experiencing a day similar to it.

On the day I reached the age of eighteen, I unexpectedly encountered my incredibly attractive soulmate who shares the same royal lineage as me.

Our hearts, souls, and bodies were inexplicably drawn to each other.

The way she explained everything was incredibly touching, and I eagerly anticipated the arrival of that day.

My mother didn't mention anything about rejecting a mate or feeling hatred towards anyone.

When I asked her if it was a possibility, she assured me that it could never happen to me, because I am special being the princess of the pack.

‘But now? What's happening here?’ My mate nearly caused my demise in a horrifying manner just now.

“Just to let you know, I arrived here because I will temporarily reside in this pack alongside you, vulnerable creatures. I am familiar with the faces of everyone present, thus I feel compelled to deliver a cautionary message to each and every one of you…”

“I don't want anyone to know about my real identity as a Lycan. I arrived here with the intention of leading a regular life, free from any unfortunate incidents or calamities. However, should you choose to defy me, your actions may compel me to engage in such behavior.”

“Tonight, I will be staying in this luxurious lodge, while a different lodge will be constructed within the next day for me and my warrior guards to reside in, anywhere within this area.” The Lycan conversed with regality and authority, and everyone in the room nodded in agreement, saying ‘Yes, sir,’ repeatedly.

“If anyone from outside this pack ever behaves in a way that shows they found out I'm not a werewolf but a Lycan, it means someone has revealed my true identity. The consequence for all of you is death! Was I able to convey my message effectively?” He inquired firmly, and they all responded with nods, bowing their heads.

He continuously evaded eye contact, directing his gaze anywhere but towards me.

As I gazed deeper into his expressionless countenance, it grew increasingly intimidating and horrifying.

“That’s all I could say, I think I’m done for now. I've said everything I wanted to express. This is an uncomplicated order, and failure to comply will result in death. Take note of that!” He finished speaking, and they all nodded in agreement, except for me.

I was primarily worried about what would happen to me. He had no intention of mentioning me, his fated mate, as if I didn't exist to him.

With grace and grandeur, he descended the small staircase below the royal seat. Once more, everyone in the room lowered their heads.

“What? Move! Are all of you crazy? Why are you still sitting there with your head down? Who will be responsible for organizing the room where I will be staying?” With a sudden bark, fear gripped everyone in the room, causing them to startle.

“Go ahead, help him! Please go to my room and collect all of my things. Then, kindly give them to him.” Without thinking twice, my dad yelled, causing all the housekeepers to rush out and do their assigned tasks.

I understand that they were simply too frightened to remain in that palace any further.

At that moment, the Lycan finally looked at me, directly on the ground, where I remained seated with my knees pulled up to my chest.

I felt a strong, pulsating fear engulf me, causing me to close my mouth tightly and recoil as I noticed his eyes fixed on me.

It would have been wonderful if his eyes were serene, but unfortunately, they were not. I could only perceive flashes of animosity emanating from it.

“You! Guide me to the garden! Now!” He spoke abruptly, causing me to flinch.

I narrowed my eyes and glanced to the side, questioning if his words were directed at me.

“Yes, you! Are you deaf too, you filthy servant!” He growled, clenching his jaw in complete irritation, so I promptly rose, flinching as my stomach pained me further.

“I apologize, sir.” I muttered sadly, swiftly walking away from the room without glancing back or verifying if he was coming after me.

I never want to lay eyes on him or be near him right now.

“Take your time moving, slave!” He yelled at me and my legs froze in place, tears welling up in my eyes.

‘Why is he referring to me as a slave? I am his mate! And what's the reason behind his request to see the garden all of a sudden?’

I simply desired to flee and keep a great distance from him but I know I couldn’t. He has shattered my heart and destroyed my very essence, piece by piece.

I felt even unhappier at that moment, and each instance of mistreatment or cruelty from my father or Ophelia appeared insignificant compared to the pain inflicted by him, my fated mate.

The sole individual whom I had hoped to love and show concern for me has also turned his back to me, referring to me as a servant.

He showed no interest in inquiring about me, his mate, and my scent was bothersome to him.

Perhaps it would be better if I were to end my life, as this burden is overwhelming.

‘I couldn’t handle what could happen next.’

SERENITY

The journey was brief, but by the time we reached the garden, I was perspiring and my heart was pounding in my chest.

I felt nervous and had a lump in my throat that I had to swallow. I had to face difficulties in order to reach the garden without falling.

I felt my legs tremble as he walked closely behind me. I was aware of his gaze fixed on me, so I made sure not to look back even once.

‘Who would dare to gaze upon the countenance of such a creature?’ I complied with his request to walk at a leisurely pace, even though I didn't agree.

I hadn't intended to comply when he referred to me as a slave, but his voice was incredibly dominating and appeared to have complete power over my perceptions.

Arriving at the garden, I couldn't resist letting out a big sigh of relief. I promptly positioned myself at the corner, eagerly anticipating his entrance so I could depart, or rather sprint away as fast as possible.

The garden stretched out as far as the eye could see, decorated with the most beautiful flowers one could ever imagine.

There were also trees filled with the melodies of singing birds, who built their homes on the branches. Multiple rivers converge at the intersections.

Inside, you'll find custommade wooden chairs designed specifically for two people. I loved this garden more than anything else because of the scent of the forest and the refreshing wind that brings peace to the mind and spirit.

The view of nature's splendor was truly captivating. I can only remember how much I used to love this place.

However, they are all in the past and are now cherished memories that can never be recreated. If I were to enter this place, my father would be furious and punish me severely.

Furthermore, the royal guards would apprehend me and physically assault me for trying to access the garden.

My life turned chaotic and disorganized after I caused the death of my mother. It was a wonderful feeling to come back here once more, but being with my mischievous mate made me feel restless, preventing me from fully enjoying whatever was in the garden.

A few minutes later, he entered through the gate, which made me curious about why it took him so much time.

I was certain that he was right behind me when I entered. His eyes lit up with excitement as he beheld the garden's stunning beauty. It was clear to me in an instant that he shared my deep affection for it.

Perhaps I ought to develop a dislike for this garden, so that I no longer share any similarities with this creature.

“Woah!” He looked around in awe, taking deep breaths and extending his arms to let the air flow through his entire being.

I observed as his mouth attempted to form a smile but failed to do so. It appeared as though he despised smiling, as I fail to comprehend why he refuses to relax his attractive countenance and illuminate it with his grin. Imagine how adorable he would appear with a genuine smile on his face.

I stood at the corner, eagerly awaiting his command to depart, while also hoping for a smile from him, my hands tightly clasped in front of me.

I must say, the garden is incredibly stunning and truly a sight to behold. Everyone who enters this place will not only have a smile but also a wide smile on their face. I suppose I was referring to individuals who are ordinary, as opposed to this merciless Lycan present.

He wandered aimlessly, admiring the flowers, before eventually making his way to the waterfall, which was located a short distance away.

Afterwards, he went back to the forest, where he picked a few fruits and sat down to savor them. He was acting as if I don’t exist in the garden, and not telling me what to do next.

“Serenity, let’s go! Why are we just standing here?! We should leave? It's clear that he doesn't have anything else to offer us!” Maia howled at me, and I sensed the sincerity in her words.

I feel foolish for remaining here after he simply asked me to guide him to the garden.

‘What more could I have anticipated from him?’

I thought I might be the one acting strangely because I stayed there simply to observe if he would smile and also to anticipate any words, he might say to me.

‘I wonder why he's not communicating with his mate?’

I find this guy incredibly bothersome and strange. I believe I would anticipate finding a different mate as this individual does not seem to be the suitable one to share my life with indefinitely.

I walked towards the exit gate, trying to ignore the urge to wait for him to call me back. I felt really lost and my emotions were all jumbled up.

“What was that? Why did you make a hissing sound towards me?” As I was about to pass through the gate, I heard a low growl coming from behind me.

I felt a surge of fear in my chest, and the unexpected sound startled me so much that I stumbled.

I was taken by surprise when he appeared right next to me, speaking out of nowhere.

I didn't hear his footsteps or realize he was nearby. As I was leaving, he was seated on a distant bench, so I was completely taken aback and ended up standing beside me.

I stumbled, but instead of falling to the ground, I managed to stay upright. And instead, I found myself embraced by someone...

‘Oh, I need to say his name since it's only the two of us present.’

I was nestled in his strong embrace, feeling the sweetness of our connection.

‘Oh my goodness!’ This is the first time I experienced such a comforting and pleasant feeling.

When I looked at him and saw him staring at me, it felt as if everything had come to a halt.

His face was incredibly near, and those captivating eyes stole my spirit from my physical form.

His rosy, full lips were slightly parted, and I had no idea that such a small detail could make someone's lips incredibly alluring, making it impossible to resist.

I'm probably blushing a lot right now, and I saw that he noticed my flushed cheeks and frowned, so I had to hide my face.

I couldn't help but stare at his face; it was so flawless that it seemed unreal. This guy resembled a Greek God. How I wish I could give him a kiss.

I hope he could pick me up and hold me like a bride while I put my arms around his neck. We would then go into the center of the garden and have a great time, talking and laughing while admiring its beauty.

‘But no. You, poor thing…’

I had such a lovely, dreamy experience. Unattainable desires that can only come true within the realm of my dreams and imagination.

“Answer my question! Did you just hissed at me?” He let out a sigh and quickly let go of my hand.

I fell to the ground immediately, crushing all those hopes in an instant as a sharp ache surged through my buttocks and elbows from the hard impact on a rock.

“Aw!” I cried out in agony, my lips splitting open, while I tightly held my hand. Tears welled up in my eyes, streaming down my face.

“You wouldn't dare to hiss at me, and by the way, where were you headed?” With a contemptuous expression on his face, he asked, towering over me like a solid barrier.

“No, I wasn't making a hissing sound towards you, and in the meantime, I was about to leave as you witnessed. What other activities am I engaged in at this place? I was just instructed to guide you to the garden. You didn't engage in conversation or acknowledge my presence, so I assumed that I might be a burden here.”

I replied abruptly, massaging my rear end and finding it difficult to rise while the discomfort continued to intensify.

“Yes, that’s right. I didn't have a conversation with you, and why didn't you speak up to let me know you were present?” He angrily crossed his arms.

I glanced up at him and felt frustrated by his complete lack of concern for my significant tumble.

“Could you just please give me some space? I'm suffering on the floor, and you don't even show any concern! Can't you understand my suffering and sorrow?” I exclaimed and was on the verge of rolling my eyes and turning my gaze elsewhere when I caught sight of the initial spark of empathy that flickered in his eyes.

“Why? Are you looking for assistance to stand up from the ground?” He muttered in a dry tone, extending his hand for to give assistance.

I held onto it tightly, and he effortlessly lifted me up. However, due to the strength of his pull, I ended up landing on top of him.

“I'm convinced that you weigh less than a sheet of paper.” He let out a sigh and moved away from me.

"I can't believe you lack the ability to treat women with care," I replied with a boisterous chuckle that caused him to scowl.

“What do you mean? Why should I treat you with care?” He inquired with great interest. He was narrowing his eyes in my direction.

“Since I am your...” I grinned as I observed him snarl with a cautionary gaze.

“Stop before you regret doing so!” He frowned, and I felt scared.

“Look, I mean… It wouldn't make a difference. We both detected the scent of each other and..."

“Stop the nonsense, will you? And no, I couldn't detect any scent from you!” He suddenly snapped and let out a loud hiss before taking a seat on the nearby bench.

“Same goes for me,” I quickly reacted, making a sharp sound and taking a seat on the bench at the same time as him. And with that, it caused him to look at me with confusion.

“Listen, you filthy swine. You have no clue about the peril you are heading towards. Continue to savor the journey until you find yourself immersed in a fiery lake!”

He was furious, and his intimidating tone nearly caused me to panic, but suddenly all my fear vanished. He prevented me from referring to him as my mate or bringing it up, but that doesn't imply that we are not bonded to each other.

“So… will you… will you reject me then?” I asked a question that had been troubling me ever since the first time I met him.

I believe it was the appropriate moment for him to decide the destiny we share.

If he were to reject me, it would be incredibly painful. The pain would be incredibly intense and shatter me completely, but I would pull myself together, embrace the rejection, and continue on my path as a forsaken individual with no one to show concern.

He appeared to be oblivious to my initial statement, so I restated it with increased volume.

“Tell me, will you reject me as your mate?” As I spoke, my voice faltered, and I sensed my heart pounding forcefully in my chest as he looked up at me. His expression was frigid, resembling ice, and his eyes became intensely fierce.

“Go away! Leave, now!” Instead of giving me a response, he sneered me giving an order, and I can’t help but to responded with a smile.

‘Does that mean… he doesn’t want to reject me either?’

He looked confused, with a crease between his eyebrows.

“Are you a crazy kind of swine of something? You ought not to have a smile on your face! You have such bad luck!” He cleared his throat, and at that moment three housemaids entered, informing him that his room was ready.

He agreed and went after them. I tried to follow him discreetly, but as soon as he reached the location where the garden security was positioned, he commanded them to escort me elsewhere.

“Slave, if you believe that I would rescue a filthy swine like you from going back to your low rank… well, you must be dreaming!” He scoffed at me using the mindlink and quickly cut it off before I had a chance to respond.

“Then what was his plan?”

SERENITY

"Assist me in conveying to the Lycan prince that I am not under any form of servitude. Please ask him to refrain from referring to me in such a derogatory manner," I complained as the guard casually placed me on the bed in my room, wearing a displeased expression.

"I really hope I'm not the person you're referring to!" He smirked and headed towards the door, ready to depart.

"Is anyone else here?" You witnessed him referring to me as a slave, and he also instructed you to escort me to my assigned work location. Go and correct him before he goes searching for me at the mines and tunnels where slaves work!"

I raised my voice when addressing him as he was near the door. My words caught him off guard, making him turn towards me with a bewildered and surprised expression.

However, the confusion seemed to have dissipated, and he let out a chuckle.

"Do you not believe that I was assisting you by bringing you to this location? The Lycan will only hunt you down to eliminate you, but it won't be able to locate you in the mines. It's fortunate that you're not enslaved!" He whispered, wiping his nose.

"Absolutely not," I exclaimed, and he looked surprised, and he narrowed his eyes in response as his mocking expression intensified.

"You seem to have a talent for humor. Quite ambitious to have such thoughts. You were fortunate that he spared your life in the garden, but it's important to remember that luck doesn't always endure. If you continue to associate with him, he may harm you in a very violent and gruesome manner," he gave a warning and then left, closing the door behind him.

"Perhaps I was quite the ambitious dreamer, but this marks the first occasion where I have placed such unwavering faith in my aspirations. No one was aware of our relationship, and Maximus prefers to keep it a secret as he is uncertain about accepting or rejecting me. It simply indicated a glimmer of hope, suggesting that one day I could warm his cold heart and win his affection. Even when this hope seemed so bleak, It would someday become reality. I hoped so."

The entire place was eerily quiet, as if it was devoid of any signs of life. I decided to recline on my bed and take a moment to relax. Vivien probably went to school, and the presence of the Lycans caused everyone, including my father, to overlook my existence.

I was unaware that I had dozed off until I awoke to find everything enveloped in darkness. I looked into the darkness and felt around until I found the light switch.

As soon as I switched on the light, my gaze immediately landed on the clock.

"What!" I was taken aback when I noticed that it was 11:35 p.m. I felt weighed down, and my eyes were wide open, indicating that I had slept for an extended period of time. Something I hadn't done since my life transformed.

I let out a tired yawn and stretched my body as I got out of bed. I quickly went to the bathroom and showered before grabbing a comfortable blue dress. I put it on and then made my way to the door.

I felt a bit confused as I tried to figure out what was going on. "Wow, I can't believe I managed to sleep undisturbed from the afternoon until now. How did that happen? I didn't prepare or present any food, and Vivien should have come back from school, but she didn't come to my room to request her meal, which I always provide for her when she comes home from school."

These occurrences were quite uncommon, and I could only speculate that they were a result of the Lycan's influence. Everyone was on their best behavior, aware that he would only be staying for one night.

I tried to open the door by turning the door knob, but it remained stubbornly closed. The door was securely fastened. I furrowed my brows in concern as I realized that I had forgotten to lock the door before falling asleep, indicating that someone had entered my room.

I glanced up at the cupboard, my usual spot for storing my keys, only to find it empty. I couldn't find any keys, and my door was locked, so it seemed like I wouldn't be able to leave.

Who is responsible for this?

I quietly spoke to myself as I experienced a sudden pang and the rumbling of hunger in my stomach. I instinctively continued to twist and knock on my door, but there was no response, and complete silence prevailed outside.

"I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request."

I cried in agony and exasperation as I made my way back to my bed.

As I was lying on the bed, feeling hopeless, heartbroken, and extremely annoyed, the door suddenly creaked open. Glancing at the door, I noticed Ophelia entering with a confident expression. She made sure to lock the door before approaching me.

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!" She smiled and took a seat in the chair across from me.

"Please return my key and vacate my room," I let out a low growl, and she burst into laughter as if I had just cracked a hilarious joke.

"We don't have to raise our voices; currently, all external sounds are blocked, so no one would hear us," she grinned mischievously, and I chuckled, glaring at her in frustration, which she seemed completely unconcerned about.

"I understand that he is your friend. I have knowledge of many intriguing aspects regarding both of you, therefore I will not permit either of you to approach me. I informed him of something that extinguished the small emotions he had developed for you, despite his previous efforts to find you. I was amazed by how quickly you were able to break through his tough exterior. Wow, that's really impressive!" Ophelia let out a sigh and chuckled as she observed my heartbreak at her words.

I attempted to refrain from shedding tears, but my efforts proved futile. I simply wanted to find out what she shared with Maximus. My partner was an unfeeling Lycan who treated everyone, including me, with cruelty.

"What did you say to him? I'm certain you have no clue as to why he was seeking me. Perhaps they wanted to harm me for my actions in the garden," I whispered with a tinge of sorrow.

"He wasn't bothered by whatever you did in the garden. It increased his curiosity about you, but now I'm certain that if he ever saw you, he would become extremely hostile." Her laughter filled me with a sense of unease.

"Sure, could you please grant us one final meeting to determine if he poses a threat to me? I'm confident he wants to convey a final message to me," I begged, but her angry expression made me realize that what I was asking for was unattainable.

"I won't ever do that. You'll be stuck in here until he departs tomorrow, and you know what? Your life would go back to the unhappy and pitiful state it was in. You won't find solace in the Lycan as you face the relentless torment and cruel mistreatment that awaits you for your transgression. Have you really forgotten about your role in the Luna's demise? You are a terrible person!" With a gentle voice and a crooked grin, she leaned in close to examine my expression.

"She nearly took my life. She was under the influence of a malevolent entity...and..." I defended, my gaze shifting towards the ground as a weight settled upon my heart. I experienced intense pain as I closed my eyes and relived the scene.

It was evident that my mother was under some kind of supernatural influence and posed a serious threat to my life. There was no other option for me but to defend myself. If it weren't for those unusual, powerful forces that took over me, I wouldn't have made it.

Ophelia chuckled mockingly and rose from the seat.

"Have a pleasant time during your stay in this room." She let out a light laugh and made her way towards the door. I noticed that she was supporting me.

"Now is the perfect moment to confront her and make our escape!" My inner voice echoed the same message as my intuition, but I attempted to leap out of bed immediately, only to discover that I was bound by invisible forces.

As I started to wrestle with my restraints, she shot me a mischievous glance.

"You'll need to wait until I depart and secure the door before you can leave. There's really no need to raise your voice. Nobody will hear you." She laughed and greeted me with a playful wink.

"You seem concerned that I might harm your large head! Why pin me if you are a scared, insecure person!" I expressed my frustration loudly, causing her to stop and face me completely.

"I must confess that I feel apprehensive, but not on your behalf. I'm only afraid of the entity that took your mother's life that evening because I'm aware that you are not responsible for her demise." Her final words echoed in my ears as she closed the door, leaving me in a state of shock and unable to utter a single word.

Ophelia was aware that I was also under the influence of a creature, much like how a demon had taken hold of my mother. She was aware of a certain piece of information my mother had shared with me regarding the demons.

What other information does Ophelia possess?

Who is she? Is it a demon? However, there was no clear indication that she was a demon! She possessed an innate werewolf nature. Oh no!

Right then, I experienced a sudden surge of liberation and eagerly jumped out of bed. I hurried towards the door, hoping to open it, but my efforts were in vain as it remained stubbornly shut.

I shouted and forcefully wedged the door shut, but my efforts were futile. At that moment, the sound of footsteps reached my ears. I paused as someone approached the door, hoping it wouldn't be Ophelia once more. With a mix of apprehension and anticipation, I refrained from turning the doorknob and patiently waited.

As soon as I heard his voice, I immediately recognized it as Maximus's, although there was a noticeable change in its tone it sounded calm and gentle.

"You could be sleeping at the moment. I can't understand why I bothered to leave my room and come here. I can understand if you're feeling upset and resentful towards me for my actions, particularly for instructing the guards to take you away as a slave. I understand that you are not obligated... I simply..." He took a momentary break, and I could hear his deep, labored breathing, as if his heart was beating faster.

"I really hope we can meet up before I leave tomorrow morning. I've been searching all over for you. I don't believe a single word of the nonsense that Luna told me. I'm uncertain about my desire to meet you again or what I would say if we were to cross paths once more. I don't dislike you, I am simply feeling extremely angry, hurt, and frustrated to the point where I might..." He had a slight interruption in his voice, and then he inhaled deeply.

"It's possible that we won't have a chance to see each other tomorrow before I depart. I regret that we will never have the opportunity to meet again. I would prefer to keep a significant distance from you." Those were the final words he uttered as his footsteps faded away.

"Maximus! Hold on! I am wide awake! Let's meet up right away! Oh, please stay!" I shouted and pounded on the door, but he remained oblivious to my pleas. Ophelia completely silenced any noise that came from my room. He was unable to hear me, and our meeting for tomorrow was canceled.

Chapter 10 Preview

It felt as though I was enchanted. Everything occurred rapidly, making it difficult for me to accept its reality rather than perceiving it as an illusion. I frowned deeply and collapsed onto the bed, feeling exhausted without understanding what had drained my energy. I couldn't figure out what was going on with me.

"What have we just accomplished?" Do you remember the sweet, heartfelt words we left outside her door? Why on earth did we decide to go to our room in the middle of the night to express our emotions to a girl we should despise and perhaps even harm? My wolf let out a loud howl from deep within me.

I covered my face with my hand, inhaling deeply to relax my nerves and convince myself that I didn't truly mean all the nonsense I uttered outside her door.

"Did we even realize that our true intention for visiting the mines was to search for her, disguising it as a casual inspection of the work progress?" Remember how annoyed we were throughout the day when she was nowhere to be found, even though we were the ones who asked her to leave? Since we were unable to sleep, we decided to get out of bed and...

"Please halt!" I let out a frustrated sigh, clenching my jaw as I pulled on my hair with force. It was incredible, and now I regret that it occurred. I really hoped that everything my wolf said was false, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

We both made foolish mistakes today, on our initial encounter with the young girl.

"How did a partner arrive in our werewolf kingdom?" I'm feeling a bit puzzled. Is love present wherever we go? If we were to visit the human world, would the moon goddess choose a human there to be our partner? That's absurd! My wolf cried out, filled with intense anger and frustration in his voice, but his couldn't match mine.

I was extremely angry and frustrated, feeling a strong dislike towards the moon goddess. In that moment, I wished for her to come down and confront me. I was determined to confront her with all my strength, even if I couldn't defeat her, I would leave a lasting mark on her.

What kind of joke is she making with my life?

I decided to distance myself from the Lycans in order to avoid any romantic entanglements. However, on the very day I arrived here, another individual unexpectedly entered my life, carrying the unmistakable scent of my potential partner.

I was incredibly angry when she entered the room in a frenzied manner. She also recognized that I was her partner and was behaving as if it was ordinary. I mean, she actually anticipated me to embrace her, embrace her, and claim her as my own...

It was quite bothersome, but the most difficult part was when she referred to me as her mate! Oh, even if she wasn't being truthful, I absolutely refuse to hear that word.

I strongly dislike that girl for entering my life and causing disruption. Her regal presence is overshadowed by the pain and mistreatment she endures.

However, I am not concerned; my only intention would be to leave this place swiftly. We won't meet, which would prevent the tragic outcome of me having to harm my partner, after she had deeply captivated my heart.

"Are we not deceiving ourselves?" My wolf seemed to express a mix of sadness and affection within me.

"Where can I find it?" How can I help you? I am telling the truth! I shouted, with a fierce tone.

"Her eyes are beautiful, but they have lost their natural sparkle and now carry a deep sense of sadness and exhaustion." She had experienced deep emotional pain caused by those closest to her.

We both sense it. There seems to be something off about her experience in this location, even though everyone is currently behaving innocently.

We are the only ones who can assist her in this situation, and it is crucial that we do so. He purred, and I could feel the genuine concern in his voice, a sentiment we both disliked and had vowed to keep at bay.

"You're on the verge of making the same error once more." This is how it all began for my other friend in the end, you know how it all concluded. I whispered, inhaling deeply as my heart pounded more intensely.

Everything my wolf stated was accurate, yet we were left with no alternative. We needed to keep our distance from my mate, as our affection for her would ultimately lead to her demise.

My life was in complete disarray. Many people disliked me for my harsh actions, my unrestrained killings, and my seemingly coldhearted nature. However, they were unaware of the immense hardships and cruelty that life had subjected me to. No one could truly comprehend the immense pain and anguish I felt when I had to harm my friends.

Love is a negative force that should never be present!

Dawn arrived quickly. I decided to shut my eyes and get some rest, hoping to avoid a sleepless night caused by Serenity.

I could tell that it turned out that way because I couldn't fall asleep. Every time I shut my eyes, her exquisite face would fill my mind, obscuring my thoughts. I would make an effort to refocus my attention and shift my thoughts to a different subject.

The challenge persisted until morning arrived and illuminated everything with the sun's rays streaming through the sheer curtain.

I left the bed in frustration and made my way to the bathroom, where I immersed myself in the bathtub.

There was a gentle knock on my door, causing my heart to skip a beat. I quickly hopped out of the tub and swiftly wrapped a towel around my waist, dashing out of the bathroom with water still trickling down my skin. I nearly lost my footing as I hurriedly made my way to answer the door.

"It seems like our friend has become aware of the conversation you had with her last night, as she has come to meet us for the final occasion!" I struggled to suppress my overwhelming excitement as my wolf let out a loud howl, my teeth tightly clenched to keep from squeaking.

I was absolutely certain it would be her, and the idea really made me lose my mind. I would have no problem apologizing to her. Of course, I would help her understand that I never harbored any ill feelings towards her.

I longed to experience the electric sensation of our touch once more. I could feel myself falling head over heels in love once more, and I was fully aware of it. Despite my reservations, I would make a final attempt to bring her joy before parting ways.

I hurriedly left the bathroom and quickly grabbed the door. I turned the knob, and the door swung open.

"Excuse me, your meal is prepared and ready for you." I listened to the gentle voice of a young woman who stood humbly before my door, trembling with fear.

I became overwhelmed with intense emotions, causing me to forcefully close the door in her face while expressing my displeasure through growls and heavy breathing.

"Our previous assumptions were incorrect!" The wolf let out a sorrowful sigh, causing me to clench my teeth in frustration as I felt my entire world collapse. I repeatedly hissed as I reluctantly dragged my feet.

"Perhaps she is anticipating our arrival in a certain location." My wolf chimed in, filling me with a glimmer of optimism. He was correct. Perhaps we can find a way to meet.

I quickly got ready and, upon reaching the top floor, the maids pointed me towards the dining room, where my meal was waiting for me. I quietly enjoyed my meal, but my neck seemed restless, constantly shifting positions. The object continued to rotate and turn in various directions, desperately seeking her presence.

All I desired was a quick look. I let out a soft sigh as I reluctantly scooped up the food. Everyone left out of fear, and I reveled in it, fueled by my disdain for those creatures who claimed to be werewolves.

As people walked through the dining room, I would eagerly look up, hoping to catch a glimpse of Serenity. However, none of them turned out to be her, which was disappointing. Everyone was terrified of me, and the only person who shouldn't fear me appeared to despise my company and made a promise to avoid me.

It was a bit strange because Serenity had been quite dependent all day yesterday. Feeling the genuine love and affection she had for me as her partner, it was hard to believe that she wouldn't see me before I departed.

I requested assistance, and she promptly arrived.

"Where can I find Serenity?" I inquired because I reached my limit. I desired her presence beside me as we shared a meal. Indeed, it may seem unconventional, but I couldn't resist the strong desire to be near her and gaze into her captivating eyes.

The maid informed me with a curtsy that she had been absent since the previous day. My heart sank as shock and irritation filled me.

Is she really being serious? This is simply unacceptable!

How did it go missing?

"Can you clarify your statement?" I almost yelled but succeeded in toning my voice down.

"We haven't laid eyes on her since yesterday afternoon," murmured the maid quietly. At that moment, it dawned on me what the woman, who I suppose was the Luna, had mentioned regarding Serenity.

I was starting to understand.

"Is Serenity a wolf with supernatural qualities?" I asked the maid, who seemed startled by my voice, which had taken on a low and intense tone as anger surged within me.

The Luna and the Alpha arrived before she had a chance to respond.

"I agree with you." Serenity, a demon wolf, is a member of our pack due to her mother's previous role as the Luna. She has fled from the group because of your actions. She was aware of your strong dislike for demons and understood that if you ever laid eyes on her again, you would take immediate action. It seemed like she thought you were aware of her real identity. The Alpha quietly explained, showing respect by bowing.

"We apologize for not informing you." I take full responsibility for concealing her identity, as I simply aimed to protect her from any potential consequences. I apologize. The alpha knelt down, and the luna followed suit, along with the maid. They all humbly knelt before me, pleading for my forgiveness for their failure to inform me about the true nature of my partner.

The Luna had subtly indicated to me, but I never took it seriously. As I listened to the Alpha speak, my heart was filled with sorrow. I felt incredibly distressed, to the point where I couldn't even find the words to express myself.

I found myself in a union with a supernatural being. The merciless beings who took the lives of my fellow Lycan comrades and nearly eradicated our entire race. Our numbers in the kingdom were greatly diminished by the destructive forces of the demons, leading us to adopt a strict policy of eliminating anyone we encountered.
